Thanks Rod….I took the ferry from Cebu to Dumaguete a few years back and I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the bus ride from Dumaguete to Cebu. We had air on the bus and I love it because I could look out my window and see everything without driving….
I talked to a diver on the ferry and he said there are many very good dive sights that the average tourist will never see John. Got to know the right people.
Most modern hotels built for the past 35 years have the low voltage switch in the door/jamb keeper. The last big high-rise, the Swan Dolphin at Disney, had us installing these on the glass patio sliders going onto the balconies. We laughed because the penthouse units rented for 5 to 15k US/night in 1990 and had those switches on all exterior doors as well. And we finished the first 3 floors and then jumped to the to top floors because they we already in high demand and booked for for years.
Really nice video Rod, thanks for taking us along. I didn’t know you could get a bus all the way to Dumaguete, we caught a trike on the other side, it was quite a long ride. I enjoyed the ferry ride from Dumaguete to Bohol. I hope you get the passport sorted out ok.
Good adventure Rod. I lived in Sibulan for about 10 months. Dumaguete, if it's still top rated it's only because none of the writers who made it so have not checked on it in 15 years. It's no longer what it once was. It has more hospitals malls and traffic. More expensive lodging and I'm willing to wager they still dump sewage by the boardwalk and the municipal dump still catches fire and burns for half a year or more. If I were to have to live on Negros for any reason, I would choose Bayawan City. One really could live in Dumaguete 2006 through 2009 or so. Then it started going downhill. Take care.
@Robert Kubrick & @Amazing Philippines I currently live in Bayawan City. I really like it here, as it is not as large as Dumaguete and all it’s suburbs. Bayawan is growing, though. This year they installed five, five mind you, traffic lights on the National Highway in preparation for future growth. The city fathers are really spending money on good looking infrastructure like putting side walks with curbs along the entire boulevard. They moved the Friday/Saturday vegetable market from the middle of the boulevard to the circle end of the street. A lot of empty lots are filling up with new businesses. My wife ran across a video of Bayawan from over twenty years ago. The town was a sleepy little village with few cars and few houses in the video. Lots of open spaces that are now filled with buildings. Even though the town is growing I like Bayawan. The people are friendly, there are some really nice beaches, and some of the mountain views are stunning. Inflation is making itself felt here in the Philippines. Gasoline has doubled in two years, and food is about 40% more. Just another business cycle gone awry.

@@anthonykeller5120 Thanks for the report. Bayawan City would be a sweet spot, like Dumaguete was in 2006-7 before Dumaguete trippled in daily population, not just those who live in the city but those who commute every day. Not that Dumaguete is a large city by any standards, it's just that they don't have the infrastructure for a city half it's size. I'm glad to hear that Bayawan City is forward looking. Naga City Camarines Sur where my home is is pretty nice, much cleaner than Dumaguete and twice the size but they are falling behind on infrastructure a little right now but I will be long gone before it gets as bad as Dumaguete is now, if it ever does.
@@AmazingPhilippines1 When I lived around Duma Rod, I was on a forum and forum members did an analysis of the articles. All but one or two writers of the articles had never been to Dumaguete. For 20 years, they had been cribbing from the original article. Take care.
My day trip on Cokalion ferry years ago had many bunks and most were laying down while I was roaming around for 5 hours taking video and even saw a couple dolphins John.
We were never asked for anything other than an ID Michael. at bus, ferry, or hotels, even though there were still a couple of signs still up stating vax needed.
Hi Rod hope all is well I am arriving in cebu November 24 for 6 weeks i thought you might be able to give couple of pointers regarding an apartment rental areas let's say about the $ 350 per month +/- WRm regards.
Are there signs on the bus so that you know which town the ferry it rides departs from? I remember this happened to Gio also when they went from Bacolod to Iloilo. Their ferry didn't leave and arrive directly from Bacolod to Iloilo. Instead it departed and arrived in towns farther north from Bacolod and to Iloilo so their trip took longer.
Next week a few of are going for a ride (six of us with our wifes), to Bohol via Arago on a roro. I'm having trouble trying to find out what the cost is for motorcycle, and passenger.
Got the message there about the incorrect spelling of Arlene.LoL. Not surprised Rod, we have a couple of young ladies in our family who had been registered as 'Male', on their birth certificates. Discovered when said ladies were to apply for passports. This mistake was apparently made by the midwifes who delivered them as babies. It's a big deal and long wait for the details to be altered at Manila. Plus there is a fee. I won't say what i'm thinking, LoL.
Interesting trip, Rod, Thanks. Was all the c-word travel nonsense of passes and questionnaires and test requirements gone, or were there still some residual foolishness required to get from point A to point B?
PASSPORT There are FIXERS that sell the appointments that's why there are no available slots in Cebu. UNLESS YOU PAY TO PLAY !! 3500 pesos makes you VIP !!!
5:56 you should report the 43 pesos.. its not like that.. as a cebuano i dont give a damn.. i will not give them 43 pesos my ass.. that 43 pesos is for the boys casually before you enter or before you ride the bus there is a terminal fee and thats it that 43 pesos is a scam i doubt you are the only one or you both have gave them 43 pesos because you are a foreigner? am i right? if im with your situation i will question them 43 pesos for what? i dont give you 43 pesos ..there is no such thing like that there is a terminal fee and a fare thats it!

I agree Marc, I love seeing the country from a ferry or bus.
Thanks for the video and the sites.
Thanks James. We could have set a DFA appt in Bacolod also but she chose Dumaguete. I want to spend more time in Bacolod next year probably.
Our next trip we may explore Dumaguete more this time. Some great scuba diving in the area.
You all need to stop in here on your way.

@@1951Ford when we go we'll fly into Cebu and spend a few days in Cebu City before heading out, so a day trip to Moalboal can happen for sure 👍
Very informative, thanks. Might be taking the same trip. Leaving my opinion open

Thanks Tom. Home now and recuperating. Travel is exhausting.

It has been a learning experience Brian. 3 different ports/piers on the south of Cebu. The trip we were on added 1 hour of travel time.

Another informative video, Rod! I think I would go for the p3k option and take a plane.
I probably will next time also. That 6-7 hour trip is rather boring after doing it a few times already.
I took a similar trip. From south terminal to moalboal then to dumaguete then to oslob and back to cebu city
One of these days I'd like to take the ferry Cebu to Dumaguete and Cebu to Iloilo

One has to ask for details. I had the same experience once going around the long northern route, but it was okay with me as I saw more of the island.

I think all buses now have speed sensors and sound an alarm over the speed limit Denys so not quite as crazy as before.
