This is what Robin Guthrie does better than anyone else - He's a Sonic Architect... !!! You're experiencing, "Cathedral's of Shaped Sound" as one magazine said it. Layers of arpeggiation, delay, reverb in chorus, or flanger in modulation; suffice it to say there is more music terminology than can be listed. However, some of it was "invented" by Robin Guthrie, himself. If you were lucky enough to attend a Cocteau Twins concert, you'd notice Robin and Simon switching different guitars between songs, as each one was tuned and modified differently; also along with, up to five or seven more back-up guitarist's, even if their job was to play two or three notes. Robin hid nothing from the audience, which is what made the prerecorded "beat-box" so famous from their video's, which later became gigantic server, that was placed on stage as well. I think it's amazing that Robin, Elizabeth, and Simon had such fearful stage-fright, they couldn’t hardly move or barely look at the audience, but the music always felt like you were being held in God’s arms. So, when people say things like: "What have the Cocteau Twins ever contributed to my life?" I'll reply, "Do you ever listen to music? If you do, then you are listening to Robin Guthrie's contributions. You just don't realize it...!!!" Like it or not, Robin Guthrie is the “Grand-Master” of electric guitar, whose tutored many now famous, guitar hero's like, "The Edge" from U2, "Flea" of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Christian Savill of Slowdive and the list continues, on and on. My only wish, now, is for Elizabeth Fraser to finally forgive Robin, so the Cocteau Twins could produce some more music with Simon Raymonde. That's why they made the Bella Union Recording Label, in the first place, it was suppose to be their sanctuary; but, thank the Heavens for Simon. It was Simon who expanded the label to keep it going, and now Bella Union Recording Label has won the Best Independent Label Award for 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and they've now expanded to the United States. They have singed on bands on like Beach House and so many more bands, who wouldn’t be here, if, Elizabeth had not coined the term “Dream-pop”. Plus, add the bands personal fears, which made people think they were looking at their shoes all the time - into Shoe gazing hence “Shoegaze”. All I want is more, so it's all - "Between the Blue Moon's or Spain... !!!"
Yes, it was intriguing to see Robin Guthrie practically bring a studio on the stage with him, when playing live. And, yes he's a fantastic, sonic architect and a very good producer as well.
Quite simply, Robin is a Genius 🎸🎶😎😍👏
These visuals are perfect for Guthrie's music
