i had 6 years of martial arts. i had a young police officer ( just a demonstration ) put me in this 1st lock . he quickly put the pain on me and it took my breath away. i was embarrassed that i could NOT get out of it. so it does work.
In law enforcement, we would use the “Geezer Technique” all the time. It’s a great technique for law enforcement and security personnel when you have to escort someone. If you bring the wrist down lower or cover the lock with your other hand, it just looks like you are holding their arm. Great control technique for two officers to use. Also easy to transition from this position to a handcuffing position.
I can see they would be effective. I wish you would have shown the hand movements on that first technique. Your hands go out of frame at the bottom and you can't see how you're entering into that grip.
Always good to see aikidoka speaking from *practical first hand experience* There's too much of this "aikido is ineffective" coming out of people who either 1) haven't actually trained in aikido or 2) have no real fighting or self defense experience ergo have no idea how to apply it. "Aikido is 70% atemi and 30% technique" it's been famously quoted. I'd say the way I learned it, that other 30% was maybe 20% nage waza (throws) and 10% tuite waza (locks/grappling) Personally, I'd like to add a little newaza (ground techniques) to my repertoire but overall I feel like Aikido as I learned it was fairly well rounded. I think people get the impression that aikido is primarily a stand up grappling art. We don't do enough about atemi in my opinion, and I'm aiming to change that, but I haven't much of a following as yet and progress is slow going. Perhaps you guys could help out? Speak a little on atemi, maybe give a shout-out?
I agree atemi is vital in any aikijujutsu or aikido or jujitsu. I went looking for aikido when I started my journey, found aikijujutsu, then found Daito Ryu. It's been a 14 year road that isn't stopping. The issue is that you just have to be honest with yourself at some point like I had to that ok if I add this then it's not jujitsu if I add that it's not aikido if you add this it's not daito ryu, in the end it's what works for you and dont get stuck in a box by the name of the art.
Yes of course, it works. Iam a Master in Hap Ki do. very similar to aikido jutsu. the problem is more, how to setup. The execution of the locks and throws of course they work!
Heres a pro tip...arm lock, no takedown, spam whatever kicks come out naturally while still using joint manipulation, also keep an eye on his free arm and foot/hip position, you don't want to fall because you're on one leg, that's a flamingo fail... Not to say it can't be executed 😁
Azu.. Some of the techniques were not fully in frame. I especially like to see how you do that first move. My son and I were going crazy trying to get it right. You made it look much easier in the video.. But I couldn't see as you were setting up the thumb hold.
Too bad you guys don't come up with some kind of a solo practice aid for Aikidokas in regard to applying locks (inc. ikyo, sankyo, nikyo), arm bars, etc. I'm thinking of something like a stand-alone figure that consists mostly of just the torso and arms. The fingers, hands, wrist, elbows and shoulders all have fully-functional joints so they can be manipulated just like the real thing. Great for practicing reaching out and grabbing those parts of the body to then apply the locks/bars to them. 😉
I would love to learn some aikido. I'm no mma sports player just a fan who practices. Boxing is all I really need for striking, street defense boxing is good enough for me. But grappling is where my interest lies. Chin na, Shuai Jiao, Sambo, Jujitsu are the systems I would love to learn. I have some experience in wrestling and Judo but right now I study bear style shaolin kung fu mainly because of the amount of Shuai Jiao techniques in it. My dojo offers aikido and I'd love to learn some locks from it despite the bjj fanboys who hate on it. yet fail to realize it's locks system comes from similar jujitsu roots.
this is a "variation" of a technique called Kotegaishi in Aikido. its done more like police officers do it, from a different position (it gives you much more control over your opponent) as long as you keep the pressure to the outside of his body its very effective
Tommy Taylor nikkyo can be brutal. I'm not the naive person, so I don't say pain shouldn't be involved, but that is not nikkyo. nikkyo can be done without pain. we're getting old and we don't kill each other on the mat or torture our joints. but we still make sure that uke cannot get away.
Man, aikido is brutal, you use it so effectively, in a very practical manner, and you teach well. I call hand locks a bell of consciousness 🔔, a way to encourage a bully to quickly re-calculate. They will be thrown off gaurd, and put firmly under your control, at which point you can model for him how a man of character conducts himself and get safely about your business. #golden_rule I use aikido with small circle ju jitsu and my other martial arts. It’s a gresa art for protecting yourself in NYC, where I live, from the overly-inflated, entitled, Trump-y white bois who like to assert their toxic masculinity. And without getting slapped with an sssault charge - just don’t break anything. You strike me as a good man. Thank you for sharing. ✌️ 🤜🫷
fromdetroit.Excellent. your the best instructor on the net. Please start a club in Canton Michigan, located between Detroit the motor city and AnnArbor the medical city.thanx
