Losing Peeta really did rock her to her core. I remember reading the books and thinking how interesting it was how Katniss represented hope to so many people but Peeta did that for her.

Yes!! I mention that often in TH-cam comments. It was so weird because Finnick was a major fan favorite from the books, but they cut most of his Mockingjay scenes. The type you mentioned- Katniss and Finnick’s friendship- was mostly replaced with scenes of Katniss and Gale instead. 😒
Yeah. In the books it also helps that Katniss's internal monologue makes it clear she gets Finnick. Especially after Catching Fire, where she was pretty judgy about his perceived promiscuity and his revealing outfits, (which btw, are both common trauma responses after SA, even though here it's also a forced act, and a way to protect the person he actually loves) she got to know Finnick much better, and wasn't so judgey anymore. That whole revelation on her part isn't really there anymore, since we don't know her thoughts as well in the movies, but I feel that it played a big part in her turnaround from distrusting and judging to trusting and accepting, because she knew she misjudged him so badly.
i just finished watching the movie and i totally agree!! and they filmed the funny one where it showcased their friendship a bit more and deleted that scene. he was so underwhelming in p1!
When filming these movies they kept jennifer and josh apart quite a bit, so when he’d pop up in the screen her reaction was more genuine, because they really did miss each other and i think that’s just so cute😭
Oh gosh now knowing Josh & Jennifer's friendship, i can admit what it must've done to the actors. Did Josh really shed all that weight or was it CGI? and Was it really this image of Josh that Jennifer got to see first?

Okay, I know I'm two movies too late to comment on this: But I just want to say that Jennifer Lawrence's performance in each of these movies are absolutely phenomenal! And I think Mockingjay 1 & 2 are probably where it's all on display ( She is great in all, this is just my opinion.) What an amazing actress!

i really love how much you can tell that Katniss has fallen for Peeta in this movie, even when he isn't there. When Haymitch says in Catching Fire "you could live a 100 lifetimes and never deserve that boy" this movie really showed that the feelings between Katniss and Peeta are mutual and that she really loves him and they deserve each others love and appreciation

I'm so exicted for the prequel haha. Having read the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, what I really appreciated about it, is that compared to other villian origin stories, this prequel is not attempting to make you sympathize or feel bad for Snow (I really hope the movie sticks to that). It shows you that man was a slimy entitled little shit from the beginning and its almost as if he doesn't want to hide it. He cares only for power and status, even if there are people around him who could've helped him be better. His character arc, while reiterating that he is a disgusting human being, makes perfect sense.
Gale is pathetic tbh 😭 he was so irritating in this damn movie. Also katniss being used as a political pawn is so interesting to me. She truly started a revolution, but she was mentally traumatised and exhausted, simply trying to do whatever to survive the games. She’s understandable tbh, she just wants to be free

Snow took away the one choice Peeta had, to always be himself. What the capitol did to Peeta is so incredibly twisted. His story is one of the sadest. He lost everything other than Katniss, he lost his home, his family, and even in a way his self.
I absolutely hated Gale when he called Peeta a coward. Saying "i would never say that". really sir🤦🏽♀so youre saying that if they said "unless you say this in front of the camera, we are going to kill your entire family and bomb your district (which is what actually what they said to Peeta)" youre telling me that you would still refuse. I highly doubt that😤. also, he is only saying that cuz its Peeta, I KNOW IT
Knowing Gale’s character, I think he would still refuse to cooperate, but that’s not a point in his favor. I like that he stands up to tyranny but he’s definitely an “ends justify the means” type.
A lot of reactors have this same question and frustration with Katniss not wanting to help the rebellion because they didn't save Peeta, so here it is: she doesn't know how she feels about Peeta, just that he is important to her for multiple reasons. Her driving force in refusing to help is that they are trying to use her. She doesn't care about the revolution in the beginning, all she cares about is keeping her loved ones safe. Peeta is in that category and the fact that the rebellion basically played her and left him to the capitol makes her angry. Because ultimately, the rebellion doesn't care about her family or what she wants, they want her image to unite the districts. It's basically the way that the capitol treated her, like a pawn. So even if it's a good cause in the end they don't actually care about Katniss, they care about what she can do for them.
I remember and seeing this in theaters SHOOK when they showed the aftermath of 12. I know it isn't surprising given the series but, something about it was more than what I expected.
I absolutely love this movie it’s my second favorite in the collection but it’s probably because it’s the only movie where katniss and peeta have no on screen time together besides him trying to kill her

