I defy any modern singer to sing with this simplicity and sincerity, and the purity of voice. A truly wonderful recording of a great singer who should be remembered.

This is the most perfect rendition of this piece ever recorded. Isobel Baillie's perfect diction is literally heavenly.

Traditional old school style. Especially on the high notes she used restraint and control with ease... You can hear her natural simplicity..like she's freely expressing her voice with no complications.. May Her Spirit Rest In Peace..

It was the late Alan Keith on his Sunday night Radio 2 programme who introduced me to Dame Isobel and Kathleen Ferrier. They are two absolutely fabulous singers. They are both at the top of my greatest singers list, thank you. I love this particular recording.

No atheist can sing this aria convincingly. This is perfection through faith.

Nobody sings like this any more - such a steely chest voice married to a clear high silvery head register. No leaning on a straight tone, no hooting, no crooning. It's time for the pendulum to swing back the other way in terms of vocal coaching and training.

I agree with those who have said they never heard this sung so well. Absolutely Beautiful

  • @Centurianarv

I used to consider Kathleen Ferrier as the Gold standard till I heard this

To think that she performed it in 1941 during World War 2 a really dark time in World history. Yet she never gave up hope in Christ, it shows that God's Light shines brightly even in our darkest moments. We need never despair.

There are tears running down my face. The voice is so pure and unforced that I imagined it was an angel singing.

A song sung by a woman 80 years ago. Still just as beautiful as it was back then

To my shame I had never heard of her until hearing this - but what a Divine introduction. Heavenly voice Heavenly sent. Unsurpassable. Joy.

Isobel Baillie's interpretation of this song when I'm depressed or feeling down which has the most meaning for me. Her angelic voice and dramatic reading of this work brings to me the encouragement from the scripture to carry on. I'm also impressed with the photos showing her growth from a young woman to one who is honored by her country. My thanks to Roy Gardner for posting this video.
