Hey Jason, new CAD designer here. Did you ever figure out how to make the chains linear pattern out while keeping the same revolute constraints? I'm trying to make a chain around two gears, but haven't been able to find any solid videos for the whole process. Thanks!
Hi Brandon unfortunately I haven’t. When I was teaching virtually I was working on this project, being back in the classroom I haven’t had time to revisit it. The next idea I was going to play with is bringing in a gear and setting a offset constraint to the gear center point. Not sure that is the answer but I was going to explore that path.
You should try to use the replicate feature. And if that doesn't work you can use this part as a subassembly. Then you only need one mate to connect the links to eachother. So open a new assembly and insert this one multiple times. I think a linear pattern doesn't copy the mates.
I thought about doing s subassembly and I think it would work. I’m still not sure about constraining it to the gear. I have tried the linear pattern with no success. I appreciate the idea!💡
@@Tomorrows_Eng I don't think Onshape is able to mate the gears with the chain. You can give it a gear relation but it will be tough to get it to sync. There's no (collision detection).

That’s great to know, I won’t waste my time then
