That was more wholesome than I thought it would be

I played Morrowind recently, and I played as a (somewhat paradoxical) Telvanni mage who also collected the title of Arch-Mage from the Imperial's "Guild" and freed a lot of slaves. In my RP of it, upon discovering that the bracers used are constant effect drain magicka, Mivul was disgusted at the waste of Constant-Effect Enchantment and for keeping the expression of magic suppressed. Taking the Telvanni "might-makes-right" idea, Mivul found that bandits who couldn't square up would evaporate before him, and slaves would be freed to leave (mostly from how dangerous Morrowind is, from its landscape and fauna to its mer). The Twin Lamps and the Bal Molagmer were interesting concepts, but the skill books were secondary to trying to let anyone who had the spark be able to bring themselves to greater heights of magicka and its potential.

Damn, I never thought that Morrowind did this. Once I play Skyrim again I am getting these followers. Question is, are they good followers?

What, slavery? There is a certain irony that Morrowind makes a big fuss about why it's "wrong" to enslave the dead through necromancy but then enslave the living. I guess that they figure that one should do as much work, willing or no, when alive and then RIP.

While one has the option of purchasing in Tel Aruhn and other places enslaved people beyond just Khajiit or Argonians, they are not very useful in terms of combat stats. Beyond that, trying to use them for storing items without modding is also annoying. With these limitations, the comparison to the reward you can claim from the rare book-seller Jobasha in Vivec's Foreign Waistworks in skill books is an easy choice.
As for whether mods that improve the interaction and abilities of in-game enslaved people are desirable? There is a point where mods that elaborate this aspect of Dunmer society might engender questions about the people behind the art that is the mod. However, making a mod that enables paying for an enslaved person, paying them a wage, and equipping them with gear to aid you in your quest would be complicated but rewarding.

I thought slaves were outlawed by the early 4th era. I get that the great house of op mages (i know what the name is I just can't never spell it right). I mean they did that in the alliance wars.

Majority of slavery is outlawed , some are still holding on

The alliance wars? That was the one between the AD, Ebonheart pact, and Daggerfall Covenant, right?

@@TheRogue_Paladin im not surprised by that. Just outside that guide to the empire book. I've never seen an npc talk about the ban tho.

@@lonelypancake5979 yes. Now that I think about it some of the houses kept all their slaves except the lizards (tho many just set free all of their slaves) the great house of mages (ill try to spell it) televein. Didnt join in so they still had the lizards because they didn't join in on the pact.

King Helseth did outlaw slavery in Morrowind, yes, but Telvanni didn't much care. Helseth already had such little real power, and the Red Year would give the Great Houses more important things to focus on, that nobody had the time to really police the slavery ban.

The way Xelzaz explains it sounds like a typical corporate job. What is Remiel on about?

I always view Remi as that cringe liberal meta being pushed into Skyrim. "Uhhh racism uhhh slaves uhhh injustice" girl it's tamriel ALL the races are racist. Half the provinces had slaves in the past.
I just see her as someone protruding their sjw liberal views into the Skyrim world. While I am very much a liberal myself, I play Skyrim to get away from real life.

@@TheRogue_Paladin No thank you. Just stating my opinion. I'm not saying it's a bad mod. They did an excellent job making her and she works better than vanilla companions/followers. I was just saying I'm not the biggest fan of some of her discourse.

@@Aldhardt in-setting, I don't think many people were familiar with Dunmeri practices for capturing Khajiit, Argonians, or (among the Telvanni) anyone into servitude without seeing it first-hand in Vvardenfell or the rest of Morrowind. Times change, but it seems some Dunmer are stubborn and/or powerful. It could be viewed as commentary on how the past is judged (like checking what the Dwemer did to the Falmer) and how culture, even the negatives, can be more powerful than war and exile.