you are the best show everybody them big old hands and explain that is why you love a joint lock..many people dont realize a martial art and the practioner are like a foot and a shoe, both can't be the best quality and the invisible thing called fit can be bad. I am built for grappling way more than striking, short limbs thick and strong, not a lot of blinding hand speed, big strong hands...no matter how much I train for the striking the tall lean thin fast person is the build for striking. That big wide open basket ball court is that long lean strong striker guys home, his game..I would be insane to fight there, he trained there and he will dance around and chew me to bits...so this guy is selling moonshine in my county and needs a little beating to adjust. I watched him cross his kingdom the wide open parking lot to get closer to my home. closer closer then he steps in the wheel chair stall to piss, I aint whining because my home is bathroom stall, wham that striker is in a my fight in my home surprised, I grab his hand and have it behind his back.and shove him in right into that toilet..so I got him, he is face down on a toilet with me sitting on him.I dont want to make him I want to control his pain level and control his mind..then the psychological adjustment,,I am happy giggling that I got the guy, like a kid at Christmas. It is important that I build so much fear into him, he will always react, to me not act.I am not looking for a martial art that kills and wounds people fast..i am looking for a psychological art. Aikido is the best one I know of that joint lock that leaves little evidence, and allows precise control of pain.
people who bring aikido into violence are normaly fight stoppers,,not starters,,big difference,,we end fights thats it. police, prison officers ,doormen etc,,we hate it,,we end it. Big difference in fighting and ceasing it,,,we are lovers not haters,,we control outcome in peaceful way lets say.
I was once in a fight with a guy over a foot taller than me, I ended up on the floor on my back. When he came in to hit me I let my legs fly in a flurry of bicycle kicks. He ended up spinning around and falling toward me at which point I punched him in the tailbone. He stood up and the PE teacher scolded him. I didn't get a scratch and there was no doubt that he was the aggressor. He never bothered me again. So, yes, you can defend yourself while on your back on the floor. At least if the floor is smooth with very little friction allowing you to spin around freely.
T1Oracle ya you can it's called jiu-jitsu haha, it depends on the situation, my personal experience you don't want a smooth ground. you wanna be able to get up or sweep them, hard to do with a smooth or slick ground.
T1Oracle hey mate. I know that anyone can defend themselves on the floor. With or without training. My original question was in the context of aikido. Judo an ju jitsu are of very famous for their ground work techniques.
Johnnie Campbell how do you return to top with aikido??? People act like BJJ is bad because it doesn’t teach you to defend against multiple attackers. Just don’t fucking use the techniques when there’s risk of other people being involved (if you don’t have to)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu... designed especially for the smaller guy to take down the bigger guy, by taking the fight to the ground (where all physical advantages are nullified, either you know how to guard and fight in the ground, because you've learned BJJ, either you don't know and the BJJ guy will kill you), where you can't fight if you didn't learned to... and only BJJ emphases on that, other arts like Grappling, Judo and japanese Jiu Jitsu teaches ground techniques, but only BJJ teaches a whole tactical system to fight on the ground.
Dennis Wan I agree. I recommend Wally jay small circle finger and wrist stuff. Or just practice superior training and mental focus. Founder of aikido was tiny, did Japanese jujitsu, and I hear it was mostly deadly strikes or joint/bone breaks only done at full speed for battlefield. The best martial artists build on their own flow, and usually have a few favorite moves.
Spinning back fist is a bad idea vs a system focused on parrying/blocking/dodging + you don't want to turn your back at your opponent during a street confrontation, even for a fraction of a second... pivoting strikes should not be used, it's a matter of life and death, not an exhibition, your eyes should be on your target at every moment... keep things simple and efficient, why risking giving your back to your opponent, and or having greater chances of be blocked/dodged, losing time in useless motion, while you could just use a regular punch ? + vs a grappler, that split second you'll turn your back, he will go for your belt or a leg takedown.
Those are effective, but can you show us some videos where the person doesn't "consent" to being joint locked, ie stiffens their arm, wrist, etc. This is what most people do when confronted. Even those with no formal training.
Are TH-cam videos really a good substitute to attending a dojo to learn how to do techniques which can break someone's arm? My advice: don't try this unless you don't mind someone else beating the crap out of you
Something I really love with these Aikido guys.
i had 6 years of martial arts. i had a young police officer ( just a demonstration ) put me in this 1st lock . he quickly put the pain on me and it took my breath away. i was embarrassed that i could NOT get out of it. so it does work.

