The last and most beautiful conversation between David and Rick!

This performance is an absolute jewel. Seeing Richard Wright and David Gilmour pour themselves into this musical masterpiece is nothing short of amazing. They were both in their 60s at the time of this concert. This rendition of Echoes is a musical masterpiece. Sadly, Richard passed away 2 years after this performance.

At that time, nobody knew Rick Wright was dying of a cancer😢Not the journalists, not the fans, even not the other musicians....But, David, knew it, and David and Rick knew it was, probably, the last time they would play that song together! And, when you see that version, you feel how, they were connected together!😢At the beginning, during the funky part, and at the end, how they talk together with their instruments, guitar and keyboard, it's MAGIC....😢The best version with Pompeii....I'm, really, happy you watched that version! Thanks to listen to your followers....👍Peace from France ✌️

@@echoesyt yes, a great concert....For Walesa....I saw them in 1994, the Pulse tour concert, in my french hometown, Strasburg....It was magic....But, the live at Gdansk, and the final live, with the 4 guys at the live aid, were very special shows for sure....✌️

oh my, the tones that gilmour cooks up in this performance are amazing. and i was in tears seeing dave and richard trading riffs, knowing that this was the last time they would play this song together.

David Gilmour just gets better with age, Check out "A Great Day For Freedom" from the same concert. Gilmour's tone is just gorgeous and the solo is one of his finest.

This is a great performance and the whole album is amazing. They perform Gilmour's solo album On An Island in it's entirety also. A very special live album. The dueting at the end of Echoes is incredibly poignant. RIP Richard.

You can almost hear David and Richard saying goodbye to each other in those final notes. RIP oh great one.🌹
To answer your question, not only is this masterpiece the best song on the album, it is the best song on *ANY* album.
I suppose "One of These Days" would be a distant second from me on "Meddle".

My opinion, you listened to them in the correct order. Gdansk, I think is their best rendition, even thought I like the studio version as it was the first one I heard many years ago. Gdansk is the last time 'Echoes' was done in a live setting. This due to Richard passing away soon after and David not wanting to do it again without him. You asked about the studio album. I think Echoes, which is all of side Two stands alone as a separate piece. The first side is more a grouping of different types/styles of music they were playing with, all good but not as cohesive as some listeners would like in an album setting.

definitely the most powerful version, live or studio, Pompeii amazingly atmospheric & raw, and so so young. got meddle album on release, side 2 so so different and nothing like this masterpiece. loved your reaction.

Easily my favorite version of this song

  • @louissamson4609
    @louissamson4609 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The ending on this version is my favorite of all iterations of that song. It's also the last show Rick Wright did before his death and to me, the conversation between his keyboard and david's guitar in the end means everything to me and how I feel about them. As for Meddle, yeah Echoes is by far the best although, any other song brings something to the legacy. But, for me, the album that is between Meddle and Dark Side, Obscured By Clouds, is often dismissed because it's a soundtrack composed and recorded in 2 weeks while they were working on Dark Side. But to me, that album is one of my favorites as it bridge the pre Dark Side and Dark Side. Guitar are more complexes, lyrics are light but as always, to the point. Very some interesting stuff musically but I'd say, it's something you might want to listen on your own if you want to know more about the progression of pink floyd. It doesnt worth the work to make a youtube video out of it imo. Also, Atom Heart Mother Suite is musically something, especially with good headphones :)

Just about my all time favourite Floyd track.
‘Echoes’ was my first proper listen to them, aged 15, in 1971.
I then bought the Album ‘Meddle’, as soon as I had enough money.
This is a fabulous, spine tingling performance and you can almost feel David and Richard talking to each other, as it closes out with that beautiful, quiet end section. Amazing. 🎶❤️🎶

This very well be my favorite of all the Pink Floyd songs I've heard as well, but it's hard to say because there are so many great ones. This performance though is very touching.

The tension that made Pink Floyd great was between Gilmour and Waters, but the musical telepathy and symbiosis that made them great was between Gilmour and Wright.

The best version of 'Echoes', played in the town of my father, and my father's father, and my father's father's father 😂.
From all the numerous reaction videos on TH-cam, I like yours best because they are so sincere, and you obviously have a feel for the music.

It’s one thing to make a crowd this size stand on their chairs and pump their fist or whatever. But when you can make a crowd this size become virtually silent…. You’ve reached a level few do.

The very best version of ECHOES in my opinion as this was the last time David and Rick played it and it is very special. Guy Pratt was the replacement for Roger Waters for a long time - it is he on PULSE so he could be said to be a member of PINK FLOYD and some of the other players worked with PINK FLOYD from time to time. Guy now plays in NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS which plays the early repertoire of PINK FLOYD. As to whether David will still tour is anyone’s guess … also of note is the second guitarist PHIL MANZANERA who was ROXY MUSIC’S lead guitarist and has been playing with David awhile now. It’s special to me because I introduced the band onstage and they were previewing MEDDLE including, of course, Echoes. A few days later live on the BBC RADIO they had the ‘world premiere’ - no we probably had it first! This version moves me to tears every time.

I saw Floyd on the Animals tour but they didnt do this or anything older than Dark Side songs. But when i saw the reformed band minus the crazy RW in Philly in 87 they opened with this. It actually brought a tear to my eyes and choked me up a bit. One of the best songs ever written IMHO.

Great reaction! Very heartfelt. This is probably my favorite version. As far as the Meddle album goes, my feeling is that Echoes is the best song, One Of These Days is second and was a live concert staple from 1971-73, and also 1987-94. After that, I would say A Pillow Of Winds, and Fearless are next, then San Tropez which is a jazzy departure from Floyd's usual sound but Gilmour and Wright really pull it through, then Seamus. Some people say Seamus is filler but I rather like it. It's a standard 12-bar blues with a dog howling along, but it really works well in a way only Pink Floyd can do.

David Gilmour and Rick Wright had a special connection sharing the harmonized vocals all these years, since 1971!
I can't believe I missed this reaction bro, I enjoy your Floyd reactions very much, and I love this 2006 version of "Echoes", Parts 1 and 2 consecutively! This version is very significant in and of itself, it is likely the last time Gilmour and Wright performed this song, Richard Wright died two years later in 2008 from cancer.
At the time, Gilmour said he'll never play the song again.

Man you gotta check out , David Gilmour - On An Island live at The Royal Albert Hall. The whole concert is amazing up there with Pulse in my opinion , Not so much all the flashy lights but just for David to just play his heart out!

The last performance with David Gilmour and Richard Wright. Gilmour refused to do the song again without Wright(who passed away not long after this performance, RIP). Not sure if Roger Waters still does Echoes live. I've seen in TH-cam comment sections that Nick Mason is touring, and that his band is doing Echoes

When I was "good" enough to finally purchase a Fender, it was a replica of this beauty. All black w/ white single coils, a one piece toasted maple neck, and of course, the white accented tremolo bar. Now if I could only channel some of David's magic....

Perfect fusion of original and live at pompeii version. However there is another version that tops it! Remember that night. Ohh by the way the whale sounds are done using the tone control on the guitar. Not by the strings. Accidentally discovered when the negative and positive cables where were incorrectly inserted into the amp I think. However if you listen to an early PF song called embryo live then you will discover that this is where it first originated.

Part of the difference you hear in this version is due to David using what was his favorite guitar " the black strat". Totally different sound than the red guitar.

Great concert. I actually prefer the Gdansk version of Comfortably Numb to the Pulse version. Gilmour is the master.
    Its worth repeating:
What do guitars ask for at Christmas?
    David Gilmour.
