Them kids have a brilliant sense of humour. “You won one game last year, what did you think that was down to?” “Football” 🤣 “Do you want to be a professional?” “Not if the shirts are this big” 😂
I played for a under thirteen football team back in 1977 and we used to lose almost every game but at least by being the goalkeeper I got plenty of action by the opposition and it kept me warm on those cold Sunday winters mornings..😂
And my god those winter mornings in 1980s left me like an icicle - I am genuinely surprised I didn't get hypothermia from playing football. Kids these days have it easy with global warming and performance textiles!
Nationwide was such a wonderful programme. The journalists' contributions, the filming, the gentle pace of the editing... so much more appealing than the frantic attention-seeking of so many of today's programmes.
These kids remind me of myself. I was useless at Footie and still am. Even my nephews and nieces don't want me in their teams coz I'm so useless at footie. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game." I myself have been an unsuccessful singer and musician for over 40 years. Some happy memories. Some, not so. Still, good on them 👏
@metjovi That's very nice of you, thank you. I tried to make a career out of music, and it wasn't meant to be, but true, I still enjoy it. It's therapeutic for me. My wife, on the other hand, has needed another type of therapy. I think it was when I took up playing the tin whistle. It did stretch the friendship. Kind regards.
@@jasonayres I see. We all have our highs and lows, but don't take for granted what music has given to you. Mental health and joy are as important as money, if not more. I bet your musical skills have filled your soul with great moments. You are more successful than you think. Nice talk. Cheers.
Lovely opener. In The first four seconds you can see a kick and hope hoof, a subsequent missed header, one lad kick the ball into his own face, a hand ball, and an absent keeper.
1st second of the video is an indication of whats to come - ball into the box, striker volleys it into his own face 😂 but fair play to the manager ' as long as they are enjoying it and are happy I'm happy!' What a name their sriker had ' Austin Beauville' Made for stage and screen!
I was a similar age to those lads at the time this was filmed and much like them I was awful at football, also, cricket, rugby, athletics, swimming, tennis, table tennis, basketball...
They'll all be about 64 now.... Hardly believable they the whole team are either pensioners or just about to retire. This video (remarkably good quslity) was 49 years ago.
Kudos to the manager and the kids for keeping spirits high.

They're getting exercise, making friends and have a great sense of humour ... be great to see what they're up to now.
And not on the streets getting into trouble!
@@nellyfett2681well not for 90 mins every Sunday anyway
That's a modern day malaise...back then if you wanted to succeed, you needed to care..
Kind of inspiring honestly
Goalkeeper had a Peter Shilton Admiral shirt - must cost a fortune now, specially in red (I only saw it on white).
That's great to see spirits still so high. Good lads

I feel like I'm watching a Monty Python sketch. Especially with the voiceover style
"when you got it you got it"
Philosphers' Football
Ah football. Small boys, jumpers for goalposts. Marvellous isn't it? Isn't it?

Great kids, brilliant attitudes.
That music during the match is brilliant.
The enthusiasm is present within the team. That’s a good start. 🙂
Those kids are in their 60s now !
I wonder how many will see this.

good on ya. check the lads in west papua, singing is still worth something there.
What do you mean by unsuccessful? If you're still doing it after 40 years it means you're having fun and that's a success to me.

Bbc archives is so much more interesting than bbc 2024. Just report, no agenda pushing silliness.
Fry and Laurie’s inspiration for their football coach sketch, never seen it before
Fair play to the lads. They enjoyed it, and that's what it's all about. Wonder what they are doing now 🤔
If I was to guess, not football!
I was in a team that scored 5 and conceded 111 in 22 games u-13
Good lads, good comradery, bet they were buzzing with their win!

Theyd still be able to score against André Onana
Good bunch of lads :)
I never knew Bryan Ferry coached footy! @1:47😅
Can we get them some nets?
Yeah, a couple of those goals looked a bit dodgy from our angle😂
Was all I was thinking
Good lads, fair play to em

I wonder what the team that lost to them felt like😂
Of course, it’s easy to forget that nets weren’t invented until 1977.
Fun fact the the striker is current record holder in caps for england

Spurs development squad.
Brilliant
Where's the nets!
Isnt the goalie in red luke littler
They didn’t have to do the goalie like that
The other lot look like Palace
Team talk: git aht there an' fackin' ran arahnd!!!
This is awesome! These kids are so cool! They couldn’t care less! Hahahaha
The days when everyone who played with kids look like they play with balls
Pero siguen siendo mejores que el débil México.

Man City
Disgraceful, there should have been a warning at the beginning of the video regarding the hairstyles
Their was it did say 1975 at the start
Yeah, they've all got slightly long hair. MAD!
gel companies will go bancrupt this must be stoped
Far better than today's over-styled hair. Much more natural back then.
Is this American Samoa?
