    Stephen Roche was one of my cycling heroes when I first started bike racing in the US.

    Between January and July of 1993, Irish cyclist Stephen Roche was regularly administered doses of the performance-enhancing drug erythropoietin (better known as EPO) by the doctor of his Italian cycling team, Carrera, according to an Italian judge.

    Stephen Roche found himself in the same situation as Greg lemon did back in 1985 with Bernard hinault,supporting and riding for the leader, when you are a obviously a better rider

    • @EMC2Scotia
      @EMC2Scotia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In '85, Hinault was clearly the best rider up until the crash at St. Etienne. If he could get thru the Pyrenees well protected by his team, then it was justified he be given the support he received. That and it would be a very brave DS to give Lemond the green light at Luz Ardiden (if GL had've ridden, he would've left himself open to be counter-attacked by Roche) and deny him a 5th Tour win. It wasn't the case Lemond was better, just that he obeyed team orders. Roche knew his chances to win 3 week Tours were going to be few and far between (after '87 he was never even close), so behaving ethically was not an option.

    Some of the comments about this man are absolutely appalling. It puzzles me why Indurain , Hinault and Lemon who were clearly doing what past pelotons were doing haven’t been questioned or examined at all. A certain selection of cyclist have been crucified years after they retired, while others are held up as being heroes while there are vasts amounts of data and evidence to suggest they were doping too.
    Usain Bolt was never questioned although the Jamaican anti-doping Committee is questionable to put it mildly. Also international rugby needs to be examined in the worst possible way.

    Let's see: in the Giro he attacks his teammate, the designated leader; in the Tour, Stage 19, he attacks Yellow Jersey Jean Francois Bernard in a feed zone, and in the World's he attacks Sean Kelly in the finale. I think we see a pattern.

    • @BillyBob-yb5ht

      He was a much better rider what shouldn’t he attack. Good point who have made there 👍

    One of these days at one of these meaningless events they'll get Visentini in so this discussion can be balanced out by Visentini's version of events. Roche has been able to pretty much say what he likes ever since 1987.
