I hear the song i can see my grandma standing in the doorway smiling when i drive up to visit her, grandpa with a Budweiser in his hand walking up with his dogs to give me a hug. Great cover
A guy a little older than me told me something that changed my life recently. He told me, Man have you realized that when our parents pass that we are next in line. I thought back to when I was a boy to my great parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles. They pass in waves... Lord Help us All
I’ve lost my grand mother in law, two beloved cats, dad, step grand daddy, step dad all in the last two years. I know when it’s my time we will be reunited in God’s kingdom. I can’t wait for that day. I got to thinking the other day; I’m the only man left in my immediate family. It’s a big role to fill. Calling my step grandma, step mom and my mother as often as I can just so I can give them that feeling that the men who come and gone before me gave them with the sound of a voice on the other end of the phone. I’m next brother and that soothes my soul like a violin playing in the wind, like Dixie being whistled from a far.
I saw Shenandoah in the 90s at the Clio Amphitheatre in Michigan when I was a boy. This is one of my favorite songs of all time along with the road not taken, ghost in this house and moon over Georgia.. these guys man, legendary. Very under appreciated in my opinion.
This takes me back to the 80s when I was a young teenager. Sundays at Grandma and Grandpas. We all went to their house for Sunday dinner after church. I can smell it cooking still today. Can’t help but smile and tear up thinking about those simpler times

I listen to way different music than this now that I am older, like hip hop and electronica, but I know every word on this album from them and used to dance with my mom spinning in my living room singing “You gotta get me to the church on Cumberland Road!” This song, too, reminds me of my childhood. Funny we have that in common even though we are so different in real life. I respect those of you who are keeping true, good country music alive in this age of money, splendor, fame, and most of all, profit. You truly are a dying breed man. Keep country alive Even tho I’m a city slicker, ha! But I first heard your Last of a Dying Breed saw this off to the side and clicked on it. Shhh....don’t tell anyone I told you this, but this version, in my opinion, is better. I have listened to this so ouch since I heard it. I still know all the words.
I needed this song today Heath, going through some rough times today. This brings me back to peaceful times. I love Shenandoah. You have a beautiful voice, thank you ♥️🇺🇸
Man that is my favorite country song of all time I listen to it at least twice a week it just something about it that takes me back to my childhood and it makes me feel good. I got to say buddy you did an awesome job with it thank you we need more of this kind of music back on the radio today country music in my mind sounds like this. All the stuff being played today is not country music it’s hard to find a radio station that actually plays real country music like this. More artists need to come do stuff like this.
You have done Shenandoah proud. This made me feel like I was first listening to them in the early 90s and obsessed with watching CMT videos ❤ thank you for bringing that moment back

Music exists to change us, to break us, to heal us, to make us who we are and to not let us forget the people and things that make us who we are. Your momma is still here, in every song.
