Besides Taekwondo, Bren learned two of other Korean martial arts, Hapkido & Hwarangdo, so all the weapon skills with sword & pole/stick in this video came from those two types of martial arts.
He performs two kicks, but makes them look like one. It is really hard to see his foot position on the first one because he is very fast, but his hip position signifies a jump spinning round-house with the right leg, followed by a spinning hook kick (aka spinning heel kick) with the left. Obviously both are done before he lands, so he spins about 720 degrees in the air. Pretty impressive.
He is almost exactly the shape I prefer to be in. I never have been, but that's my goal. Getting bulky just to look pumped is stupid imo. It just impairs your movement as you just said.
I wanna have a body like him...but i want a ripped 6 pack...check out jean claide van damme he is quite flexible for his body too...specially wi his legs
He is a fantastic athlete, have to give it to him. He is clean in his movements, knows what he's doing and makes it all look effortless. He is great at what he does.
@@michaelee1989 hey it’s me, this is my new acc haha. he wasn’t really my master but he was the owner of the taekwondo place i went to so he was sorta the highest up so that’s why 10 year old me said that he was my master haha
It has never been about a single or even ANY style of martial art. It is about the will, intention, ideals that strengthen the heart, and the art of dedication. To me that has much more to do with true strength than whether or not someone may have the ability to grapple on the ground.
What I meant was that modern taekwondo is not good at close range because of the limitations of the sparring. Real Taekwondo has a very intricate hand striking system and it is highly effective. The problem is that most practitioners these days only focus on the kicks and completely ignore the hand strikes because only punches to the body are allowed in most TKD sparring matches.
I dont understand why people don't respect a persons hard work, every time its not about fighting like animals , becoming a martial artist of fosters caliber needs years of devotion & commitment whereas becoming a professional mma fighter also calls for a lot of perseverance, every world class athlete deserves to be respected , people talking trash about such talented athletes are nothing more than trolls ..
@@jewellui bruh, dude if you get bulky by steroids there is no fucking way you can be that agile it's very clear he went slow pace to have such an explosive muscle groups with that size also the fact that he should always take enchanters to supply oxygen to muscles if not trained naturally.
Oh I entirely understand but what I was saying is that that kind of training (ie competition training) can build tunnel vision which traditional or non-competition training often does not and it can take a greater degree of concious effort for a competition fighter to overcome this. On the whole, I think we've just managed something very impressive, we've reached a mutual decision in the TH-cam comments section, that's gotta be a first or something
(1) Original TKD : Training of body/mind ( from child to adult ) (2) Olympic TKD : Sparring for entertaining ( player ) (3) Applied TKD : Using weapon ( master , special force )
Those who always complaint are good at nothing. It will take years of discipline to show this level of acrobatic skills. This is not about self defense but just a small demonstration of what you'll get.
I am in taekwondo now. I gotta say i agree with you. Yes, the main focus is on kicks but my school (WTF) teaches things such as Hapkubi (pressure points defense etc) as well.
I like how his lower body is where Tae-kwon-do is at it's most effectice, the kicks. The upper body is usually where it lacks but there he put in sword skills! Explicit, I love it!
I think it is a silly argument to be frank, but there is a big difference between WTF and ITF approach to the martial art. There is an entirely different mindset involved, and the reflexes trained in both streams have some major differences. WTF prepares its students for sports competitions and their entire sparing and training system is designed for that. ITF prepare its students as real life fighters (at least that's what they are supposed to do), the result is 2 different types of TKD.
Taekwondo is originally not for a killing martial art but for training of body/mind. Taekwondo generally had not used swords except special case. That just seems like the special case or application of other martial art(Hapgido etc)
I understand your point and agree... it seems I can't find the right words to say what I want, so my bad... I was only trying to say that fighters who's martial art is based on ground fighting could easily overcome a tkd fighter on the ground and vice versa... nothing else
being a TKD black belt myself, i have learnt to use weapons. And Bren Foster's techniques are clearly from TKD. There might be some element of other martial arts but he claims himself as a TKD practioner. He's on the TKD headquarters list anyway. so...
@DeathMetalPwnsXD He's not a fighter, He's a martial artist, that's why you see him doing so much flips and weapons show. He is a complete martial artist in all the extension of the word, he actually fought in Thailand under Muay Thai rules, he also practices Kung Fu, wrestling, and BJJ. I think he also teaches self defense, i'm not sure which MA, maybe KM but idk
Hapkido also uses various kicks and sweeps (like most Korean styles), but using them sepparately defeats the purpose of using each martial art's best aspect. The best martial artist is one who can flawlessly combine many styles (of course he has to be good at those styles too). Combining the kicking arsenals of both TKD and Hapkido, the low attacks and joint locks of Hapkido, and both hand strike arsenals would aslo result in another deadly fighting style.
I agree with your comment, but just remember that there is no Olympic style of Taekwondo; there is an Olympic style of Taekwondo SPARRING. The sparring that you see at the Olympics is only one aspect of Taekwondo. For the dojangs that only emphasize sparring, they are indeed misguided.
I get really pissed off when people say that TaeKwonDo is a wimp sport. When they do, I send them a link to this video. I have three role models in terms of Martial Arts. My cousin firstly, an International Junior World Champion, Bren Foster, and he may be an actor, but he is real, Bruce Lee. I encourage perseverance and someday I will go to the Olympics. I am currently 14 and I am a red belt.
South Korean schools train very well and if you want to learn TKD for real street application you should definitely do ITF TKD and not Olympic stile. It is true that the type of training used determines a lot of the results which was part of what I said earlier. I train by myself these days because I was not pleased with the way the club i used to train with conducted their classes, but in the period of 6 years I spent there I learned a lot and i did learn how to fight for real.
People who say that TKD sucks should see this video. Seriously, I hate it when people run their mouth on various martial arts. It aint the particular style that makes the difference, it is the effort invested in the training. While some techniques might be more difficult and require more time then others, they still work once mastered. UFC/MMA is not a meter for the efficiency of various martial arts because arts like Karate and TKD were designed for real life fighting not ring and points.
Bruce lee practiced Wing Chun and later founded Jeet Kune Do from Yip man. These are completely different styled from taekwondo but this is a common misconception because in most of Bruce lee's movies, his style resembles taekwondo because is was more appealing to the audience with flashy kicks.

One, I doubt you could combine those: different approach. Totally. But having boxing under one's belt would be useful. TKD actually includes plenty of hand/arm techniques for close-quarters combat, so close range is OK, if taught and studied properly. Boxing won't teach you to break the collarbone wither with a strike or by digging your fingers in around it and pulling suddenly. If that's not effective, I don't know what is.
