    Wish the video was a bit longer so I could hear the Toshiba motors in action.
    I look forward to seeing these cars on the rails.

    LIRR M8 cars in the background. The 7000 owes it's look to the R160. Hell, it owes a lot to the R160.

    Anyone know which car this is that Sarles is operating from? We can read "700" in the video, but not the last digit. So it's either 7000, 7002, 7004, 7006, or 7008, but any idea which one?

    • @captainkeyboard1007
      @captainkeyboard1007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably it was 7062.

    • @SchuminWeb
      @SchuminWeb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainkeyboard1007 That would have been too late for Sarles to have been involved. 7062 would have been manufactured too late for Sarles to have visited. Remember that he retired in January 2015.

    They look like a sexier R160. I understand why they got rid of the orange seats (they wanted a 21st century look), but why did they get rid of the brown stripes? That was their trademark.

      @Leonard Wilson As a resident of the Washington DC suburbs, my understanding of them getting rid of the brown stripes has something to do with the new look that Metro was going for. The brown stripes on the new 7000 series cars wouldn't look good at all since they are silver colored stainless steel. The reason why the older trains have the brown stripes despite some of them having a new silver wrap is due to the fact that the older trains are extruded aluminum and not stainless steel if that makes sense

    Umm did anyone notice that there are less seats on the series 7000???With the rush hour and non rush hours those trains would be pack leaving most people standing. So they substitute it for more standing room. I am also not happy about the exterior look the front of the new series looks pretty nice but the sides look so much like NYC tin can rail cars. This the same company that makes nyc rail cars that are quite noisy compare to the quiet buzzing sounds from breda series etc. I worked in ny and is use to the their new cars with the similar technology that is being incorporated into the 7000 not that impressive to brag about. The windows are much smaller compared to the older models so you wont really get that large memorizing view of the dc metropolitan areas also out with the brown and in with the purple?.. i do agree that everything need to upgrade at some point but there are some history that just need left alone. So glad the other models would be around for awhile.

    • @Rohrbach17
      @Rohrbach17 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milly Brumant I know you might not be happy with the exterior look of the new trains, but you have to keep in mind that WMATA doesn't want to continue using the same old railcar design and appearance it's had for years and plus the 7000 series trains have improved reliability so if that's what WMATA wants, then let them have it. More standing room was added so they way passengers are not as crushed as they may have been in the older trains (in other words they are trying to relieve the rush hour and so that's why the 7000 series are "Crush Resistant". Can you further explain the "History that needs to be left alone"? I don't see anything that needs to be left alone as WMATA is improving the system

      Less seats mean more capacity because 1 seat-worth of space can stand more than 1 person

    Horrible styling. Or rather no styling. Looks like something out of the 1960's
    Corrugated sides! Tiny windows! Thick door frames! And what about the front end.....lost an opportunity to make it look distinctive and up to date.
    Very poor effort. The old 1000 series had a much cleaner look, so 30 years on...this is the best we can do?
    Shoulda hired Siemens!