Spoilers for A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes!!!!!!!! The song Katniss sang that they end up showing Peeta etc etc, is actually a song written by Lucy Gray Baird! Fun fact, she was Snows tribute and Snow ended up falling in love with her, but something ended up happening between them so they never ended up being together. When you think about it, Snow was probably ENRAGED when Katniss sang the song by HIS lover, which is likely when Snow decided to torture and manipulate him worse than he had been before because he knew it would hurt Katniss even more if Peeta was back but not himself.
Loving this. Katniss was 16 in the first book. Catching Fire, she was 17. half way through Mockingjay she was 18. But I feel like in the movies they aged her up, so in the first movie she was 17, in the second movie she was 18, and close to the end of Part 2 she was 19.
Finnick’s story is so much sadder when you realize he was the youngest Hunger Games victor at age 14. So right after he won, he was forced to sell his body. That poor man didn’t deserve any of this 😭
The cat request is actually rather funny in the books. In the book it was the first thing she asked about and it sparked a conflict between the 13th and the capitol rebels present at that meeting. The capitol people (more like people that have been spies in the capitol for years after joining the rebellion) saw that as a non issue like "what do you mean, of course you can keep your cat" and the 13th people started to be like "we ll waste resources for a useless animal, that s not how we do things here".
I’m not sure I’m ready for the prequel either but I’m excited! Nervous excitement perhaps. I was thrilled to see that one of my favourite GOT cast members will be in this new movie!!!
Lowkey, snow was a great antagonist- and if you think on it he did what he had to but also he understood people which is why he was so good. Something clearly ruined him - and I’m so siked for the prequel - he’s pretty awesome as a character but I’m sure they’ll make us like him and see what happened with him. Katniss with 16 in the first movie and the second one was set a year later so she was 17 and then Mockingjay was immediately after catching fire so she's 17 Also the prequel is set when snow is about her age when the 10th annual hunger games is going on and believe me they were so much more brutal back then believe it or not this monster is the reason the tributes are treated 'humanely' in the capital
You could totally see the movie in theaters - it’ll be amazing don’t deprive yourself. Nothing compares to going in with the fandom and watching on the big screen. And then also film a reaction if you’d like and just speak your thoughts (you may pick up more things upon rewatch:)
Will forever not understand how the people in the cafeteria were angry at peeta for speaking on behalf of the capital when they should know how horrible snow is. In the books they were threatening to kill his family if he didn’t say what they told him even though his family were already killed then And also Gale thinks he’s big and bad just cause he took some lashings but if they threatened his family he would do the same as Peeta
In books he saved his family too. There was a scene in cafeteria between Gale’s sister and on of the stylist. Also there was some others District 12 citizens that saved

One of the things the books didnt do that i like that the movie did is have Effie. I havent read the books in a while but i believe that she was killed in the books after Katniss escaped .
I know this comment is going to be years late but try watching the behind the scenes of MJ1 and MJ2 since they filmed the scenes back to back, J-Law even said she can’t even say parts of it since it’s not in order that they film them. It’s almost 2 hours long but so good you get to see how they do their fight/action scenes in all of the entirety of the MJ films. You’ll understand everything so well. Highly recommend!

The fact that everybody looks at Gale's anger at what Peeta was saying as some angst over Katniss liking Peeta instead of what it IS! ANGER over seeing his home destroyed in front of him is just... WE know what Katniss and Peeta went through but everyone always overlooks what Gale went through seeing 12 destroyed, the guilt he carries not being able to do anything and save more people. Fleeing your damn home with bombs coming after you, if 13 hadn't helped them they would all be dead. Please stop trying to play it off as a Peeta jealousy thing. I would be mad too. We over here trying to get people to fight back and Peeta's words are just making them lose heart. Yes, we know he's being tortured but the damage is still being done. I actually think Peeta and Katniss are more compatible but I've NEVER cared for this love-triangle shit they pull in this movie, especially when it was barely anything at all in the books. It cheapens the very heavy themes in this movie. Like I feel for Gale and people always boil his actions down to 'ah, he's jealous of Peeta'. Yeah, sure, it's that. Snow took away the one choice Peeta had, to always be himself. What the capitol did to Peeta is so incredibly twisted. His story is one of the sadest. He lost everything other than Katniss, he lost his home, his family, and even in a way his self.
I absolutely hated Gale when he called Peeta a coward. Saying "i would never say that". really sir🤦🏽♀so youre saying that if they said "unless you say this in front of the camera, we are going to kill your entire family and bomb your district (which is what actually what they said to Peeta)" youre telling me that you would still refuse. I highly doubt that😤. also, he is only saying that cuz its Peeta, I KNOW IT
Knowing Gale’s character, I think he would still refuse to cooperate, but that’s not a point in his favor. I like that he stands up to tyranny but he’s definitely an “ends justify the means” type.
Honestly when I first read the book “mockingjay” then I was crying for peeta but now when I watched the movie I was BAWLING for him. 😭

