- In this video I talk about my personal top 10 hardest missions in my favourite video game of all time. As my favourite game of all time has a bit of a reputation for being a difficult game in places for many people. I thought I would share the ten missions I found difficult when I first played this game or hell even missions I still find tricky today. Please be a little bit mindful about the missions I have picked as these are missions I personally found tricky. This is going to be my final upload of 2022 as I am going to New York City for a holiday this Christmas. So you could say this is my Christmas special for 2022.
Jak II is an open world platform third-person shooter action-adventure video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. It is the second game of the Jak and Daxter series and is the sequel to Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. It was followed by Jak 3 a year later.
The game features new weapons and devices, new playable areas, and a storyline that picks up after the events of The Precursor Legacy. The player takes on the dual role of protagonists Jak and Daxter.
Jak II received critical acclaim upon release. Critics applauded the game for being very polished in nearly every department, with many agreeing it was one of the best PlayStation 2 games released at the time. Some criticism, however, was directed at the checkpoint systems, darker tone, and high difficulty.

The whole issue with Drill Platform is the fact that every time you shoot one of the KG they bounce away in a seemingly random direction making it nearly impossible to get multiple shots in to kill one quickly.
I too had an issue with that when I was 8 years old. Then I grew up. Its not that hard

"Quickly" is where you mess up. It's where everyone messes up. Quit trying to speed run the game and it won't kick your ass
Fun Fact, in the water slums mission, if you have dark jak ready, you can use the dark bomb right into the water and destroy the turret, trivializing the mission.

This only works in the normal mode. It does not work in Hero mode, which I actually found very cool LOL cuz that means it wasn't a glitch. They intentionally allowed you to do that in the normal mode, to get you to use Dark Jak, but in Hero mode they wanted to take the "easy way" away to make it harder 💯

all of the racing missions were hell for me because there's so many things in your way!
I still remember that one mission where you have to drive while a bunch of missiles are chasing you down the *crowded city*
They still give me trouble today and I’m in my 20s 😂
#3 is comically easy for me nowadays due to simple punch through spam
the 3 is boring as fuck, to short, too easy, sadly.
Racing missions, slum and the one with 4 spiderbots in the city were the hardest when I was young.
Ugh the spiderbot mission was brutal!

I agree with some of your choices for hardest missions. However, I guess it’s just me but the more I play this game, the more I believe it’s just a difficult game, not a hard game.
The 40 Krimson Guards at the Drill Platform imo is still pretty BS on Hero Mode, but it’s a miracle that there’s a checkpoint after you beat them.I’m one of the lucky few who managed to overcome this obstacle.
I still have yet to beat this mission on hero mode. I doubt it will ever happen but congrats on beating it yourself
So with the Erol race through the city. If you manage to somehow pull a decent way ahead of him, he'll do even more cheating via the map where you can see him literally move through solid objects to rubberband himself to you

Mate, this was essentially what I remember from my childhood, and I still endure this masochistic drama to this day. Jak 2 is one of the most difficult games ever on the PS2, and yet I will still defend it as the best game in the trilogy. I love it

Destroy Ship at Drill Platform on Hero Mode is absolutely insane. Took me about 10 tries to beat it.
Don't let the Turret overheat...it's literally one of the easiest missions on hero mode....

On hero mode my list of hardest missions 1st, 2nd & 4th is identical to yours, although my younger self definitely would swap your pick for the 3rd hardest mission in the slums with the "escort mission of the 3 stooges" in the sewers, since my teenage patience really left me frustrated while appreciating Sig that much more for not being utterly useless.
Your 3rd pick within the water slums could still be cheesed with the Square-button strat if timed correctly on both regular and hero mode, since the enemy AI forgoes shooting their guns in close range to use their slow-but-bullshit electrical attack...😑
Also, I remember being frustrated by the lack of logic in certain missions like the mission of escorting 'kid Jak' trough the city on foot instead of just sticking with the vehicle from the hideout to the lab...made me never want to be a parent with a kid running off to his own damn doom like that😂

