Yes Michelanne, the pound shops are not as good as they used to be, but there are still bargains to be found. Glad you enjoyed the tour, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Enjoyed seeing both the new and old sites in lovely Leath! 🏴 Loved hearing about the ancient abbey and historical highlights around town, but also felt very interested to see a few of the shops. And the pound shop looked way nicer inside than any dollar store I’ve seen! 🏰
Another great tour and history lesson too. It’s a shame it’s in ruins but it’s still beautiful. Take care and thank you for sharing your tour and history 👍🙏❤️
Glad you enjoyed the trip Chris. The ruins do have a beauty all of their own, and felt magical in the morning sun with the birds singing. You take care too, and thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Living vicariously through the Johnsons.... 👍😃As soon as I hear that familiar opening music, my heart lifts, as I know I'm going to have a lovely day out! And what a really varied day it was. I never say no to a charity shop or another castle and the abbey was really amazing. In my dreams I've upped sticks and moved to Neath thanks to Manky showing us a few properties for sale. What a lovely bunny decoration for so little cost! Liking Neath a lot. It feels like a homely sort of town and with a huge wealth of interesting history which you both shared with us so well. Thanks so much for taking me along. I just knew I'd enjoy my day out.
Thank you so much! You're lovely comment has made us so happy, and Manky is really chuffed to hear he did such a good job selling the houses 🏘🏠🏡 ⭐🐼⭐ We are truly inspired by your wonderful words. Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
A great video. We love a old castle so enjoyed this one. We visited Julies sister today who lives in Rochester and what a castle they have there. I went for a walk and left Julie in doors with her sister as I once again visited this magnificent castle. It’s history is amazing and well worth a visit if you both are down this neck of the woods. Once again thanks for the history and we love Caroline’s Easter Bunny🐣🐇😊👍
So glad you enjoyed the video, and Rochester Castle sounds well worth a visit, as does Rochester itself with all of it's history. Will be back in the summer for sure as helping out with Max in July and August. It would be great to meet up too. Happy hunting and thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Oh yes! Rochester is full of history and even Dickens. The cathedral is open to visitors and well worth a visit. The castle has a long history (like most of them) and the siege of King John in 1215 was horrific and was also involved in another two sieges. Oh yes defo hook up in the summer so hopefully we will see you then. Mark and Julie👍⭐️😊
What a wonderful tour. I love these old places. I've only been to Wales once and can plainly see by this video I need to go again. Thanks for a great video.
Hi. All ancestors come from Leeds and York. I would love to see the sites there. Just think my Great great grandfather may had walked there. Excited. Now I am in Texas USA
This was a great adventure! Some beautiful ruins populated by wild Manky Bears, they are a friendly bear, thankfully, known to bring good luck.😉 I always love the history, I guess occasionally the walls do have something to say to us, not as much as we would like, but enough to intrigue us. I hope all is well, cheers.😊
So Glad you enjoyed this tour of the ruins and the stories that the walls shared with us. As you say Manky's are very friendly bears, and we have news on tonight's live show that the population is on the increase 🐼🐼🐼🐼🐼🐼🐼🐼🐼 Hope all is well with you too, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I have lived in so many places, but Drummau has always been in my bedroom window, from Clydach to Trebanos to kimla to Briton Ferry to Skewen where I live now. The history of Neath fills me with a fighting energy.....the Roman ruins don't seem very Roman, most Roman things don't, but Neath especially. All I see is a destroyed place of unique natural diversity and extreme beauty, once regarded as the prettiest place in the world prior to the industrial revolution. It wasn't that long ago they figured out what plants could grow in our toxic black soil and now were lucky enough to be surrounded by rotting diseased forests.....now fracking, gassification and green energy wants to destroy what is left.....beyond the mountain top I have found no where not filled with slag and mine waste, no water without acid mine waste, no forest not filled with coal and slag glass. I also see no evidence that the people in this area were paid well or compensated, the houses round here still suck :)
Neath has a total of 12 charity shops within the town centre, with plans to open another one later this year (Autumn), I think this is a record for any Welsh Town
We love charity shops, and always enjoy a trip to Neath. I think our local town may hold the record for chip shops, as including Kebab Shops there were 14 the last time I checked!! But we only have 2 charity shops. Thanks for watching 🤠🙂🐼
Really enjoyed your history & wander around Neath. Could you plz tell me the name of the medieval music you play at castles and the music you play when filming underwater. I love the music & would like to listen to the full piece, thanks in anticipation 😀
So glad you enjoyed this tour of the town and Abbey Ann... I think the music at the ruins was this piece... th-cam.com/video/M_AcKq_a9BE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AaronKenny thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
i live just up the road from neath abbey and its an amazing place .if you love history come visit the 1000yr old piece of history, you never know, you may see the monks that are said to walk the grounds ..and if you do come REMEMBER to ask the person at the gate for THE KEY and believe me it is a big key. to what i have always called dracula,s crypt ,because when you open that great wooden door you will know what i mean.
