- I'm planning a whole series of cycling cafe and cake reviews, mainly as an additional excuse to ride my bike somewhere nice then eat cake. Strictly speaking, the Green Table isn't a Cycling Cafe, it's just a cafe I rode to but never mind.... I can only get better at this! Leave me your recommendations in the comments and I'll try and get to your favourite spot.

There's something really endearing about a vlogger that is self conscious about the absurdity of self filming a vlog. I think the title format is perfect as is.

Oh, you are just beyond adorable. The new Julia Child of cakes and coffee. Score based on this as a baseline and strive to make each place more bike-friendly.. please bring Dave and your Munchkin sometimes to give a range of reactions. Great series!
"Juliet's slighty awkward cafe reviews" or something like that. I like it though, needs like a Bike Score, a Cake Score and a Bean Score so we can combine them with your secret algorythm (sp?), you get the idea.. Meet with cycling buddies might help with the awkward part. You did great!
Love the videos where you or Dave ride around Devon. Reminds me of home! The cake review makes it even better. My vote goes to the person that suggested you leave the title as Awkward Cake Reviews.
I like this series concept, it allows viewers to get more engaged with the channel and suggest their local / favorite cafe. I would recommend a scoring system with 4 parts:
1) Riding Conditions: quite roads / trails, route surface (smooth pavement, knarly single track, muddy goat path), scenery, elevation gain/loss, total ride distance.
2) Bicycle Friendliness: Bike security, parking, seating (inside / outside), (there is a cafe near me that has specific Bike rails like a triathlon transition area to hold bikes, with cafe tables near the rack to keep you eye on your bike)
3) Cake: Variety, taste, texture, sweet - whatever you think makes a great cake (brownies are not cake) ;-)
4) Coffee - presentation, temperature, body, flavor,
Grad each on 1 to 10, maximum score 40 = the ideal destination cafe, 4 points = stay away at all costs.
Love the title - go with it. The Vlog is awesome - really enjoy your content. Keep up the great work.
Awkward Cake Review, best concept ever and hilarious. Love it! Try Rosie Lee in Hayfield. Great tea, coffee and cake and the owners are super friendly and bike friendly. And they would find this idea brilliant, you’d have a good laugh. Top job 😀

Try the Blue Zucchini in Tetbury Gloucestershire. It’s bike friendly , always let you bring your bike in and if you sit outside they bring you a blanket too !!! Cakes are huge and service with a smile and make your feel very welcome and appreciated

I like the idea and your scoring system seemed fair. Maybe add the numbers to the screen at the end as a summary and keep a ranking 😀. For a series name, how about Juliets Great British Cake Off
This is a fun video. Trails look like fun. Is the ride an excuse to eat cake, or is going to a cafe a good excuse for taking the long way by bike? Both are good. Watching you go through the awkward vlog cake review was great. I like your care free attitude about it.

love your idea, Juliet!! Juliet Bikes for Cake - focus more on varieties offered and less on one in particular. ask about which ones locals like best. no need to film actual eating/drinking. add few comments about the ride, too.
Awkward Cake reviews! Love it. Berry Pomeroy has a cafe with cake, may be worth a visit. I've previously suggested Lutzy's on Exeter Quay....take daughter and even Dave along? Bike racks you can see from your table and Lutzy is good fun. Popular with cyclists at weekends defo. The community cafe at the village hall at Exminster has good cake. For sheer cake volume then Clocktower Cafe at Sidmouth. Mahoosive. Then Peak Hill! Cheeky 25% climb to Budleigh. Liked the soundtrack and you were clearly having fun. Thanks!
If you ever get to Hertfordshire, you must visit The Hub in Redbourn, and have a ride in The Chilterns.

I really like the cake and cafe review idea. What is it with cycling and cafes? The South Staffordshire Railway Walk is a great, short, very muddy (depending on the time of year) ride that has two cafes on route! By the way, your link to Assos in the description is a bit broken...
I agree with David Brown. The name Awkward Cake Review is brilliant. Next time your in California I have some suggestions for places for you to stop for cake. Including at least one that takes in a ride along the ocean.

Love the concept of 'Juliet's Slightly Awkward Cake Review' based on the bike bean and cake (BBC) scores. An additional part of the 'experience' is the ride there and back which is this case looked drop-dead gorgeous - could this be added in too?

Juliets Coffee Stops. Reviews ( and maybe interviews - patrons- riders special guests? ) could be part of a podcast style cycling discussion covering a range of topics including lifestyle family local issues and drumroll- special guests ( these could be cycling identities, local people family friends really anyone at all interesting. Bicycle and equipment discussions riding - the year ahead etc etc. coffee get a rating out of five with a proper taste breakdown and cake out of five too. The cafe gets a rating based on the coffee and cake score plus amenities feel and friendliness and a cycling score based on facilities (bike racks, bathroom and bike security.) all this should add up to 20. Anyway love the idea it has a lot of potential. Hope my comments are useful.

