Hi, been getting into this game for the past weeks and Traptricks seemed like a fun deck so i informed myself a bunch on what cards to run, what to side and stuff like that. Of course theres like 50 slightly different versions of the deck but i still wanted to give my thoughts and ask for your thoughts on some of the cards. Retaliating "C": At least versus Branded and Runick this seems like a great side in favor of some other handtraps The Black Goat Laughs: Shuts Yubel decks down completely, can be sided against snake eye (i have little experience with the matchup, i guess you'd either stop poplar or flamberge) and can be Holeutea fodder Prohibition: honestly kind of the better Black Goat initially but no holeutea fodder, no sera activation. Solo wins you the game against Yubel too, seems decent vs snake-eye, they probably can play around it too well though. Dimensional Barrier: Seems really strong in Future Formats when the tenpai stuff comes to TCG, also holeutea fodder Grave of the Super Ancient Organism: imo pretty strong going second, if they cant pop it its like a permanent dark ruler no more. also huge when going first ofc. Sadly continuous so no holeutea but i think the card is still really really good. Anti-Spell Fragrance: Honestly a solid side against any deck if you're going first. Ice Dragon's Prison: Fodder for holeutea but also an honestly insane card. Snake-eyes gets shafted by this card pretty hard. Shifter feels a bit bad but is playable but i understand why you dont use it. What are your thoughts on Pot of Prosperity/Traptantalizing Tune? They both feel kind of bad to use, especially if opponent negates but they can be amazing extenders. For extra deck, you have probably looked at tornado dragon, abyss dweller, aussa, exciton or bagooska what are your thoughts on running Agnimal with Flame banshee to get to the two "Number F0" 's through some GY plays? Thought it was too interrupt vulnerable myself but has a higher ceiling than this deck i suppose. I even saw somebody running a superpoly version with the usual garura etc. but it seems very weird/weak. For weird tech cards: some people in Master duel and the OCG run Terrors of the Overroot, maybe thats because of Maxx C existing there, idk it doesn't feel amazing with all the GY effects many Archetypes have nowadays but its still not bad. Speaking of OCG, you probably land on many less plant/insect monsters than the usual traptrix deck with your choice of extra deck, so it might not be very relevant here but OCG has the Trap "Raika Dairin Kubikarimai", which even with only Sera on board is 2 pops (targeted though). This is just me experimenting and rambling so whether you wanna talk about this or not is on you but id be interested in theorycrafting some more

Vs branded it's not as great as you might think though. Vs runick its a decent option since the spell they use to summon will get banished. But retaliating really shines vs purrely, and it has a small use vs snake eye as well. The downside however now is what decks are in the format. On a regional if you want to top you need to have the following mentality. Round 1 can be anything, and i HAVE to win it. From round 2 onwards I expect only the best decks. So snake eye, fire king, voiceless and maaaaybe labrynth. Retaliating sadly falls a bit short here. So in this format I just wouldnt do it. This mentality is also applicable for the other decks you mention, like Yubel. You need to consider the odds you are facing that deck, and truth be told thats not a lot. Ina a standard top 16, there is maybe a chance of 1 being in there. I wouldnt really pick specific cards for a matchup like that :) Focus on what you know you'll face, but keep your own deck synergy in mind.
When we look at future formats, like with those dragons or raika in OCG, or formats like master duel, that is completely different. This deck has been made for this format, and truth be told, i'm always trying to think of ways to improve, even during the same format. Another format = another build. Im not a fan of adding more traps in general. Traps are slow, that is a given. In a vacuüm, where you know you are going first every game 1, sure then more traps in here could be amazing. IDP, anti-spell, summon limit, you name it. They would all help game 1, going first. When we talk about game 2 or 3 though, the opponent has had access to their sideboard, and common side ins these days are cosmic and evenly match because the cards are just good vs traptrix. What I like to do to counter that, is to devide my interuptions between my field, hand and grave. If you side in stuff like anti-spell, you'd just lose even harder to that same evenly. Having the handtrap at that point seems the better option. I dont really fear lightning storm or duster, because i normally go for my arachnocampa play either way, so im safe from those.
About generic cards i could play: Prosperity is in and out the deck from time to time. At this point I feel the threat of droll and lock is to big to use prosp, but im always thinking whether or not i should add it again. Traptantalizing tune is just a no for this deck. Loses hard to ash and droll, and you would be giving up the 1 monster or trap you need to deckthin, which seems counterintuitive right now. Extra deck monsters are always a preference i feel. I tested all options you listed in a lot of different formats, but for this format, i have my choices which i feel really strong about. You can check my extra deck specifically in my deckvideo, or on my short about the extra deck :) Other formats might give me different extra deck choices off course
I have run the pyro build, the armor xyz build and i also ran the super polies before. The thing that happens when you are actually playing, is that consistency is key. If you dont open the combo, or it gets stopped with a single handtrap, you get stuck with a mediocre board. Going for the minimalistic approach gives you the edge, where you dont care much about handtraps. For the super polies, they are just underwhelming right now. Super poly vs the fire board removes 2 of your handcards, and they just get their field back in a second 😆 I opted to use my resources on handtraps which can stop my opponent, and for my extra deck on more relevant choices. I think ive covered all your questions now :) If you have more questions, dont hesitate to ask. I love talking about the deck. It helps me filter my toughts.

When i made this deckprofile i was too scared of droll and lock bird, since the card was simply everywhere. Now i think its actually doable to run 2 prosperity on top of the phantazmays (post testing). Ive already made some videos for the coming days, and you'll notice this is 1 of a few changes to the deck i made. Its visable on my channel in 2-3 days i think 😀

thats a LOT of handtraps for a deck with poor engine recursion....other meta decks CAN handle 16 handtraps...this deck really can't lol...i magine drawing 2 effect veiler, infinite imperm, and 2 drolls on the first hand....no
honestly, i've been playing a lot like this, and it is doing really well up till now. Sure sometimes it happens you have a 5 handtrap hand, but the odds of that are slim (1,55% chance). And even then, if you happen to go second, you'll get a 6th card. + Chances of Phantazmays fixing your hand. Just check out some of my duels, and you'll see it actually works out. Though next format, if Tenpai gets used a lot, I might swap things up again