Wow that does sound intriguing, so we did a bit of a search on the web and came up with this... www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/inside-neath-abbeys-secret-800-16834002 We'll definitely be looking for the BIG Key on our next visit. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
@@holidaychap It was huge 🗝️😂 We went in search of a crypt in this week's video, but this time we had to climb a mountain and a quarry to reach a derelict site and start our search 🤠😎🐼
Believe or not the first place i went metal Detecting was in Neath Abbey, my other half bought me a metal detector for Christmas ears ago but my question was where i can go? Not knowing all the metal detecting laws she said try the place Neath Abbey so i went there talk to the gate keeper he was very pleasant and told me to go to a certain spot where i could find some coins , well a hour later 2 polices cars stopped and looking for me lol so i explained i didn't know anything about metal detecting laws and never come back to Neath Abbey since.I would defenetly recommend to visit this beautiful place .
What a tale from the Abbey! That's one problem we always were concerned about with metal detecting... All the rules, laws and regulations!! Glad our visit brought back memories, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons your very welcome. Peoples are missing a lot of beautiful places in Wales so when I come to Wales many years ago my attitude was to explore a lots of places and I did, its very positive for both your mindset and your health I suppose. Thumbs up for your contents. Diolch.
Gosh, we're so sorry to hear that you were disappointed Yvonne... We tried to balance the tour of the town with history of Lord Nelson and The Formation of the Rugby Union as well as the Castle ruins along side the modern town that has grown out of the industrial revolution. We also felt that that amazing ruin of the Abbey that dates back to 1180 was well worth sharing. Hope you enjoy the next one, which again combines the Victorian with the medieval, but from the city of Cardiff. 🙂😎🐼
A lovely country drive, history, legend, ruins, shops and crafts. Perfect!
Glad you enjoyed this trip and the variety Cathryn, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
🙋♀️❤ Another fabulous outing with the Johnsons! You two are treasures !
Thanks so much Margaret, you are so kind and encouraging... thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Fantastic video Phil and Caroline!! The ruin will make a great drawing/painting ie Caroline!!
Thanks Adam, we agree it is a great place to draw or paint 🙂😎🐼
Your pound shop does look like the Dollar Stores in Canada, but there seems to be some better prices on a few things. Nice tour again today.
Yes Michelanne, the pound shops are not as good as they used to be, but there are still bargains to be found. Glad you enjoyed the tour, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I love the new videos. Lots of history. I also love looking in the shop windows. Pretty cute craft too. 😍

Very interesting history but I don’t think I would enjoyed living back in the day.
Excellent point Hazel. It is wonderful to see the ruins and learn the stories, but we're far better off these days for sure! 🙂😎🐼
34:05 A very old tradition was to throw an iron weapon into the water to appease the (feminine form of) water and allow safe travels.
