Just returned from long Viking Grand European Tour; almost 3 weeks. Best vacation ever. Here's a couple of tips. I got sick in the middle of the trip. We did not have time to seek medical care and hardly time to get cold meds. So my suggestion is to bring meds to plan for the possibililty of getting sick. And lucky for me a fellow passenger shared their antibionics too. Maybe get your doctor to prescribe what you might need too. Another tip but one I've never seen; bring a small portable fan to speed up drying the laundry you might do in the sink.
These are great tips! We had a major medication problem on board which we may do a blog post about in the future. Fortunately it worked out for the best. We had great ventilation in our cabin so we didn’t feel a fan was needed but that is not our usual experience so the fan is a great idea. Yes, Always bring cold medicines and/or talk to your doctor about medications you may need!
Of COURSE, we are booked into Veranda Suite 320 on the EIR long ship. 😑 Hope the one foot smaller won't ruin our stay. Also, how often (on average) do the ships actually dock side-by-side like that? Leaving in two days, now worried. Otherwise, these videos of yours have been a Godsend (just wanted to know the height under the bed....you answered that and so much more!). Thank you. Love these.
Not sure what your itinerary was but the rafting generally happens in larger ports like Vienna, Budapest, cologne so maybe 30-40% of the time. The locks also obscure your balcony times and they are more frequent. The fewer square feet are mostly noticeable when you use the desk, like when fixing hair or makeup for example. It’s hard to sit at the desk due to lack of space. Have fun! There are plenty of other spots to enjoy the ship.
@@LuxuryTravelDocs thank you for this prompt reply! One foot smaller doesn't seem like it'd be a lot but it'll be cozy no doubt. We are Rhine River cruising Amsterdam to Basal. Will offer (hopefully) helpful comments upon our return in 14 days (extended Amsterdam two days before, Italian Lakes two days after). Very excited and your videos are so very helpful.
Can't believe you would feel the need to download entertainment to watch there! My wife and I did the Mediterranean cruise with Viking and were so busy with excursions and exploring the ship that there was no need for much in cabin entertainment.
Honestly we feel Viking ocean cruises have a lot more to do than a river cruise. Great gym, spa, larger rooms and activities all day long if not in port. Thanks for pointing this out!
Thanks for the review. We just booked a veranda suite on the cities of light tour. Stocked frig and laundry service are sweet benefits along with the separate room. I’m sold
I'm going on the Viking Danube Waltz in a week and I'm very excited! We're going to be staying in a veranda stateroom for a week so it will be fine. Thanks for mentioning lack of wifi. I plan on bringing my Kindle & iPad and will download some entertainment & books.
How often are boats rafted together? I gotta be honest, this single trait might prevent me from taking the cruise. My wife and I would LOVE to have a veranda on a sunny evening moored up to enjoy the sunset, but if we're starring at another boat half the time we go to bed, this is a deal-breaker, almost a nightmare...
It depends how long you and the other ships are in port. We had some times that it was well into the evening and other times where it was just a couple of hours. Unfortunately there is no way to predict!
We just got back from this same cruise on July 4th! Different ship! Our first cruise of any kind celebrating our 50th Anniversary! Highly recommend! 5-stars!! I wouldn't worry too much about other boats docking next to you. Some days it's just for a few hours, you are so busy going on excursions, eating, etc. that you're hardly in your room! Even though I stayed back on a few excursions because of my recent recovery and PT from Achilles Tendon surgery, there were 3-4 places I could sit on the ship and either read, or take photos of the scenery. I could be alone or I could find some interesting people to talk to! The only negative was at times, the Wi-fi didn't work well, but we had planned ahead for extra cell data!! Also, you don't need to overpack!!
They are a transmitter that allows you to use your wireless headphones or bluetooth compatible hearing aids with the "whisper" tour devices Viking uses. This means using your headphones instead of the plastic disposable ones Viking gives you. Here is a link to the airfly pro on Amazon so you can read more about it. amzn.to/3QIO6di

Thanks for the review. The scenery is beautiful and it looks very comfortable
It was!
I really like the interior of the rooms, compact but still loads of rooms and simple design.
Viking definitely maximizes space!

Have fun! It’s a great stateroom!
Honestly your reviews of thia ship is impeccable and wow the rooms and the finishing looks luxurious
Thank you! We hope it helps future passengers!
The scenery is beautiful and it looks very comfortable ❤
It was a great experience!
This is one of the amazing crushing experience with amble amount of facilities 😮 The views are exemplary ❤ Great narration 👌👌
We truly enjoyed ourselves! Thank you for the compliment!
The rooms look very luxurious 😮
It was an awesome cabin!
Honestly, I could live without entertainment lol. But if the wifi is bad, well...that's bad 😢
Oh the magnetic hooks are a great tip! 👍
It was very frustrating! We swear by magnetic hooks on cruise ships. It’s one of our top tips!
Love your blogs, but it would be nice if you told us what month and year you were doing your travel thank you❤
Thanks and that is a great suggestion. That was May 2024.

Have fun! Hopefully the WiFi improves when starlink gets introduced in the future. We did the same with downloaded media!

What is an air fly. We’re going on our first river cruise and no nothing about them

We'll be in 328 on another longship in 2 weeks.
Well now you know what it will look like! Enjoy!
