So go put on "Black or White" and that middle heavy section, where in the video Michael is singing through fire, a guitar part comes in and it is very close to that riff to Dr. Feelgood. Motley Crue utilizes the mixture of rockabilly and metal. That's basically their signature. That was their method to creating catchy and really fun rhythms, using swing. The album Girls Girls Girls is soaked with it.
80s were FM radio. And LPs. Everything from Madonna, Hewey Lewis, Motley Crue. On the Radio to METALLICA ,anthrax, tribe called quest ,and Dela soul on the LPs. Loved the 80s it's ok. Even a little country music. That was when everyone got along. Before the media and politicians divided us
I always picture the part right after the second solo with the distorted “come play with Dr Feelgood” as being the moment the “patient” got hit with a prescription of something that made them crash, and there’s a pseudo-police siren effect right after
The only thing i will say about Motley Crue is that they had ALOT of help by other musicians to create their songs. I can only imagine what magic they get help on live in concert.
I am one of the Crüe's life long lover. I saw them in Charlotte for their Girls, Girls, Girls tour where they had a little no-name band called Guns N' Roses open for them. I was 14 and made it to the front row, just under the Bad Habits. It was an awesome show. That was in 1987.
I used to really love this song until I heard "Love Like Blood" from Killing Joke. Now I still like it but I can't hear it without thinking of that song.
Right around the time I first got into music, this track was big. I remember seeing the official vid many times and loving it. Because it tells a story, of “Dr. Feelgood” who’s a low-level dealer, then rises through the ranks. He amasses an empire of wealth but in the end it’s destroyed by the law that turned on him. It’s a story that’s been done in movies before, but the vid is still fire. And the song itself is just a good, hard rocker from a band that did lighter stuff other times.
You have to get past the glitz and glam and cheese...this song kills...KILLS. HUUUUUGE groove, great sound, great hook. Guarantee every ass in the stadium is moving when this is played, and that's the point.

Trivia tidbit: Janet Jackson credited this song as the musical inspiration for her song Black Cat because she loved the groove.
Janet was looking to rock and was, who can I get? Vernon from Living Color and Nuno from Extreme?! That'll work!
