    When I tell my friends, I love watching a TH-cam channel about a guy going around the world, eating fruit they don’t get it. It’s your passion and interest in what you enjoy that makes this channel so much fun to watch.

    • @MermaidMakes
      @MermaidMakes 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Why don’t they get it?!? It’s completely understandable. Watching people’s passions and interests is the only thing keeping me coming back to YT.

    • @dbird2997

      @@MermaidMakes watching a guy travel around and eat fruit is still pretty niche when it comes to foodie culture. My friends totally understand cooking shows, but someone describing the taste of a sapodilla, not so much.

      @jamescanjuggle 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      sometimes i tell friends its like that show, best ever food review show, but more personable, you can actually hear your thoughts when the hosts speaking and you get to just unwind listening to someone talk about cool and interesting fruits.

      Here's how I dscribe the channel and its host, mebbe if you told your friends this, they'd get it:
      "So, this guy goes around the world, tasting all the different exotic fruits. That's his _hobby!_ His day job is as a contortionist, sword swallower, fire-eater, and circus performer, who was classically trained in China. Talk about 'The Most Interesting Man in the World!'"

    Mangosteen is possibly my favourite fruit, helped by a British supermarket 20 years ago mistaking the price per fruit for the price per kilo. My favourite genus for fruit has to be Prunus, just so many classics.

    It's wild that so many of your favorite fruits are still so rare that they aren't even sold at local markets. There are so many interesting fruits out there and it's a shame we probably get less than 20 available regularly at US supermarkets.

    I think this is the same fruit we call "rata goraka" in Sri Lanka, also pretty rare there too, but you can find them in markets in season.
    We also eat the inner flesh of "Goraka" (Garcinia cambogia) and use the dried outer flesh as a spice.

    Welp, being related to mangosteen already gives high hopes that it's tasty. I've always found that mangosteen sort of had a bit of a citrusy note in the flavor aside from being incredibly sweet and tasty so it doesn't surprise me that much to find out another relative of it tastes even more citrusy.

    I wonder if you can help identify a fruit I had in Cambodia that grew in the mountains. It was somewhat similar in flavour to that inner fruit and was very fibrous and had very high latex content. It also had smooth skin but didn't have the meaty part and they grew on bunches of think branching twigs, not individual fruit. About the size of a golf ball but more elongated. It looked about the same colour but they say it grows on really tall trees. I loved it when I could get it but I haven't had it in nearly 20 years now. I wonder if it is related to that genus as it has similarities to the centre of this fruit although it has a single seed in it.

      hmmmm.... It may be a "Burmese grape" or another kind of Baccaurea. Some species look like garcinias, they are latexy, more fibrous, grow in bunches, grow in Cambodia. Various sizes and shapes. I have videos here of a few species: weirdexplorer.com/scientificname

    You may have a favorite genus of fruits, but have you ever asked yourself, if you could only ever have any and every member of one genus of plants, forever, on an otherwise deserted island, what it would be? Graminias have bamboo for shelter, grain, and fodder, but your vegan, so fodder is maybe irrelevant. Solanums have fruit, veggies, potatoes,... But you'd need a cave. It's a fun thought practice.
