I'm a 74 year old guy from the U.S.A. who has walked several caminos and I'm really looking forward to hiking the Via Transilvanica next summer - I already have my plane tickets. I'll start in Putna and go as far as I get in about 7 weeks. Romania will be a fascinating place to explore on foot.
Howie! Thanks for sharing and hopefully many will get inspired by your trip! Let’s keep in contact and we can share experiences, making it easier for others :) big hug for you
I ended up walking about 850 kilometers. It was pretty wonderful. But while food is quite inexpensive (and plentiful!), the lodging prices have increased quite a bit. Also, be sure to learn at least some basic Romanian.
How cool is that!! I believe it's quite an alternative to US thru hikes without travelling so far away from Europe! I'll get a closer look into it, thanks a lot for a cool video! Cheers!
Another fan from Romania, who was on the Camino for the first time this year and I'm already scheduling another one for next year. If you arrive in Romania, what I want from you is a big hug
Romania / Transsilvania is a very beautiful country. If have been there in 2004 and I made the experience that if you speak Italian you can also talk to Romanians very easily. On the one hand the languages are very similar and on the other hand Romanians watch many Italian films on tv and thus know the language. Thanks for the video! Multumesc!
We didn't go yet. We are from Romania & just finished our first Camino this October. But Via Transilvanica is on our list. What we can tell you for sure is that you shouldn't expect for the locals to know English. It's mostly villages & elderly people that are hosting and they most of the time don't know English.
Joe, how are you? Via Francigena is a real adventure, let's hope I will have enough time to walk it in 2024... Next year I'm planing Camino for apr/may/jun and then Japan (88 temples).... fingers crossed, hugs
Thanks so much for your video! We are trying to plan an 8 day hike on the Via Transilvanica. Do you know if there are any luggage porter services like there are in many other countries? Thanks!
Thanks! I have starting contacting individual accommodations. Some will take your luggage to your next stop. I am going to try to piece it together that way. I will let you know if I'm successful
P.s. if you ever come to Romania to do this Camino & need accomodation in Bucharest (the capital) let us know (write to us on Yoolia's Pack - Fb or Insta) & we will gladly help! Your videos helped us a lot in preparing for our first Camino de Santiago. We would like to help also!

Also I found then dogs who are protecting the sheep to be scarier than the bears (which I did see), but I was never bitten.
This Via Transilvania route is such a cool place to discover
It is 🥰 let us know if you do it!!
