I was instantly crying too, it brought back so much nostalgia and good memories from my childhood. Harry Potter wasn’t just part of my childhood growing up, it was my childhood. It made me very emotional watching it.
Regarding Harry and Hermione hugs vs Harry and Ron hugs, honestly it rings true as just being a sad effect of a lot of male friendships. It's just an awful social thing that even in the most emotional of circumstances men just hold back, and possibly some women draw that boundary too. I know for me, even as a guy with no attachment to toxic masculinity at all, I'm still not even able to hug my best straight male friends despite badly wanting to at the most appropriate moments, for multiple of the same or similar reasons. And I see it in many of the friendships around me. At the end of secondary school I only recall a certain handful of friend groups sharing hugs, and all of them included girls, members of the lgbtq and a couple straight guys who became acclimated to that social group. All the other groups of guy friends did no such thing, or shook hands at best, despite it being possibly the last time they were ever going to see each other after 7 years of being friends. When it hasn't been a norm in occasional social interaction then it suddenly feels so foreign that it doesn't come to mind, even at the most poignant times. For Ron and Harry as the two are portrayed in the movies, they fell prey to a lot of the silly behaviors that distanced them more than they should have (honestly more on Ron's part imo). It was very notable in Goblet of Fire. On the flip side, Hermione actively uses hugs as a part of her language, and is really the main initiator. The cast doesn't seem to carry the same type of dynamics on-set between each other, cause hugs seem free among all of them, bless their souls.
The fact that I was watching you react to Harry Potter (which I grew up with and will love forever) while seeing all your BTS merch in the background (ARMY FOREVER) just absolutely gave me life!!!! 💜💜
I loved your reaction and "rant" about the added dance scene between Harry and Hermione, and the movies making Harry and Ron's relationship pretty much meaningless. It's like... their bromance was lost in the movies 😄 I didn't want to complain too much while I was watching the reunion because I actually really loved it but I had the same thoughts about these things. i get this is a comment from 4 months ago so hopefully you've educated yourself by now with the wealth of evidence of jkr's transphobia and homophobia and fascism. the antisemitism and racism in the books as well. harry potter saved me as a child and i hold my memories dearly. but i cannot deny the truth about the author. i refuse to give her money. i refuse to interact with this fandom with the things said unchallenged. if you know the hp fandom then you know it tries to be a separate entity from jkr's canon. slytherins in fandom rejected the nazi-esque themes of canon slytherin. people are more inclusive. they criticize the harmful themes of hp and rewrite them out in fanfic. im v proud of them for doing that. tl;dr if you're gonna be here then don't be ignorant. or you'll gonna look like you are sympathetic to transphobia and homophobia and fascism.
