Really great free PDF on the scales you need for jazz in one go like I've not seen before from his site. Its easy get confused over diminished scales and diminished seventh Chords (not half diminished) - could be my number one goto trumpet guy
Thanks Jeff for being so understanding of us trpt players trying to improve themselves. You're easy to understand in a cool way, like jazz is cool to listen to. Plus the pdf's are gold.
would I be correct in saying that you could use the half/ whole step scale over a normal dominant 7 chord or does it have to be one with a b9- because i learned that you could use it over both, great lesson btw sir !!
Thanks! If the dominant chord you want to use it over is not altered (b9, #9) you can still use the half whole diminished scale, although, it will sound a little more “outside”.
So if 4 of the half whole half scales are the same and 4 of the whole half whole scales are the same, are the chord progressions within them the same? If so, this an incredibly amazing short cut when learning jazz relating to these scales.
...but do the chord progressions change on each particilar scale? In other words, on an improvisational level, If someone is playing a C diminshed half whole half chord progression can I play Eb diminished half whole half chord progressions without the jam sounding clearly off?
Excellent thanks just learnt so much so fast!
Great to hear! Thank you for checking it out.
As a guitarist I find horn players are the best teachers ... and you are awesome, thanks!
Thank you for the kind words! I really do appreciate it.
I agree with you.👍

Thank you for the kind words Chuck! I'm trying to present the material in a way that made sense to me when I learned it.
I dont know why you and your contemporaries on youtube arent getting more likes and views. This is some great knowledge for all musicians.
Thank you!
My channels growth is more like the tortoise, not the hare! Haha!
U deserve way more subs.Great channel for all trumpet players.

Cool! You're the first person I've come across that actually makes jazz easy to understand. 80)
Glad to hear that David!

Nice sound 😎
Thank you 😋
Jeff can you recommend a very basic music theory book for us newbies?
Yes! The Mark Levine Jazz Theory Book. It is the absolute best! I'll be doing a short video of it sometime this summer.

Yes! It's like you are learning 24 scales but only practicing 3! So to speak.
(Note: My previous question is the same for the third set of 4 scales)

Yes! Because, it is the "same" scale. Or, uses the same notes rather.
How do I get in touch with youSir
