Great video, easy to follow and super-helpful. Purchased the same radio, and wired it up following your lead. Things are working well, except the radio - I plugged it into the second adapter you highlighted. Wifi seems good, though it disconnects on and off. The radio widget comes up, but no stations anywhere. I left the antenna piece inside the setup when I put it all back into the dash. Is there something else I should do with it, or am I missing anything? Thank you again.
Hey, thanks for the quick response. If I use the roadanvi launcher and click on Radio, the dial comes up correctly (like in your video). However, if I try to go to any station, it's just static. If I do a scan, it loops all the way around. Am happy to send you pics but they aren't very exciting :). Was thinking I'd try iheartradio as an alternative, but they don't have a ton of Phx stations (I'm in Az also). I did manage to turn off the annoying android bot that pops up with the 'Welcome Master' thing. Another quirk is that it launches to the Roadanvi home page then connects to android auto, so it's taking 20-25 secs to get settled. Hoping I can figure out how to skip the first part. Also, the buttons on the left hand side weren't working for me inside android auto. I have a Samsung S22 as my phone. Turns out you need to turn off the 'visibility settings' on the phone, then they worked like a charm. Found this on a reddit forum. Last, the backup camera is kind of grainy. I had four 'yellow' plugs total in my harness, and am thinking of trying other combos to see if it gets any better. None of them were helpfully labelled 'Camera', just Aux-1 and Aux-2, etc. Your video was super-helpful and made it not as daunting to do myself. Leaving this other info out there in case anyone else runs across these problems. I'd rather not have to run the antenna wire out and around somewhere, happy enough to leave it inside the console. Was thinking of switching out the antenna with the wifi antenna to see if that makes any difference, will let you know. Sorry for the long response, and thanks again.
Ah, I'm an idiot. Pulled it apart and had somehow missed the very large black 1/4 inch plug. Switched the antennas anyway, but that's probably a wash. Radio works like a charm now. Trying to figure out if I can somehow get that radio dial exposed in android auto but it's not terrible to flip over if I really want to. The backup cam is pretty grainy and pixelated, esp at night. I tried cleaning the camera and swapping around all the plugs, but only one combo works. It could be that it was always like that, and I just noticed because the screen is so much bigger - not sure there is a lot I can do about it. Thanks again for the video and the hellp.
@@markchauvin-r5l I'm glad you got it figured out. My backup camera actually shows a really nice picture when in reverse. There are 2 sizes to the screen. The larger size does distort the picture a bit. The smaller size looks pretty clear to me, at least comparing it to the OEM screen You can switch to the smaller screen by pressing the button on the top left as I did in the video 13:54. It switches from the bigger screen to the smaller screen automatically after the phone connects in Android Auto as well. At night, it is definitely a bit grainy. I think that may be due to the tail light reflection. I'm going to add some brighter LEDs in the back at some point and see if it helps with that night view.
Really like these units but the only thing I am concerned about is how does the phone sound at each end when you are recieving a call and can they other end har and understand you? Thanks for a really good video!
Thank you and sorry for the delayed response. I have no problem hearing people when they call. It does sound like it's more mono than stereo regarding sound depth. I've asked several people I've called using the head unit hands free and they have all said my voice was clear. That was a better response than when asking them about sound quality on calls over the OEM head unit. There is an external microphone as a backup, but I don't feel I need to use it at this point.
@@AZOverland2017 I understand, I just wanted to see how it looked on the scree. Is it just as it appears on your phone? Also, do you know if that head unit can support more cameras? And if so, how many?
@@joeblough4605 It does have a connection for a front camera. I'm not sure if it is wired for more than the Front and Back. Yes, the Navigation for both Google Maps and Waze pretty much mirrors the phone app.
Still in and going strong. It does have some glitches as someone else had mentioned, but nothing that's a deal breaker. Radio works perfectly, Spotify works great and connects though my Android Auto and my daughter's Apple Play without issue. Google Maps and Waze work well. Little things like I can't seem to control the volume of the GPS voice and music independently, etc
