You have such an uncomplicated way of demonstrating your painting tutorials. The instructions and details concerning the paints needed, brushes, etc. makes it all so easy to follow and duplicate. Knowing you are a self taught artist, it surely aspires me to keep practicing the techniques so that maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to paint these beautiful pieces some where close to your style. i tried copying this obra of your's Mr. JM. i used latex paint and instead of canvas cloth, i used linen cloth. you made my experience so easy. John, I have just found you on TH-cam and Sunrise Beach is your first tutorial I am trying. I have been painting a little over a year now, mostly following tutorials. I love ocean and wave pictures and they are pretty much the only scenes I feel comfortable painting on my own. I am almost done completing my version of your tutorial. I can't tell you enough how much I like the results so far. I have learned so much along the way. I can't wait to finish this and then try your other tutorials. Thank you very much.

That was a fantastic tutorial. I just picked up a commission to do a seascape from one of my brothers friends who was looking at my painting I did for my sister of a huge hawaiian wave which turned out so realistic however, I never know what I'm doing as I just paint off the cuff so to speak. This tutorial really helps me to understand the process.

Have you ever just painted on the canvas without drawing it out firstly? I just paint on canvas as drawing then colouring the objects becomes technical like paint by numbers. And it also tends to make the artworks look stiff. No movement in the image. But you're teaching 😊 so that's cool. I've shared your art on FB to my nearly 5,000

Another winner! And thanks for the info about how to download the painting for a template. Did you say that using a pencil instead of the burnt sienna paint for a bottom sketch is okay? Thanks.
you're welcome... thank you very much Linda... Yes you can use pencil but chalk is better... I will try to use chalk on my next videos. You can easily erase it and it won't be visible after layers of thin paint.

Another awesome painting, one tip for future reference though ..... never use a pencil to draw out your concept better use kids chalk........ pencil you will not get rid off you see pencil under your painting :( < speaking from experience :(> while chalk can be over painted or with a damp brush or cloth removed :) kids chalk is cheap and comes in various colors and even can be used over acrylics! :)
Thank you for that tips... I actually use that before... but now I am fun using paints to do the sketching... and when I do some portrait paintings I will use pencils.. because chalks can't hardly be seen especially when it's very detailed... and I'm still good using pencils for 16 years now... :) thanks for the tip..
anyway I will incorporate that on the next videos so others will know.. thank you.

thanks sir.... I am living in a small town in a 3rd world country which I have a very limited resources to use... Even buying materials still need to travel for 161km... I do not know if I can find that chalk pencils... so I will use every resources I have.. No matter how limited it is.. Anyway, I am a self-taught artist and I'm still experimenting since....

I would love to try to paint this one I'm a little intimidated but listening to you and watching you it seems I can is this a 16X20 ?
It will be a good idea if you try this one... It's 14 x 18 inches... Yes you can do it on 16x20.
What do you do to prepare your canvases before painting? Do you put some transparent medium underneath or with the paints or white gesso? Because the way your acrylics blend is so smooth, and I can't figure out how you blend so well. I want that atmospheric look.
I only used gesso to primed my canvas... and I dip my brush into the water to make it fluid and that's why it flows on canvas.

The brushes you use in your videos seem to be a little bit more flexible especially the details in this video on the waves. My brushes are kind of stiff. What brand brushes do you use in your paintings? Do you suggest a kind of flexible brush tip for this painting?
Hello Pamela... Choose the nylon brushes... I only use cheap brushes

I have to ask you a question,:
in your painting ( Sunrise Beach) you tell us, that you are using burned sienna, but to me it look like a burned umber you are using..
The sienna is more red, and the umber more brown.
Please tell me if I'm wrong
Hello sir Per. Yes! I am using burnt sienna. I think it seems darker on the video... And maybe because of some lighting effects on the video. I can't really explain it. Thank you for your question sir.
