What is important to realize that, it was not a story for the Muslims at the time of Prophet Muhammad (saw), but if you go back to initial frames of video, it was a question asked to seek information about the PPL OF CAVE by one Jewish religious scholar, who actually wanted to prove Prophet (saw) wrong, but with revelation of Allah a completely chapter was revealed to answer scholars question, hence he got satisfactory answer...
It is pertinent to mention that, the story about ppl of cave was known to jews only of that time, so with revelation about it they were shocked about it, how Muhammad (saw) knew about it, as Allah informed him about it through Quran...
This story is also mention in Roman lecture as 'Seven Sleepers'

Quran has very briefly explained this story , this guy has explained this story in very detail manner, yes some people were slept in the cave and wake up after appx 300 or 400 yrs latter, that's quran says. It is possible that in some place time do no move as fast as other place.