Destroy ship at Drill Platform made me toss my controller in anger in my last playthrough.
Not a bad list! I do share the same sentiments for some missions, drill platform i dont at all and beat it on hero mode, played this game ever since 05' and did lots of speedrun learning. Best time is 1 hour 59 minutes if curious.
But even without speedrun tech some of the missions can be wacky. Erol 1 can be a wreck if your constantly speeding, gotta slow down at points becasue the AI will rubberband erol to 1st one way or another. Another one is the pumping station, reason why its wacky is the metal heads there are fairly strong for early game. And 3rd is factory excluding krew. Factory had a lot of angles from the guards that were tough to spot first playing through, with normal jetboard techs there isnt much to exploit to get by, but there were options.
A solid list! Would be curious to see a Jak X hardest levels video!
The Racing with Errol Mission is really hard and frustrating. I had to restart the mission many times until I beat the mission, which I did.
The Eco Shipment mission in Jak 3 where you have to drive that hover car while missiles are chasing you is really hard for me. The Onin’s challenge, and the Whack a Metal head mini missions always stop me in Jak 2

I am doing my 5th run on this game right now, and for the first time i felt easy, almost first try all mission.
I did fine on the Drill Platform mission on Normal. On Hero mode, it took so many attempts to finally beat it!
Played through on opengoal recently. I oneshot the missions i found most impossible and struggled with the ones i bareky remembered because of their ease xD, sacred site part 1 i had to take a break the 4x2 purple shooters just...ruined me.
The krew boss fight was nightmarish too, even though i know its easy! The rescue 5 freedom challenged lurkers was hard too, theyd pop out of the vehicles and fall into the water
It’s crazy that I beat this game as an 8 year old. I’m pretty sure I can easily beat it now, but man was it a challenge for a kid
The fact you managed to beat this game as a kid is pretty impressive. I never would of beaten this game as a kid.
I myself have not beaten the game fully, but I have some levels that I found hard. One was escorting rebels the new safe houses without any of them dying another was the water slums the Crimson Fortress just a name a few
I love this Game and how it told its Story, but it is very difficult still to this day. It turns 20 this year!!!
for me, it's still escorting those three useless morons, even if the prize is the peacemaker, it's the fact that Jak has to protect them and if at any point they accidently get shot because there are metal heads everywhere, they end up shooting Jak. the amount of times i had to restart because of that mission. currently playing through the game again and am dreading it
I think the most insulting is the cutscene in the middle of it. That was supposed to be a checkpoint, but they failed to program it in.

I'd say this right for my most hated missions. The final boss usually doesn't give me too much trouble because I use a lot of roll jumps to dodge attacks. If I recall, I usually suffer most in the final phase. I'm also not a big fan of any racing missions since I suck at racing games in general. I always dread doing anything racing related.

It's for sure your list but I definitely think #8 should be definitely higher, maybe 4. And I definitely believe the metal head wack a mole game daxter has to do is a great replacement for #3 stripmine jet board. Imo that mission was fun and just jet board related. After beating the challenge for the orbs it feels so much easier. #1 is definitely correct though, my god does that misson make my spine itch
Yeah, the drill platform is fine... on normal mode, in Hero mode I find it borderline impossible.
On Vita, your #1 is a little easier because you can use the touchscreen, still hard AF tho. I think the jetboard one at #2 was harder tho because of the controls
I never finished this game I remember never being able to beat one where you are being blasted the entire way don’t remember if it was a race or just a checkpoint thing maybe a delivery
I ran into a weird choke-point in my first ever Jak II playthrough.
The mission where you meet Bruter (the Lurker) and/or destroying the white Hellcat Cruisers. They were both available at the same time, and I spent more than one day going between them, and failing them repeatedly.
My only excuses are; I was young, and both missions automatically p***ed off the KG, which I didn't know how to deal with apart from shooting at them.
I got through in the end, and finished the game. The last time I remember playing this was giving up after failing the racing mission several times. I need to boot up my PS5 and see if I can play this again, especially after seeing Powercell Zekes' old video on it (which made me cringe a bit at the gameplay on this video :P).

