I think part of the problem is they kept developing Will's relationship with Ben and didn't let him connect with the boys. I would've loved to see an episode where Joe and Hoss manage to pull Will (and Adam) into one of their wacky adventures. If Will had actually developed relationships with the boys he would've fit in on the ponderosa much better. So much potential wasted by only showcasing his relationship with Ben.
Absolutely! That was why I suggested he save Joe because he needs to feel like part of the team. I wish we had seen a little of them together when he was with Adam and Hoss in the beginning of "The Companeros". Joe goes to get him and will describes it to Ben later.
I guess I didn’t really note Will’s absence from those in-between episodes because there were many…many…episodes where a Cartwright, or two or three was absent. Re Will, I liked him. He was affable and fit with the others comfortably. He would never, in my eyes at least, have replaced PR, but a not-bad replacement if we had to have one. I will always think well of him for taking Laura off of Pernell’s hands. I thought they actually had some chemistry together. In the end, I would very much have liked to see Adam make an occasional appearance. But…married to someone more suitable.
I think it only becomes of note to me because they make the episodes he's in so much about him. Also they will usually say so-and-so is out of town if he's not there. I get over it easily because I don't watch them in order anyway. You're absolutely right, no one could replace Adam.
I haven't seen any of the Will episodes. I just really wish the show would have compromised with Pernell so that it could have been like your scenario. He shows up occasionally when he's needed but the rest of the time, we can assume he's with his own family.
Will 's personality did not like little Joe. Little Joe was very emotional , easy to laugh ,easy to tears and easy to become angry. While being stimulated ,Little Joe will respond very quickly in drawing gun or stretching out his fists. Little Joe's behaviour sometimes very childish. Will was mature , calm and well thinking. His personality actually was 90% like Adam. Will's appearance was smarter than Adam. Better looking face , better body shape and more look like a gentleman. He also travelled a lot and more understood the outside world . I like Will and think that it was a waste the production group did not let Will to stay with the Cartwright family after Adam's left. I believe Bonanza 's fans will welcome Will be a member of the Cartwright family. Of course , Will was only a cousin whereas Adam was the oldest brother who could not be replaced too. I also like Adam , his presence made the Cartwright brothers prefect.
