Thank you Justin..a great song..I have many memories singing this with my best mate after many beers over the years. It's now poignant to me as my mate died from covid aged 50 a couple of years ago..will always think of him when I hear it.
God gave us music and he gave you a voice and what a beautiful one he gave you, thank you for using it. You please a lot of people and that pleases God
Just listen and close your eyes... the timbre of Justin Currie's voice, like a beautiful aged, solid wood, acoustic guitar, has really improved with age.
+Pat Robins For me the best lyric is... "American business men snapping up Van Gough's for the price of a hospital wing".... Hammer on the nail......the society today....
Not sure it's in the list of greatest songs ever written but he definitely undervalues it here. Obviously a humble guy. You'd be hard pushed to find someone who didn't like the song though
An incredible tune that made some kind of sense back in the day with lyrics Nothing ever happens.....Now with phones All kinds of shit happens everyday and it doesn't even need to be close! Holy Fuck please take me back to these days when nothing ever happened! Brilliant live performance Justin, it takes me back to better times.
Let me please be the first to say that this song holds so many memories for me. It's one of the only songs from the 90's? That I still play today. But I just love it. Justin you are an amazing songwriter. I love this. xxx
It'd be nice if one day we could listen and think I'm so glad we changed. You want songs like this to be a reminder of what we were, not what we still are.
Without doubt one of the best songs ever written. The lyrics applied then and apply now. Nothing ever happened. The needle has returned to the start of our song since the day this song was released.
An all time favorite song of mine. A little sad, a little depressive, but most of all a little diamond among all other songs. This particular performance is imho very special for Justin varies the pitch of some lines very interesting. Thanks for sharing the video with us!
HOW RELEVANT.......we will all be longer tonight and Lonely tomorrow... FANTASTIC WORLD CLASS BAND ...DEL AMITRI ... THE GUVNORS .....has he kept his voice or what ... listen kids THIS IS MUSIC ....
Can't write a story song my bottom; what about Be My Downfall, Spit in the Rain, Always the Last to Know, to name but a few of his awesome story songs. Come on now Justin :-) We love you, fess up!
Amazing, a timeless and classic song. It's also interesting how you can hear faint melodies from the original track that aren't there! Or I can anyway. :)
Great live version of this song. Very true lyrics too. The part where he sings " They'll burn down the synagogues at six o'clock and we'll all go along like before " could be applied to war in general and to how people support wars and invasions even today after so many past wars. They support wars in an ignorant way when the only thing they know about them is a daily miror headline sayin "support our troups" regardless of what horrible invasions they are involved in. Nothing ever happens indeed
How Fuckin relevant in March 2020 .. I have always LOVED DEL AMITRI .. because there the BOLLOCKS and as I was born in 1970 I was in my prime .... this song , band AND VOICE has only matured Like GOOD WINE AND CHEESE .. there will be none of that left soon either ... IM MEAN WTF .. but hay .... TIME KEEPS ON SLIPPING INTO THE FUTURE.. LETS ROLL ANOTHER ONE AND SEE WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS ... nothing ever happens really ANYWAY ...THINK ABOUT IT .. peace planet EARTH 🌏..
Got an interpretation: The song quite literally describes the monotone and repetitive nature of people's daily lives, where "nothing ever happens". In this world each day equals the next for which the "cameras in department stores shoot the same movie every day", while the employees are "the stars of these films [who] neither die nor get killed" - they only live on just like in a "constant action replay". All the while it is stressed, that this daily routine does not make anyone happy, as "we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow". Each repeated day ends the same when "everything's dead and every third car is a cab and ignorant people sleep in their beds like the doped white mice in the college lab". Being compared to those doped lab mice shows the controlled behavior the song implies for the modern man, who does not seem to understand anything about this unchanging world he lives in, as "the needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before". The consumer-oriented economy is criticized as "bill hoardings advertise products that nobody needs" and our money being only "values of copper and tin". Even the Kristallnacht of Nazi Germany is mentioned as "they'll burn down the synagogues at six o'clock" - but having nothing learned "we'll all go along like before". With this the endless cycle of ignorance, consumerism and war is completely described and ready to begin a new - as "we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow". Thus proving the fact that "Nothing Ever Happens" and the world remains the same.
One of the most self denigrating introductions ever. A list song? This lyric is a bold comment on modern self satisfaction and social indolence. It is still relevant today as it was then. Dylan never came close to this. Well done Justin.
Thank you Justin..a great song..I have many memories singing this with my best mate after many beers over the years. It's now poignant to me as my mate died from covid aged 50 a couple of years ago..will always think of him when I hear it.
His voice has not changed in all times. Best wishes Anthony o Callaghan Ireland
God gave us music and he gave you a voice and what a beautiful one he gave you, thank you for using it. You please a lot of people and that pleases God
Still listening in 2020... what a timeless piece of music and it's lyrics still relevant now.
Yeh same. This tune is just so bang on for this moment in time we're living in... the true measure of good music is how timeless it is.
Even MORE relevant now in 2022
Just listen and close your eyes... the timbre of Justin Currie's voice, like a beautiful aged, solid wood, acoustic guitar, has really improved with age.
I like the word timbre ! Good work !

Humble, but it is a list, catchy though
One my favourite songs ever, that Van Gogh lyric wow.
Lyrically, this has to be one of the best songs ever written.

This guy’s voice is incredible. It’s even better live than it is recorded.
I have been lucky enough to see him live a few times, and he is absolutely brilliant. His voice is just terrific.
Listening to this live version for the first time, and I totally agree!
As the decades go by the truths in this brilliant piece ring louder and more sadly in my mind. It would be nice if one day we could change the song.
It'd be nice if one day we could listen and think I'm so glad we changed. You want songs like this to be a reminder of what we were, not what we still are.
You nailed it.
Genuinely spellbound, still!
This song is, and will remain, a classic.
Justin is a poet 😊
you made my day, my night, my month, my year.... you made my life
Beautiful song
20 years old but still sums up what is bad in the modern world.
His voice has got better with age.. sounds as awesome now than originally did!
He's right up there with Bob Marley, Fukin fantastic
Perhaps this song could be re released for 2021. Its more relevant now than It has ever been.
I’ve been a fan for 25 years and Justin writes amazing catchy tunes I still revisit all the time. They are a part of me x
I put on this accoustic version and play the accordion part along with it,this is what accordions are for, great song !
Without doubt one of the best songs ever written. The lyrics applied then and apply now. Nothing ever happened. The needle has returned to the start of our song since the day this song was released.
So apt for 2020
Stunning voice. At best with an acoustic.

My God, the first time I heard Kiss This Thing Goodbye in 89, I felt like it told my story as if it was written for me at that very moment in my life.
Wow, superb performance of a great song, looking forward to their new material next year!
