I got married and bought my first home at age 24 in 1985. Sure my mortgage rate was high at 9.8 % and the sale price was $120 k in NJ , but it was doable and I did it.
I have talked to so many people in their mid 20s and even early 30s that want to get married and buy their own first home, and they just cant. Like me they work hard aand do the right things but they just cant afford it.
That same house, my first starter home is now listed for $875,0000.00 and the interest rates are over 7.5%
No way that same 24 year old is buying that house and getting married.
Several years ago, I googled the address of the house I grew up in (‘50s-‘60s) in Massachusetts. It had been sold for $1.1 million. This was in a blue-collar city that at one time you wouldn’t want people to know you were from! Now, all these years later, I couldn’t afford to live in the house I grew up in 60+ years ago.
My brother who's 55 couldn't even buy in our County where we grew up he moved across the River and now he's moving to new Hampshire
