  • A lot of people in the UK have been getting their new i-Paces recently and I thought it would be useful to have beginners guide. I recommend watching this in conjunction with my hints and tips playlist
    shop.spreadshi... for merchandise to support the channel.
    Many thanks to Simon Houghton for his help on this one. Simon has a great blog at ipace.online and is @carcapture on twitter.

      Salesmen are normally not interested in helping you after you have parted with your cash. Mine seem to be better than the norm, although he's called Steve. However Steve ran through the intouch controls so quickly that he'd might as well not done it and I've been finding out for myself via excellent videos lick Gary's and others over this lockdown 3 period.

    To be able to charge to a desired % level overnight, say for example to 80%, I use a 32amp evse that allows me to select 6, 10, 15 or 32 amps. I then select the current that will give me the closest to the SOC I want by the morning.

    For prolonged battery life avoid using the high speed chargers and try to keep battery between 20% and 80%. Battery max capacity will reduce much quicker if you don't do as above.

    • @EVOwner
      @EVOwner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually when you charge to 100% in the iPace you are not actually going to charge the battery to its full capacity more like 90%. The engineers left a top and bottom buffer to help with this charge cycle . I note they have changed the advice in the manuals for later model years though to only charge to 80 percent unless needing to do a long journey. As the battery is cooled high speed charging also degrades a lot less than it would with say something like a first gen leaf.

    Do you know much about the air suspension? How do you lower the suspension, it only seems to work when the car is stopped or going very slowly. I have not noticed it go down at speed, and it ignores me when I try manually, even at 100km/hr

    • @EVOwner
      @EVOwner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think I mentioned in the video it will always return to normal height at speed. The lowest height is called access height and Jaguar only intend for that to be used when stationary. I'm told the aerodynamics are tuned for normal height.

    Rapid charging, and availability of chargers for those on the move, remains very important. The likes of Amazon makes purchases easy, yet some of these charge point supply sites make purchases unnecessarily complex or 'fiddly.' for the narrators criticism of Uk charge points. It is NOT a criticism of the I Pace but a criticism of supply networks for all electric cars. Tesla own their sites I believe. Perhaps Govt. is missing an opportunity here to build sites and benefit from the income? Too many suppliers of charge points with differing access protocols
    ( cards, downloading apps. etc.) I would like an EV but until the chaotic and slow roll out of Rapid charging points improves the nI will stick, for now, to hybrids that can be topped up from home and also negate "Range anxiety" caused by perceived lack of access to RAPID chargers. NOTE: I say 'Rapid' as opposed to the many slow chargers dotted about the country.

    Very useful video. I've just had a pod point installed but disappointed as it doesn't have a charge time option, so I can't set it to take advantage of Octopus Go. So looking at your guide I set the preferred charging time in the I-Pace for 00:30-04:30 but the car charges as soon as I plug the pod point in. Am I missing something?.

    • @EVOwner
      @EVOwner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preferred charging is a little more complex than it needs to be. Jaguar assume you always want to charge to 100% by your departure time. Preferred charging only works if you set a departure time. If there isn't enough time to charge your car to 100% in the charging window you have chosen then it will start immediately. One trick is to set the departure time several days in advance so that it will think it can charge over multiple preferred charging periods.

    • @Thereishope664
      @Thereishope664 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EVOwner Yes tried that and set the departure time to the 10th August and still the I-pace started charging straight away. My sure fire way of solving it is to replace the Podpoint RCBO in my fuse box with a 12.5 KW rated breaker with a timer. Available on Ebay for £46. Although to comply this should be carried out by a cert. electrician. But a doddle to instal.

    • @EVOwner
      @EVOwner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thereishope664 good plan. The iPace will power up the charger immediately on low current draw to check the state of the battery but it shouldn't actually start charging until the preferred time if the conditions are met.

    • @Thereishope664
      @Thereishope664 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EVOwner Thank you for persevering with me, I have managed to set it up now. It's a bit tricky and confusing for sure. Why Jaguar didn't incorporate a separate option for timed charging heaven only knows. Another point of note is that my I-pace being an early model is going to the agent in Brentwood to have the tacky Jaguar stickers replaced with the later embossed type. The existing decals are peeling at the edges. A terrible design and it may be worth mentioning that this is something that Jaguar will do FOC on your TH-cam channel.

    is the cheapest s model worth it with no options, or should i get a high spec 2018/19

    • @EVOwner
      @EVOwner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously the S has less tech features. Although with the 21 model it is a lot closer and does have the new infotainment system. You will though get exactly the same exemplary performance and handling (although the Optional Adaptive Air Suspension in the higher models makes a difference). A lot of people didn't use to like the 18inch wheels on the S but the new 19" standard wheels seem to me to be a good compromise. Having said all that there are likely to be some really good deals on MY20 ex demonstrators which may mean you can all the bells and whistles (although without the new infotainment) for less than a base 21 S model