Use the cogs on a cassette to score. Either do the number of cogs, 1 through 12. Or the size of each individual cog. I think riding in England would be cool. You guys seem to love your cake, and I love cake. We have Panera bread 🍞 and Starbucks

Well Juliet, they don’t really need bike racks as there’s plenty of wall space. We regularly go there with a large group. On multiple visits, Cakes are 8/10 and the Coffee 7/10, quality very good but not the biggest cups we have in this area! Keep up the good work. Price towards the high end in this area. Title is fine.

If the milk's too hot it won't stretch and the consistency of the coffee will suffer. I've noticed in Pret a Manger they over-heat the milk so the coffee quickly ends up looking like hot muddy water. No wonders baristas get funny about being asked to make extra hot coffee.
I like the concept of occasionally going to dive bars on the bike, we call ourselves Drinkers with a Biking Problem.
Instead of scoring everything, categorizing some things might work a little better. For example, you could say what kind of atmosphere the cafe is going for, and how well it works. I look forward to seeing more of these!
What's wrong with me, I don't like coffee or cake 🤨
I would suggest, whenever you get some sort of title worked out, is to challenge others to do the same bicycling/ride arrangements/bicycle parking/desert/coffee videos, and re-use the title (or at least part of the title), so a whole series of reviews would be searchable on TH-cam. Much like the "What Lessons Animation Has Taught Us" challenge done by the movie critic community on TH-cam.

I call it Bikesnacking, or Bicycle Flapjacking. The Green Table is my local stop and yes, the coffee is always cold!
One little cafe I stopped at recently, stole my half drunk coffee and half eaten cake, when I popped to the little boys room. My helmet and rucksack where on the table and bike next to that. I should have complained I just hadn’t finished.
We have cafes in and around Trough of Bowland which are cyclists specific, lock ups and bike racks ..😉👍

Hi Juliet .... fun video .... I think the scoring system should be out of ten and the points to score are ...
1. the overall ambiente
2. bike parking
3. the taste of the coffee & cake
4. the price overall and compared to the size of the piece of cake
here in Germany I've been to a few cafe's and although the pricing is similar the size of the piece you get can be quite different ... I don't think the Cafe's have to be strictly Cycling Cafe's .... there are a lot of people just out for a Sunday ride with the kids and don't have a Cycling Cafe near them ... as for a name Hmmm (the cogs are still turning) pun intended ;-)

After their son bought a specialized, my local _now_ allows me to take my bike inside and park it, leaning on his.
As for the rest, I stop in full-reachable view of my bike, or I just keep on keeping on.

Like the bike parking score. So many places get this wrong.
The Almond Thief, Dartington for coffee and cake. Best to go in the morning, cakes sell out fast. The VeloShack, Dawlish Warren for wonderful customer service, bike racks, very relaxed. Welcome Café, Haven Banks, Exeter for friendly service - they'll open their side gate so you can take your bike into their yard. We've yet to try Café 3 Sixty at Bovey Tracey.

My experience .. organised group rides and coffee things that you look for. If 10 bikes arrive at the same time how does the parking cope . Can you see your bike while you are inside and outside. Toilets and free filtered water for getting hydrated quickly and refilling bidons. good places serve comlimentary jugs of fresh iced wateg and a tray of glasses. Seating offerd at reserved cyclists table. Then , are the floors road cleat freindly. does the proprietor have polished wood floors or a "no bike shoes allowed" sign ? Wet and muddy bike gear in the shop or will they wait on you? if your a re shivering do they have heating. Ive been to cafes where the cyclists and smokers are put outside together. Can you get a meal on a plate if you are really famished. Do they offer much Vegan and gluten free options. Do you have to carry cash? A lot of times i've gone to country towns and we leave our vehicles and do a loop, have coffee and break up from there. so is there safe parking for say 10 cars as well do they mind. To trade back, a group can drop a few hundred dollars after a ride and if you become a regular and give word of mouth .. that is valuable trade.

Location; Vibe (Barista and fellow clients), ease of bike access, Wifi, recharging, Bathroom size cleanliness. Extra's; location, items they sell, whatever is special about the place. 25 points for each section.

If not, Awkward Cake Review(s) is a great title. Probably in the plural as my first impression of the title (before watching) was that the awkwardness stemmed from not enjoying the cake in some way. If you went with "...Reviews" it would be apparent that the awkwardness was part of the style.
Anyway this is all probably moot as there haven't been any more in 9 months but... great video!
