DLP rainbow effect is only noticable when u move your eyes fast too, the negatives of DLP still beat any LCd projection

I used to have a projector setup, with a home-made 7' screen. Used it for years, but eventually went back to a large TV because it's more convenient to use in day to day life, (projectors always need a darker room for best viewing experience).

I hope the RGB in the PC isn't brighter than the projector :D
I used to own a giant rear projection TV. I really get the point of the more cinematic experience. Loved that thing, although it was only SD, had to be calibrated on a nearly daily basis and consumed a hell lot of electricity.

We had the same problem when I got my Epson projector. The only wall in the basement we could project on has a giant electronic thermostat right in the middle. We ended up going to the fabric store and bought what they call Blackout fabric...to put behind curtains to block the light. And it has a side that has a bit of a shiny finish that reflect perfectly for projectors. For a big roll we only paid like 20$ and managed to get 120 inches of screen. Colors are very vibrant and black are very dark. We hung it just a few inches in front of the wall to clear the thermostat and it works very well.

Hey thank you so much for this detailed review i truly enjoyed it! I have a small question if you dont mind, can you notice any motion blur when there is a fast movement in game or movies in your projector? Id love to know because im noticing some motion blur on my Optoma GT1080Darbee which i love but wish they added frame interpolation to reduce the motion blur. Please let me know thanks!

i feel like for certain games like EFT you can take use of the NVIDIA filters to find a color profile that best fits the projector when playing EFT. All can be done through GeForce Experience. It actually makes the game look completely different when done the right way due to games loving grey filters.

A budget pico DLP projectors typically has over 15- 120hz native 480p to 1080p max. LCDs has at least 60hz. It would be nice to have a split screen feature to play with your friends with that.

I use to play on 127" but I sat like 8ft away, it's super cool having such a big view but playing fps games is harder, if you play on a regular cpu screen everything is in your peripheral view so you'll do better, but if your about racing I doubt it'd be a problem, plus you want a dark room when playing projector

Nice video, thank you Dawid! I also have a BenQ projector (W1070) and I actually use it with a steam link. Ethernet plugged, it works wonderfully with a generic wireless Xbox 360 adapter. And the main problem is gone: just play with a controller. Off course, it limits it to the games which are designed for it: I'm currently playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, and I'm really enjoying it more than on my 1440p 144hz screen..! Escape from Tarkov and PUBG are not meant to be played on such a big screen IMHO though.

I game in my theater occasionally, 135" screen and full surround(dual 18" sub woofers) but I find the only games that are comfortable are those with a controller or sim setup(wheel and seat). Trying to use a KB and mouse is uncomfortable even in a recliner. I'm thinking of moving the Simulator to my gaming room and adding a screen mount anyway, the screen is just too big.
But with a projector you gain the benefit of watching movies so it's a 2 for 1!

Now I’ll save someone’s nerves, because initially I was almost so worried myself.
To enable 1080p/120Hz, 4k(inferior)/60Hz, you need 2 things:
    1) hdmi 2.0, if connected to the PC, make sure that the video card has a 2.0 connector or higher.
    2) when connecting the projector via the remote control, in the additional item “hdmi settings” -> HDMI EDID -> and for both hdmi you need to select IMPROVED(EXTENDED) and NOT STANDARD(DEFAULT) (in short, STANDARD = HDMI 1.4, IMPROVED = HDMI 2.0)

I used to run a projector years ago, I had one in my living room from like 06 to 14 or so. 105 inches of gaming sexiness. Actually the Xbox 360 gave the best experience and then PS3, the PC was actually the worst for some reason. Halo 3, Gears 2, PlayStation Move shooters with the gun like Time Crisis 4, Killzone 3, Dead Space Extraction were amazing for back them! The only thing better is VR. That’s way better than a projector.
I used a king sized white sheet for a screen 😆

That rainbow effect is only present in low end DLP projectors. High end DLP projectors use a separate DLP chip for each aspect of the RGB color mix. Low end projectors use one chip and something called a color wheel. As an AV professional I never recommend a 1 chip DLP projector. There is zero chance you get the advertised life out of this projector. Depending on how much you play I expect image degradation after 3-5 years.