A lot of reactors have this same question and frustration with Katniss not wanting to help the rebellion because they didn't save Peeta, so here it is: she doesn't know how she feels about Peeta, just that he is important to her for multiple reasons. Her driving force in refusing to help is that they are trying to use her. She doesn't care about the revolution in the beginning, all she cares about is keeping her loved ones safe. Peeta is in that category and the fact that the rebellion basically played her and left him to the capitol makes her angry. Because ultimately, the rebellion doesn't care about her family or what she wants, they want her image to unite the districts. It's basically the way that the capitol treated her, like a pawn. So even if it's a good cause in the end they don't actually care about Katniss, they care about what she can do for them.
I remember and seeing this in theaters SHOOK when they showed the aftermath of 12. I know it isn't surprising given the series but, something about it was more than what I expected.
I still get full body chills every time I watch that scene. It’s just so horrific and sickening.

I absolutely love this movie it’s my second favorite in the collection but it’s probably because it’s the only movie where katniss and peeta have no on screen time together besides him trying to kill her

The song Katniss sang that they end up showing Peeta etc etc, is actually a song written by Lucy Gray Baird! Fun fact, she was Snows tribute and Snow ended up falling in love with her, but something ended up happening between them so they never ended up being together. When you think about it, Snow was probably ENRAGED when Katniss sang the song by HIS lover, which is likely when Snow decided to torture and manipulate him worse than he had been before because he knew it would hurt Katniss even more if Peeta was back but not himself.
Loving this. Katniss was 16 in the first book. Catching Fire, she was 17. half way through Mockingjay she was 18. But I feel like in the movies they aged her up, so in the first movie she was 17, in the second movie she was 18, and close to the end of Part 2 she was 19.
Coin creeped me out so much, Julianne Moore was such an interesting choice and she killed it tbh
Finnick’s story is so much sadder when you realize he was the youngest Hunger Games victor at age 14. So right after he won, he was forced to sell his body. That poor man didn’t deserve any of this 😭
The cat request is actually rather funny in the books. In the book it was the first thing she asked about and it sparked a conflict between the 13th and the capitol rebels present at that meeting. The capitol people (more like people that have been spies in the capitol for years after joining the rebellion) saw that as a non issue like "what do you mean, of course you can keep your cat" and the 13th people started to be like "we ll waste resources for a useless animal, that s not how we do things here".

Lowkey, snow was a great antagonist- and if you think on it he did what he had to but also he understood people which is why he was so good. Something clearly ruined him - and I’m so siked for the prequel - he’s pretty awesome as a character but I’m sure they’ll make us like him and see what happened with him.

Will forever not understand how the people in the cafeteria were angry at peeta for speaking on behalf of the capital when they should know how horrible snow is. In the books they were threatening to kill his family if he didn’t say what they told him even though his family were already killed then

In books he saved his family too. There was a scene in cafeteria between Gale’s sister and on of the stylist.

One of the things the books didnt do that i like that the movie did is have Effie. I havent read the books in a while but i believe that she was killed in the books after Katniss escaped .
I know this comment is going to be years late but try watching the behind the scenes of MJ1 and MJ2 since they filmed the scenes back to back, J-Law even said she can’t even say parts of it since it’s not in order that they film them. It’s almost 2 hours long but so good you get to see how they do their fight/action scenes in all of the entirety of the MJ films. You’ll understand everything so well. Highly recommend!

The fact that everybody looks at Gale's anger at what Peeta was saying as some angst over Katniss liking Peeta instead of what it IS! ANGER over seeing his home destroyed in front of him is just... WE know what Katniss and Peeta went through but everyone always overlooks what Gale went through seeing 12 destroyed, the guilt he carries not being able to do anything and save more people. Fleeing your damn home with bombs coming after you, if 13 hadn't helped them they would all be dead. Please stop trying to play it off as a Peeta jealousy thing. I would be mad too. We over here trying to get people to fight back and Peeta's words are just making them lose heart. Yes, we know he's being tortured but the damage is still being done. I actually think Peeta and Katniss are more compatible but I've NEVER cared for this love-triangle shit they pull in this movie, especially when it was barely anything at all in the books. It cheapens the very heavy themes in this movie. Like I feel for Gale and people always boil his actions down to 'ah, he's jealous of Peeta'. Yeah, sure, it's that. Growing up poor, getting whipped at a stake, seeing your entire home destroyed and barely escaping with your life, sure, no trauma to speak of there. And yes, the Hanging Tree is a bop.

I remember thinking that Mockingjay was my favorite book but Catching Fire was my favorite film - but man, that's hard to say because this one is so good! The source material obviously helps - and the fact that this movie might honestly have had not just the best soundtrack of the series, but of all movies ever.
