2 solutions - use mosquito repellent or change water.
They don't need changing water but you can to prevent mosquitoes.
That ananymous vertical plant is called as myriophyllum verticillatum (whorled leaf watermilfoil)

Might be root got damaged. For adding moss stick you should have repotted it.