According to others who I have spoken to using it (located on the top left of the unit) they can hear me just fine. I am not using the additional external mic they provided. I did plug it in to the back of the unit and tucked it behind, but it is not in use.
It doesn't. It looks like Dasaita just upgraded and released their new head unit which it the same setup as this one and it should fit your 2011. See link below amzn.to/3S6UnAn
Would it b possible to get another video on this head unit? Still using it or not, any problems since you installed it... things like that. Im very interested in this from this video but would like to know if its still something you would suggest buying
Yes, I will be doing another, long overdue video on this. In the meanwhile, yes it is still working great and I am still liking it very much. It's not perfect, but it does what I want, looks and sounds excellent, and is reasonably priced
Desperately hoping this performs way better than the Dasaita. Really would love to upgrade my head unit. But the current Amazon reviews are not ideal. We will see how it all shakes.
I will doing an update soon. To date, this has been a solid unit and a huge upgrade to the 4Runner. I used to be jealous of my brother's head unit in his new Tacoma. Now that I'm used to mine, when I hop in his truck it just doesn't compare. Perfect...no, but well worth it.
It does improve sound quality. Yes, the speakers are still OEM, but the built in amplifier in the head unit does make a noticeable difference in sound. Even if it didn't, it would still be worth the cost from the incredible shard screen, size of the screen, ability to use any navigation app you like, Car Play and Android Auto accessibility, front camera capability, etc.
Thank you. Yes. The sound and quality is definitely improved. I believe it is from the internal amplifier. I'm happy with the sound improvement but I suspect if the speakers were also changed out there's still more to be had.
On the home screen, bottom left, there is an icon that looks like a 4 leaf clover. Tap that. When the screen opens up scroll right and on the top right you can hit the icon that looks like a triangle. That take you to the Play Store
Hello again I love my head unit I was wondering why my factory USB is not working I did notice the factory USB cable connector doesn't go all the way in on the USB adapter connector provided any ideas??
Cool! So, I never actually use the factory USB port. I used it for charging my phone when I first purchased the 4Runner but realized how slow it was compared to a 12V dual USB adapter I now use. In my video, there were 2 wires I didn't use. I believe that gray one I didn't use was for the OEM USB/Aux connection. I just checked and my USB doesn't work either and I assume it's because I never connected that wire. I would never have known until you mentioned it so I had to check. It seems some years have different plugs. Take a look at the 2 adaptors I put below and see if you think 1 will work for you to make your USB connect and operate. I recently purchased this head unit, installed it and love it except for 2 things, I cannot find the reverse camera hookup. I’ve successfully gotten it to connect to the front camera connector and get video feed through the backup cam but when actually reversing nothing, my other concern is that when I go to change any of the infotainment settings it requires a code, the code they gave is 8878 but that does not seem to do anything. Can I get any help here guys?
Regarding the Reverse Camera; watch the video again starting at 19:19 where I address this and see if it doesn't answer your question. I will look further into your other question. I don't recall having to enter a Code but I will go play around with it.
Nice cover on this radio; so I have a few questions now that you’ve owned it for a little while; 1. Do you still like it ? 2. Does it have both AM & FM ? 3. What Dash-Mount did you purchase and install above Headunit ? Thanks and it really looks nice!
Thanks for the questions! 1. Yes, it is night and day over the factory system. It is not perfect as it has some quirks as another person mentioned, but overall it does exactly what I need it to do regarding navigation options, Android Auto for me and Carplay for my daughter, and Spotify. The screen is big and very sharp so no regrets. It is still working great. 2. Yes it has both 3. I'm using the Bulletpoint Mounting System. I'm way behind in my videos as I have so much footage I'm still going through. I'm still enjoying the head unit immensely. As another sub mentioned, there are few little glitches, but it is still far better than the OEM unit and fits my needs very well. Nothing that is a deal breaker for me. I don't use SiriusXM but I just went out to check, and I don't believe it offers it from what I can tell.

