Some people are still putting those hinges on stamps these days. I saw a collector showing how he puts them on stamps here on TH-cam. It only serves to cause future problems. Nice tip.
Tbf, who builds their album with the forethought of it being pulled apart later on? I build mine in the hope I make a pretty enough one so that when I return to the dust someone decides to build on it instead of ripping it apart, although personally I don't hinge anything that hasn't been posted or previously mounted as then the hinges can just be soaked off like any bit of paper with no damage.... I do find myself hoping there is a special circle of hell for people who hinge mints and those that refuse to state they have been hinged previously when purchasing online MNH✌🤣
Thank you for this excellent video, it's made taking the albums apart a lot less intimidating!! Could I ask for your advice on what to do with mint stamps, can I use this or a similar technique? I have recently inherited my Mother's large and very disorganized stamp collection, so I am trying to put it in order, but don't want to risk damaging the stamps in the process. Any advice that you could offer would be greatly appreciated!!
Great tip. Recently started transferring stamps out of a very old paperback album I started as a kid. Most are attached with hinges. Cringe when I see where I used a rolled piece of old clear tape. The kind that severely browns over time. 😳 This will be very handy.
I once saw an album that had the stamps taped in..... and not even like you and many others did with the backside loop, nope full on taped down completely 🤣 My mum's old album was mounted with looped tape too, that was..... "fun" to sort out
Nice tongs and techinque, but you just put your fingers all over your stamps. They're probably not worth much, but people might get the idea that it's okay to use your fingers for something like this.
Much obliged on your very good tutorial and explanations!
thank you very helpful is it possible to learn how repair glu behind of stamps?

Handy tip. I was actually going to use water, so you helped me avoid that. Thanks!

This method works for both mint & used stamps. As stated, practice on some inexpensive stamps first until you get proficient at it, Marios
Excellent tip, thank you!
Great. That is probably why the tongs ate designed that way. Thanks.

Amazing Information, Thanks.
it is a great tip. as I am now reprinting my stamp albums(50 years of scott international) this tip will help in the transfer. thanks so much
How'd it go? I'm about to do the same with some of mine ✌
How many years do you expect to live? Many more than I do it seems....

Looking to take apart my old collection, and was wondering the same thing. I'm wondering if people commonly use gloves?
Now you have glue left. How do you remove that
The whole point is to leave the original gum intact. You can always soak in water if you like
@@Ezstamp If it is a used stamp, I'd want the gum off.
Very Helpful.
Why not simply soaking instead?
Soaking in water will remove the original gum which will greatly affect value. Marios
@@Ezstamp I know I should have implied for stamps that are used and hinged
Why did people ever start hinging stamps if its so unpopular?
back in the old days, that was the only way to mount stamps. today, we have plastic mounts which to not affect the stamps.
@@Ezstamp Hinging stamps is an art. My hinges come right off. You need to use a good brand of hinge, and know how to do it.
But I never hinge mint stamps, that is what mounts are for.
Very helpfull!
Awsome. That you for that.
