You know, I've heard lots and lots of floppy drive music before, but the stuff you do is just next level. It sounds perfectly in tune, perfectly timed, and the songs aren't just easy to recognize, they're impossible not to! Somehow you manage to make actual, proper music, that is enjoyable to listen to - using nothing but computer hardware. You're crazy, man. Lots and lots of respect.
Doing this stuff is easy once you have assembled the proper hardware. Look closer: all devices are driven by some simple microcontrollers (Arduinos? Raspberry Pis?). It does take a lot of effort and time to add a device to the machine, but once you have it and you're able to get it to generate a specific tune, it's easy and 100% repeatable. If a device ever needs re-calibrating, this process is also easy to automate. So, getting the perfect music out of the whole set is relatively easy, provided you have all the elements programmed already. This comment is not meant to depreciate what they did. Coming up with the idea was the first hard task, and programming every single element of it took weeks or maybe even months. I'm just saying that now, with all the hardware they have, after all the work years they put into it, creating a new video may be as easy as getting a MIDI file and passing it to the Floppotron.

You know, I've heard lots and lots of floppy drive music before, but the stuff you do is just next level. It sounds perfectly in tune, perfectly timed, and the songs aren't just easy to recognize, they're impossible not to! Somehow you manage to make actual, proper music, that is enjoyable to listen to - using nothing but computer hardware.
You're crazy, man.
Lots and lots of respect.
Doing this stuff is easy once you have assembled the proper hardware. Look closer: all devices are driven by some simple microcontrollers (Arduinos? Raspberry Pis?). It does take a lot of effort and time to add a device to the machine, but once you have it and you're able to get it to generate a specific tune, it's easy and 100% repeatable. If a device ever needs re-calibrating, this process is also easy to automate. So, getting the perfect music out of the whole set is relatively easy, provided you have all the elements programmed already.
This comment is not meant to depreciate what they did. Coming up with the idea was the first hard task, and programming every single element of it took weeks or maybe even months. I'm just saying that now, with all the hardware they have, after all the work years they put into it, creating a new video may be as easy as getting a MIDI file and passing it to the Floppotron.