Speakers over Bluetooth, for gaming? Seems like latency compensation would be difficult-to-impossible in real-time situations like FPS gameplay. I know that playing rhythm games on my phone absolutely does not work over BT because the hit sounds come late compared to the music, which throws off the whole feel of the game.

I used to have a projector and a 106" screen between 2007 and 2009 but back then 1080p cost at least €5000 so I got a 720p projector and even at €1300 it was still expensive. It was quite epic to play Mass Effect 1 on it but the 720p was not really enough resolution for 106" not to mention I had to keep the room constantly dark. And the bulb only lasted about 2500 hours and a new one cost €300.

Sounds like me back in the day. I was really the only one I knew who was using projectors instead of TVs. Had an Optoma HD71 720p that cost 1300 bucks, bulbs were super pricey, I went through 3. It's still kicking! I use it for my nintendo switch in the bedroom. In my living room I have an Optoma UHD50 that is 4k, and in 2020 cost.... 1300 dollars! I haven't tried the PC out on it but the switch and ps5 look incredible on it.

@@Widderic I use an Ultra Short Throw 1080p laser projector these days and it is superior to my old one in every single way such as much longer life of the laser, brighter, easier to place etc and yet I’m thinking I should have just gotten a big TV instead even if it would have been a bit smaller. No matter what I do I can’t seem to get the picture perfect. It is always wavy. I don’t remember that being such a problem with my old one. I think it is because of the Ultra Short Throw nature of it being so close and below instead of hanging down from the roof far away like a traditional projector.

    • @Widderic
      @Widderic ปีที่แล้ว

@@wertywerrtyson5529 It certainly is a temperamental hobby filled with troubleshooting and in the end you just want to give up and buy an expensive OLED. But if you want that authentic movie theatre experience it's still the way to go. You need a dope 5.1 surround system to compliment it. The real money you'll drop isn't lumens or resolution, it's the contrast ratio for the whites and blacks. The only time I notice my set up looking like crap is when there are dark scenes... when it fades or transitions you can see the topographic map like shades of blackness. Oh well, I aint rich enough for a nice OLED! I have always wanted to try those laser projectors though.

@@Widderic I thought moving to a house from an apartment would mean I don’t have to worry about noise complaints so I bought a subwoofer and was ready to have some nice sound again but with the wife and kids and everything I just don’t use it barely at all. My older daughter uses the projector a lot more than me. I find myself using the old 52” TV from 2008 in the living room 90% of the time watching some Netflix show with the wife even though I have an OLED in my office/game room (although a fairly small one since I have crammed in my computer desk and all my games in that fairly small room) and the projector in the guest room. Maybe as the kids get older I have more time to enjoy movies and such. Having a 6 year old and a 9 months old means they require a lot of attention especially the 9 months old. The only time I have is when she takes her nap and then I can’t make too much noise.

Paper thin walls here in this apartment complex so if I turn that woofer passed 10 percent the cops are gonna come knocking. Very excited to buy a house next year.

Man the projector tells me you have a dust problem in the air. You need a Billionaire air purifier. Or any other brand, that doesn't need filter swaps, just cleans.

Thanks for the video, David. I’ve just picked up this projector, and even though it’s very good overall, I still have a few issues to iron out before it’s fully optimized. I was wondering how you set this projector up in your display settings.
    1. When I enable HDR in Windows display settings, the games become way too bright lacking any shadow depth. The refresh rate also defaults to 30hz (in Windows) and can’t be changed.
    2. How does one make sure that the 120hz mode is enabled when gaming on this projector? I haven’t seen that number anywhere in my Windows settings yet.

It's the Golf GTI of gaming...so it has electrical gremlins out the wazoo, requires specialty expensive tools from Germany to do basic maintenance on, and has a cult following of vape-pen using hipsters?
    ...I could see that.

If this is an "Ultimate gamin setup" someone needs to raise their standards.
The Micca RB42 speakers are 83dB 1W/1M with a 4-8 ohm impedance and want 15 - 100 watts - so really hard to drive. The SMSL AD 18 looks like 80 watts into 4 ohms - and the manual doesn't even state output into 8 ohms. Danger! Danger Will Robinson! This is audio system is nothing close to a Gulf GTI - maybe a Chevy Spark? A pair of KRK Classic 5 powered monitors would likely sound much better for only a little more money.
