I'm surprised at how crunchy the red algae is x And I looove Irish moss. I've had it dried. Also I'd like to learn to make crunchy seaweed. I've had it from a Chinese takeaway. It's delicious ☺🍽
That's so amazing that you can just pick it up and eat it straight from the beach! I don't think I'd risk that on the beach here! Might have added sewage flavour 😬

I eat the seaweed Dulse fairly regularly. I use it on salads and eggs. I wonder if Iceland uses the seaweed for fertilizer. I'm wondering if you were in a region during low tide. I assume that seaweed is growing in water.
At some point Eydís was taking locals with her to harvest seaweed. I don't think she does this anymore but I think it would be fun for someone who is knowledgeable in seaweed to explain it to people who have interest.
Atleast I'm not the only one that missed this . . . Another Great One -Should most definitely have an Agency, dont know hows the calendar that side either way 💯😊
Does Eydis recommend to harvest seaweed on your own? I moved to Iceland recently and since I'm a natural born forager, I obviously want to go pick some kelp for myself!
Yes, she does recommend harvesting on your own. She says that it is best to pick closest to the sea because people might have been stepping on the seaweed closer to the shore.
When I was in Iceland, a friend and I actually stayed with Eydis and her husband. And she actually took me to do the same but I really didn't like the seaweed.
Hi! Your videos are great. I’m looking into ways to immigrate to Iceland from the US but do not have a degree. I’ve heard it’s difficult without one, but I was wondering if it’s possible to get a visa as a firefighter, which I am right now. I was also thinking about a trade like construction, I’d even work as a farmer if I could. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I hope you have a great day :)
Yay for coming to Iceland. Yes, the rules are changing often because we are battling an outbreak of Delta variant. Right now, the rule is that vaccinated people and those with a certificate of antibodies need to show a negative test that is less than 72 hours old and your certification at the border. You don’t need to test again once in Iceland. Those who have ties to residents or live in the country need to also have a test upon arrival. If that is negative, they can travel around. Also, masks are necessary when you can’t keep a one meter distance. It’s possible that the rules will change. Best to keep checking covid.is, if you are not already.
Jewells! Omg I can’t believe your “guest” allowed you to eat the seaweed without at least rinsing it a little with a bottle of water or something. Did anyone catch when the lady said she usually “washes it first” because of (bugs) that could be in it?? I’d totally be like “let’s eat this together” kind of vibe. Jewells, you’re a champ. Thanks for biting the bullet for us but be careful. I literally cringed when I saw you continue to munch on more seaweed and the look on the lady’s face as you did it. If you have gastrointestinal symptoms a couple weeks from now, get your stool tested. I travel a lot and experience all types of nature and enjoy organic food but there are microscopic consequences that aren’t usually apparent until you get really sick, so just be mindful! That’s all! ;)
