We rode the day before and the noise of constant motorbikes passing us was insane. Like you say respectful because they're also enjoying the roads and scenery but damn them loud exhausts
Hi David , thanks for sharing this video .i was one of the 20K on 18th June and enjoyed every single minute there . my first Sella Ronda and my 1st time in the Dolomites , shame on me being born and raised in Italy , but i ll be back soon because this is really a paradise when it gets to cycling and hiking

Great! Now do the "Alpenbrevet" in Switzerland. They're offering several routes, from bronze at 13 km and 1119 m of climb, to platinum at 278 km / 7090 m. I assume the different routes are to keep traffic real; it's terribly popular. Back in the day when I was doing it, the route was usually four passes (Susten, Grimsel, Nufenen, Gotthard): 160 km with about 5000 m of "up" -- ee-NUFF for one day where I was concerned.

In the US Pacific Northwest, we have Ride the Rim. On two weekends, they close the road around Crater Lake for car-free cycling. Not a race; just a ride. Gorgeous views and good climbs, though not with the passes and cycling history of the Italian event.
That was an awesome ride!! Viva L’Italia .. I would love to do that but not sure if it’s in the cards. My Father’s family is Italian .. they immigrated to Canada after the Second World War. Man just thinking of how life would have been different for me if they would have stayed. Ride on !! Cycling is the best form of stress release!!
What were the logistics for getting to the area? I'd considered it for this September. But could not find great flights nearby - looking like Innsbruck with 2 flights (and the danger of my bike box getting through) and then a 90 minute bus...
Still one bike day more to come on September. Don't miss it.👍 And if you do not have enough you can add two more passes: valparola and giau and than you can go back to Campolongo. ♥️

not to question your italian fluency but the plaque reads: "In the shadow of the majestic dolomite's peaks this bronze will witness over time the unparallelled challenges of the biggest cyclist of all times. To Fausto Coppi, the greatest champion. Passo Pordoi 2nd of july 2000 Municipality of Canazei."
did you have to queue for a long time to get the water? Great that the road was closed, but with so many riders, looks like there were many other bottlenecks...
I’d like to see roads like this permanently closed to cars, at least on weekends (for example). That doesn’t mean leaving people who need to drag supplies from A to B screwed. If we can build interstate systems, we can put in tunnels and trains. The energy spent building the tunnels and tracks is saved 1000x over.
agreed on all fronts, roads so good , if you want a nice 'rounded'test the giau is not far away , 1000 m climbing , 10 k , even i can work that one out
plenty of lights into Venice and it's about a 2.5 hr transfer to Alta Badia so I'd say pretty easy and likely loads of companies that can arrange it all for you if you need
you're going to be fine, even outside the events those climbs are constantly full of cyclists, cars and motorbikes know that and are respectful there is always some degree of crowds on those passes in the weekend but the problem is parking a car not driving a bike.

@@elevenocean4471 Not a personal reference, but I used to read a blog of a guy who was once the UK hill climb champion, and he raved about Croatia. His blog was called cycling uphill. The review will doubtless still be there somewhere.