Thinking about installing in my 2014. It works well with an iPhone? You mentioned your daughter didn’t have any issues initially. That’s still the case? You still happy with it?
Thanks for the great video. I purchased this and installed it based on your video. Great instruction. The system is a little quirky to be sure, but I think I like it overall. It does look great. One big point of frustration is the built-in Nav. When you first start up the system, the Nav automatically connects and basically takes over the system. Have you found a way to disable it from auto starting?
Yes please ask. That would be great!!! Ill come up with a list but 2 others that come to mind are screen brightness and the vertical icon menu on the left side of the home screen. The brightness in the day is fine, beautiful in fact. But sometimes at night, especially using Android Auto, the screen is a little too bright. There is the pull down menu from the top of the screen that includes the brightness setting, but changing it doesnt actually afffect the brightness of my screen so I have been unable to change it so far. The other is the menu with the little icons on the left. A few of those I would rarely use so I wanted to switch them out with something like Android Auto. If you go and find the Android Auto icon and press and hold on it, you can then drag and drop it to another location. However, when i try to drop on that menu, it just tells me it is full and there is no room. I cant figure out how to move any of those out of there to make room. @@AZOverland2017

Hi there! Any idea why my Radio isn’t playing clearly? I added my FM channels but they are giving out lots of static. Also, are you seeing any issues with the sound cutting in and out? Almost like a CD skipping?
I am not experiencing these issues. When you say sound cutting in and out, is that happening with radio, Spotify (or similar service), and the video and music sound from the preloaded internal drive? In other words, is it happening with all sounds being played through the unit or just the radio?
Hi! Just figured out our fm radio. We didn’t have it plugged in 😂 and I’m seeing that I’m only experiencing the cutting out with my Apple play. Music starts to skip like if I’m playing a CD. I’m not sure what’s going on because my husbands android works fine. But what I did want to ask is how you are toggling between your daughter’s iPhone and your android. Does it seamlessly allow you to switch between phones? We are struggling with that
@@FamilyGomez-w7u We haven't experienced the "skipping" with my daughter's Car Play. We typically hit the BT (Bluetooth button) where it pulls up both of our phones and choose her phone. It is not always seamless because the head unit wants to always connect to my phone automatically. Sometimes we can just switch it over and sometimes we have to work at it. I think if I get to that BT screen, then switch my phone's Bluetooth off, then tap on her phone from that screen, we have more success.

The last connecter that you show in this video is for the USB connection under the ac controls. Mine came with an adapter to connect it.
Cool, thanks!
Maybe the 2nd yellow connection is for a front camera option?
I think there is another connection labeled Front Camera, but yes, possibly

Great video, easy to follow and super-helpful. Purchased the same radio, and wired it up following your lead. Things are working well, except the radio - I plugged it into the second adapter you highlighted. Wifi seems good, though it disconnects on and off. The radio widget comes up, but no stations anywhere. I left the antenna piece inside the setup when I put it all back into the dash. Is there something else I should do with it, or am I missing anything? Thank you again.
What happens when you press the radio button?
Feel free to send me pictures

There is an external microphone as a backup, but I don't feel I need to use it at this point.
is there an adapter to use the factory usb ports?
Yes. I think I showed them in the video when I was going through the wiring. At the time I didn't know what they were for and I didn't connect it.
Why do you keep blurring out the screen when it's showing navigation?
Because I was near my home and I'm not quite sure I would like people knowing my location.
@@AZOverland2017
I understand, I just wanted to see how it looked on the scree.
Great video so with the pre-installed apps do you get any engine management info or TPMS data on the screen
Good question. No engine info on the head unit. I don't have TPMS so I'm not sure about that
What's your thoughts on long term, did you have or experience any issues.
I wonder how this unit would work with MTM 360 camera?