I would also add the rescuing the lurkers mission somewhere. On my first play, this mission just made me rage quit. Because you have to be at a precise location to free them and Daxter stinks at aiming the gun for you when you’re on a vehicle! And as soon as you fire, all of the guards start coming for you and shooting you down. You just get so impatient for the lurkers to hurry and get on your vehicle already! Cause you’re being ambushed and the lurkers are too retarded to know how and when to jump on, they sometimes just run in place and refuse to get on. And when you drop them off you have to hurry and make sure the guards don’t kill you as you stop and pray that you can time it just right for the hiding against the wall trick or else they still do this. And just rinse and repeat this over and over. And if you fail? Do you start back when you saved the last lurker? NOPE! You have to start all over again!
I love how unanimously the Drill Platform mission on Hero Mode difficultly is recognized as the hardest mission. Because it is 🤣 and hero mode is really what makes it so.
In hero mode, you lost 2 hit points per shot, so you only have FOUR lives rather than 8. Also, it takes them MORE hits to die. And each shot you hit on them makes them fly, so you can't really create a rhythm for it. Also, you can get hit from BEHIND. Meaning you can never focus on one area. It becomes ridiculous 😫
I see you rely on the "keep jumping and spin-shooting all the time" technique then you should watch the video titled "Jak II's Hidden Depth" (I can't give you a link because TH-cam burns every comment which contains any link so you have to look it up yourself.) 😉
You think Erol is bad? For precursor orb challenge they have that same race but you have to finish it in less than 2 minutes and 7 seconds to get the gold medal. Easily the hardest challenge in the game to get the Platinum trophy.
Ironically Kor was my lest favorite boss fight in the jak series and I found him the easiest boss in Jak 2.
Whilst I can beat “Destroy Ship At Drill Platform” on normal mode consistently with barely any issue, from personal experience I truly cannot say the same for Hero Mode (mainly the first section where you have to take out the 40 flying guards, rest of it isn’t too bad imo). Also can’t believe it’s now been almost 20 and a half years since Jak 2 came out (I was 5 and half back then)
I gotta break your balls on the dock mission man. You gotta at least beat it once the right way… Fire fight baby!! It’s a lot harder but it’s possible and so rewarding when you finally get it.

Learn the hover glitch and you'll never struggle with the drill platform hero mode again!
The final boss is actually very easy . You can transform into dark Jak. Number 2 . Quickly equip a gun and it doesn't cancel your dark form. And at the final stage go all out with the peacemaker . And the waterslum just punch your way and most of the time you barely take any damage
My challenging levels are the escort level in the sewers, the ambush in the water slums and the tank chase level sorry I don’t know the names of the level that is how I can describe them the best I can
I used the jet board to run away from the boss
Uncommon opinion but me personally hate all of the driving missions, also because they are very boring. For example destroying krimson ships, destroying the giant krimson robots. However the ring mission and also the mission where you have to throw the balls into the holes are easy for me.
I have played the half of the game... and never saw these missons accepted the 10#.... (now i am afraid HELP)

What in the hell was naughty dog smoking when they made these missions?
I can get that they wanted to pat out the game or give gamers a challenge like ninja gaiden black, but while that game is rooted in difficult to master history this game previously had a prequel that a balanced difficulty level making the overall experience fun from beginning to end.

Edit: Just finished watching the top 2...smh literally 3 of the easiest missions are your top 3...you know you can jump off of the hover board for #2 right? And for number one the trick is to only fire the turret when you are on the enemy. The turret shoots SIGNIFICANTLY slower when it it overheats.
What missions do you consider the 3 hardest in the game? Probably ones other people consider to be easy. If you don't want to come off as annoying, I would take more consideration into the words you use before you write them.