In corrections academy my instructor just called it a goose neck cuz of the way it shaped the hand
WOW!!!! This Is **Awesome**
‘Love These **Aikido** Techniques!!!!
Good locks. Like your energy that's what Aikido is about.
I love Aikido too. Very good video. Nice humor. Best wishes for you guys.
I can see they would be effective. I wish you would have shown the hand movements on that first technique. Your hands go out of frame at the bottom and you can't see how you're entering into that grip.
Love love love these vids, please don't ever stop making them!

Understand the concept of "go no sen," "irimi," and "kuzushi," and I feel like you'll well understand the appropriate application of atemi...
Love this video. The techniques look very effective and I had a laugh
I've watched this several times, it's very good. Thanks!!
these guys are a riot! Love it!
... " A Bit of a Geezer, A little Bit Whey 'n' a Little Bit Whoah... " 😂 Brilliant Tutorial, THANKS 👍
Yes of course, it works. Iam a Master in Hap Ki do. very similar to aikido jutsu. the problem is more, how to setup. The execution of the locks and throws of course they work!
I Like aikido and taekwondo so dat means im learning aikwondo
Lukson It means you’re learning Hapkido...
Ιts actually taekido
Heres a pro tip...arm lock, no takedown, spam whatever kicks come out naturally while still using joint manipulation, also keep an eye on his free arm and foot/hip position, you don't want to fall because you're on one leg, that's a flamingo fail... Not to say it can't be executed 😁
Amazingly and untypicaly helpful compliant ‘ aggressors’ here in first 2 - but then hey .. that’s Aikido !
Love your video and will subscribe just missed how you gabbed the first hand lock as it was out of shot.
Hello there Azu. Great presentation. Aikido at its best.
I just love you 😘. Hopefully I'll be able to put it into action next time I get mugged!!
I actually tried the third one and didn't even know it was aikido was so fast...it worked
that's the power of aikido flow
Azu.. Some of the techniques were not fully in frame. I especially like to see how you do that first move. My son and I were going crazy trying to get it right. You made it look much easier in the video.. But I couldn't see as you were setting up the thumb hold.
Great explanation on the nikyo
Too bad you guys don't come up with some kind of a solo practice aid for Aikidokas in regard to applying locks (inc. ikyo, sankyo, nikyo), arm bars, etc. I'm thinking of something like a stand-alone figure that consists mostly of just the torso and arms. The fingers, hands, wrist, elbows and shoulders all have fully-functional joints so they can be manipulated just like the real thing. Great for practicing reaching out and grabbing those parts of the body to then apply the locks/bars to them. 😉
Very fun to watch! Highly educational, my geezer, lol. Comedy meets real life self protection. Hilarious, bro!
I watch from America, just for his cool accent and the good looking guys. 😜
Top teaching method