Does it have a satellite radio function?
It does not that I can see
How does that external mic sound? And you you know if you can retain the factory one with that head unit?
According to others who I have spoken to using it (located on the top left of the unit) they can hear me just fine. I am not using the additional external mic they provided. I did plug it in to the back of the unit and tucked it behind, but it is not in use.
Does this fit a 2011 4runner? I looked on amazon it says 2014-2019....
It doesn't. It looks like Dasaita just upgraded and released their new head unit which it the same setup as this one and it should fit your 2011. See link below

I believe I answered this in another comment. I will look for that answer I gave. But yes, you can.
Hello thank you for the instructions video it helped with my installation,I was wondering how do you get rid of the your going to fast reminder ?
You have to go into settings in the Navigation screen and play around with them. My daughter figured it out for me when we were driving.

Thank you so much.
I agree and the reality that a unit like this might die in 3 years keeps stopping me from buying one.
Why do all that if it doesnt improve sound quality??
It does improve sound quality. Yes, the speakers are still OEM, but the built in amplifier in the head unit does make a noticeable difference in sound. Even if it didn't, it would still be worth the cost from the incredible shard screen, size of the screen, ability to use any navigation app you like, Car Play and Android Auto accessibility, front camera capability, etc.
Great video. Any noticeable change in audio quality for oem speakers
Thank you. Yes. The sound and quality is definitely improved. I believe it is from the internal amplifier. I'm happy with the sound improvement but I suspect if the speakers were also changed out there's still more to be had.
Does it work with the party mode in some 4 runners
Good question. I don't have that option so I can't say for sure.
How do you download my own apps?
Also, look at the pictures in the Reviews as they provide some good explanations of these plugs and how others have used them

Nice cover on this radio; so I have a few questions now that you’ve owned it for a little while;
2. Yes it has both
3. I'm using the Bulletpoint Mounting System. See the video I did on it below:

Thanks for your quick reply and Happy Holidays!
Looking forward to your follow up review, any quick updates? Does SiriusXM work on this?
I'm way behind in my videos as I have so much footage I'm still going through. I'm still enjoying the head unit immensely. As another sub mentioned, there are few little glitches, but it is still far better than the OEM unit and fits my needs very well. Nothing that is a deal breaker for me. I don't use SiriusXM but I just went out to check, and I don't believe it offers it from what I can tell.
@@AZOverland2017 Appreciate the reply, and thank you for checking! I'm thinking I can still play xm from my phone and can link it via aux. Awesome to hear it's still holding up!

@@AZOverland2017 thank you. I use that a lot on my stock head unit and can’t seem to find any after market head units that have this.
Does the unit have an onboard microphone? If so, how is the quality when it comes to phone calls?
It does have one built in to the top left of the screen. It also has an external mic you can mount on the dash or windshield if you wanted. I connected it but tucked it behind the unit in case I needed it. The people i call say my voice comes through clearly Their voice does sound a bit tinny. Still fine but could be better. I think it may be adjustable (perhaps adding bass) but i haven't played with that yet.
@@AZOverland2017 Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. So just to confirm, the testing you have done has been with the external mic mounted behind the unit? Or is it just plugged in but not enabled?

@@AZOverland2017 Ah that makes more sense. I'm the same way, don't like extra stuff attached it I don't need it. Glad to hear the mic quality seems to be decent. Have heard a lot of negative things about the mic quality on some of the other 4runner head units (t10, etc)
I'm curious, do you still like this unit? Have you had any problems? It looks slick.
Yes, I use it daily. I still love it. It's not perfect but it is exponentially better than the OEM head unit.

@@clr47524 Yes, we both still connect (Android Auto and Carplay) without issue. I still have it and it still works great. I'm very happy with it
Thanks for the great video.
Thanks. Yes, I was able to disable it as I use Waze. My daughter actually figured it out, I'll ask how she did it. What other quirks have you found?
