I love Hyun Wanner as Percy and am sorry people aren't talking about him more. This dude has such massive presence! I counted that he had 9 lines - 9 LINES in 6 episodes! And, yet, the character had such an emotional impact! Cast Hyun Wanner in everything!

yea no matter how much they push it down my throat i will never like the teacher/student plot. they try to make it more acceptable by saying they met before he was her teacher but like..she still would’ve been under age ..
Absolutely! I'm reading the books at the moment and there it is said that she began texting with Mr Sutton when she was 15! The author tried to make it more appropriate by saying they first met after one year of texting and phone calls. But it still sounds very much like grooming to me.
Like authors who try to make this kind of stuff acceptable should be locked up 😳
Though I don‘t like the subplot- it makes sense. Lydia is an heir to one of the largest companies in England and constantly looks for love in the wrong places. In the books we find out that she fell in love with a reporter (she didn‘t know that though) and he just hooked up with her to leak information to the tabloids. She was 15! Though we don‘t want to see it- it happens all the time.

In the book Percy and the mother know each other like 20 years ago and they are kind of close but nothing else . We don’t know if Percy liked her , but they trusted each other . Well , the teacher and student is kind of creepy , but in the book the teacher is 24 and she is 18 . I think that the only thing to do there is to quit the job 🤷♀️😂

If you are looking for a show that’s similar to Maxton hall and don’t mind subtitles I HIGHLY recommend Skam (theres a version of the same story in multiple different languages but the Norway one is by far the best version). Every season focuses on a different girl in the friend group. My favorite girl/story line is season 2 and the main guy is SO James coded it’s crazy. Highly recommend. 10/10❤

@@Marie10199Is Elaine in love with James in the books? Just simple yes or no would do😂 I don't really want any spoilers. She is actually a good actress too. I felt kind of bad for her when James saw Ruby arrive at the party right after she tried to make him feel better. Like you can tell from her interactions with Ruby that she not only hates Ruby and tries to embarrass her, but you can see the hurt in her eyes when she sees how much James has fallen for another girl.
@@meypuim2951 She’s fueled with jealousy and that’s normal but if she’s feeling like James led her on why is she never mad at him? She’s always going after Ruby for no reason. In episode 5 where she mocks Ruby for James “breaking” up with her? Sorry I have no sympathy. Why the girl and not the guy? Yes James was seen sleeping with her in episode 1 but he regretted it by the look of his face. I’m not sure about the books. From what I’ve heard they have more of f*ck buddy relationship where they occasionally hook up however in the show it comes across as a drunken mistake. I’m not sure if Elaine actually loves James for him though if you pay enough attention to what she tells him in episode 3. She’s talking about him owning the company and she’s like “omg I can’t believe it will be yours one day” and he gives her a disgusting look because deep down he doesn’t want anything to do with the company and that’s all she cares about 😂 This is why James is into Ruby so much because she doesn’t care about his name or anything.
@@Marie10199 yes I agree I have no sympathy for her, just saying she's a good actress too, I see it in her eyes, especially the lacrosse scene when she immediately got up with a concerned look in her eyes when Alistair was kicked out of the match. It's ok. I thought you may have read the books since I have come across your name a lot in the comment sections, maybe I am confusing you with another. I have been told by someone who read the books that after Ruby and James break up, he doesn't sleep with Elaine, but there was an "interaction" whatever that means😂 say no more if you know more, Marie 😂

I don't think that is what they were going for. The actor cast as Percy, Hyun Wanner, is of Asian descent (AND A TOTAL STUD), so I don't see how he could be the father of two blue-eyed white kids. Still, I totally adore the character of Percy, and I think his devotion to James and Lydia is even more touching if there is no biological relationship.
I think he is just very protective of James. He cannot be the father. I think Mortimer is definitely the father. I was shocked that the mother died and really wanted to know how.

My take on Lydia and Sutton: I don't have a problem with them having romantic feelings for each other. There have been many instances in history of adults with a significant age difference being happy together.
The problem I have is that they are pursuing a relationship when it is inappropriate-i.e., while she is his student. There is an idea these days that if you are in love with someone you simply cannot wait to be with them. This is false. I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but true love waits. It is possible to wait for the time when you can be with the one you love in a way that honors you both. Once they decided to brave her family’s disapproval, all Lydia and Sutton had to do was wait for Lydia to graduate. That’s it! That’s six months, tops! That would have honored her, him, and Maxton Hall. I do kind of want to smack them for not even considering this.
A girl I knew in college told me a story about her grandmother. We will call the grandmother “Mary” for the purpose of this story. During Mary’s senior year in high school, she had a teacher who was a young man in his early twenties. He was single and nice, so Mary and her friends would periodically try to set him up with some of the single ladies they knew. To their surprise, he always politely declined. Eventually, graduation rolled around; and right after Mary graduated, her teacher asked her out! He had said no to the other women because he was interested in Mary and was waiting for the time when it would be appropriate to ask her out! I’m sure this guy was a completely normal guy in his early 20s with all the sexual urges that go along with that. However, he waited for Mary because he genuinely liked her, because he thought she was worth waiting for, and because he cared about pursuing her in an honorable way. In time, they got married, stayed married, and eventually had a granddaughter who attended college with me. That is possible. That is love.
I love your take! Now that I think about it, that’s why I find it hard to respect or support a relationship like this. I don’t think he’s respecting the fact that she is still in high school and is much more impressionable at that age

I agree with your take. He should have waited. It's normal for high school teachers to be as young as 21. When I was a freshman in high school, my English teacher was only 21. He had just graduated college and taught English while attending law school. He was more like a friend to his classmates since he was so close in age to his students. But unlike mr. Sutton, he never crossed any line. Total professional. I have a four year old daughter and if something like this ever happened, I will make sure Mr. Sutton goes to prison. Lydia had a few scenes where Cyril seemed to show interest in Lydia, unbeknownst to her. I hope to see some kind of connection between the two in the next season. Perhaps there is more depth to the character of Cyril.😂
@@meypuim2951, your teacher sounds like a keeper. I think Cyril has to learn responsiblity and to stop taking drugs before he would be a good match for Lydia (who is about to become a mother). He genuinely likes Lydia, but he has the same problem as James - they have been encouraged to develope superficial, selfish attitudes.
