I just watched 19 minutes of this. It was good seeing the skills of these Captains in such boats carrying loads that have the boat sunken nearly under load. Nice. Which Country is this?
The need for so much dirt to be hauled by boat. The small boats are hauling less then 15 yards of dirt. That must make the dirt delivery very expensive .
So many of these boats look like they are hauling dirt/mud. Why do they do that? Is that to replace lost soil in other parts of the country along the river? It looks like it's a very common load for these boats, but I can't think of why.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have multiple gates open under that bridge, rather than those boats having to fight all the current through a single one?
I'm thinking you're right, as long as the flow is still out to sea. You can have them all open. Just close them before high tide or the wind changes (maybe). Hopefully, they do have a good reason. Maybe they just like to live dangerously?
Pyne Tripp did you see some of those engines create more smoke than all cars of a medium sized country produce in one day? They may think it helps on that?
They seem very skilled to me. The lock is open once a day so they are ready and waiting. Where is the chaos? Even when a heavy barge lost power accidents were averted. The skill of the captains of these heavy barges is exceptional.