Aikido and Jiu Jitsu (and consequently BJJ) all derivate from Aikijujitsu, hence the similarities.
Well done
I like that first lock a lot. I tried it on the wife and needless to say she didn't like it. lol!!!
Lool
Careful!
Lol. I feel sorry for her if you are testing your techniques on her, go easy.
+Azu's Point Of View and uke's abilities are equally important to nage's!
Don't use your wives as Aikido guinea pigs. Rule number 1.
No idea of what he is filming in the first technique. Please do it in a way we can see it.
this is a "variation" of a technique called Kotegaishi in Aikido. its done more like police officers do it, from a different position (it gives you much more control over your opponent) as long as you keep the pressure to the outside of his body its very effective
Really love your channel! So much great, useful technique! Thanks for doing it!
love the techniques azu and nikkyo is a brutal lock very effective too in my experience
It always works for me.
Have you ever used Yonkyo? It works quite well with Ikkyo.
Yes but I normally use it with Sankyo. Never thought of using it with Yonkyo but I will next time I'm in the dojo. Thanks for the tip.
It makes Ikkyo much easier.
Ty i love your videos always cheel and happy, the good way for aikido, keep doing these incredible videos
Nikkyo and Gotegaish are my faves
Top three Awsome

Cool lesson
thank you for this. It was nice.
Good stuff. Thank you.
Nice sir

Hi u growing a bit nice to see u again
I miss London so much
GENIUS
This is a great for someone who attacks you . and self defense.
Does someone know the name for the first technique

Nice
love the flow ,could you get some hrangdo, and taekwondo
I'd like to see how (or if) you can defend yourself while on your back. on the floor.
like how there's no reply to this comment

I remember all 3 from JKD. All hurt like a mofo, especially 1 and 3. 3 is great though as they'll never expect it if they grab you.
Awesome
Very true.😁
Couldn’t see the grabs: below the field of view. Do over with the camera showing the grab?
We teach those in Hapkido. Very nasty locks! 👍
Hey can you use nunchucks in akido
I like the thirt lock
Osu! Arigato gozaimashita!
where was that filmed?
1:23 "I flip this hand up here..." (Camera doesn't pan low enough so we can see how demonstrator is grabbing the hand.)
Nice moves as always Azu.. I have to ask whats a"Geezer"? Is that British slang?
It is sort of slang. It's someone who thinks they are "that guy" as you might say in the states.
Ok thanks. Should i venture to your country i now know how to use it.😄
Halleluja thnx bro amen
Ondrej is a good sport :)
He is indeed and he gives as good as he gets.
I think the second technique you shown was kimura arm lock
du bist ein guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut lehre dankkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkke
Azu question, has anyone broken out of your locks and got away free gratis.
Unfortunately the camera man did not Focus how to grab his fingers in the first technique but anyway good channel good clip 👍
I'm still looking for the art that will allow a smaller exponent to take down or restrain a larger exponent with the same skill level😋

Could you repeat the video of the first technique, pls.. Its beginning is out of the frame.
Cameraman: Please pay more attention to the instructor's movements so the techniques can be shown clearly. Thanks.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face
Those are effective, but can you show us some videos where the person doesn't "consent" to being joint locked, ie stiffens their arm, wrist, etc. This is what most people do when confronted. Even those with no formal training.
You have to move you’re body along with the technique. When they stiffen their arm it’s your body weight against their arm
cute torturer . . . but a torturer & on his own mate!
with you intro sound i have a cooking interesing
Too funny thanks.
Gooseneck is fail proof
you need to show the techniques better in more detail
MisterSir the game is to be sold, not told
A geezer is an old in the states
Looks like the guy from arsenalyv

The guy look like oin morgan
I thinkasu use to be a violent thug .a bit to keen on thumping g peple akido has made him BETTER MAN
like!
Are TH-cam videos really a good substitute to attending a dojo to learn how to do techniques which can break someone's arm?
My advice: don't try this unless you don't mind someone else beating the crap out of you
nrellis666 Having a friend to spar with is better than attending a dojo with a tree hugging instructor
U seem like decent guys . I should imagine the black geezer was a big bully a bit 2 keen on thumping people in the day .
Haha…jeez the camera cuts off the first technique.
So the best form of Aikido to use is Ju-Jitsu....
could not see how he got the hand into the lock, bad camera angle
