    It would be great if the internal recording would receive a timecode input - via the app for example, to sync to the phone's time of day. This is a life saver for video shooters and this product is clearly targeting this group.

    No timecode? Surprised it’s not included given its price point and competition that does offer it.

    The things that need to be added to the Sennheiser EW DP SKP 32bit Recorder are,
    1. Audio monitoring option by 3mm jack or Apps.
    2. 2. Type C Port with Battery Charging in Case

    Question:
    Can I connect the Sennheiser EW-DP SKP with the Sennheiser ew-D EM verbinden..
    For the use as a musician, on stage, making my microphone wireless?

    • @robb.blumenreder

      Hi @Extendia - absolutely! The EW-DP SKP is compatible with all products in the Evolution Wireless Digital series (EW-D, EW-DX and EW-DP) - just be certain that you're using a compatible frequency range for the transmitter (SKP) and the receiver (EM)... a Sennheiser wired mic would be a nice choice, too ;-)

    Is it possible to use the plug-on transmitter as a standalone device, with a XLR microphone, and record (just) on the card, without any receivers around? I have a usecase where I just need a hi-quality audio and this would be a great portable solution. Thank you.

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The SKP can be used as a standalone device to record in either 24-bit or 32-bit float - you have two inputs: either locking 3.5 mm or XLR and you also have switchable 48V phantom power.

    Nice product.. No headphone socket. Can you monitor (or atleast playback) with the phone?

    • @MoovonMedia
      @MoovonMedia 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know there may be devices our there that have this functionality, but you should really be monitoring the audio on your recording device. Usually this would be either your camera or your field recorder. Otherwise you could be having issues such as a faulty cable running between the receiver and the recording device, or other interference, which you wouldn't notice if you're monitoring straight from another output on the receiver or anywhere else in the signal chain. You'll only notice when you start editing and realise your recording is ruined.
      What I often do is I attach a second transmitter to the headphone output on my camera, so I can carry a wireless receiver and monitor the recorded signal wirelessly. This way I am mobile, yet I can monitor the actual recorded signal. If there are any issues, I will switch back to plugging in wired before troubleshooting to be 100% certain.
      The phone app would never be able to deliver a high quality and near zero-latency audio feed over bluetooth, so it would not be useful in most situations either. More importantly it would again not tell you if your recorded feed is any good.

    • @sammorganmoore
      @sammorganmoore 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MoovonMedia thanks for the thoughts. I dont want my camera built with wires and cables, I dont want to carry a field recorder. I want the mic free from the camera and any leads and a 'recording mic' seems a great way to do this for a certain style of low profile run n gun work. So this device seems perfect. But knowing if you can monitor, or even playback over the phone is important to understand the viability of such a low footpirnt solution.
      I have a full cine cam, also a field recorder which are great for other jobs.
      I own various XLR mics and this item would fit them unlike a zoom f1 shotgun which needs a propriery mic and.. well im scared of zoom.. i think they break.
      I could also use it with a receiver on bigger' jobs. Nice.
      This enquiry is about having building a tiny kit that I can use while out on my push bike for that I beleive a 'recording mic' would be the best thing.

    What is the maximum wireless range and does it work multiple through walls?

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @DJOurWedding - wireless range is a bit of a tricky question to answer as it depends entirely on the environment... UHF waveforms are large enough to make their way through walls and obstructions, but best practice is to try to maintain line of sight whenever possible. I know this doesn't answer your question in a definitive way, but there are some variables here to consider. It sounds like you're trying to do some wireless speaker options and there's a few other considerations that you may want to look in to. While using the SKP (or even an SK bodypack transmitter) is certainly possible and done by many DJs, I usually recommend to use an IEM Transmitter and so you can utilize remote antennas and gain much better coverage. If you're going full wireless speaker (i.e. power and receiver) you'd want to consider a bodypack receiver as opposed to a rackmount version. We don't offer IEM in our EW-D Series, but this is commonly done with EW IEM G4... our team is happy to chat more about this if you'd like more detail.

    The EW-DP series would be amazing all around solution, but no timecode??? Receiver should include at least a simple timecode generator and send it to transmitters and to audio out channel. Otherwise syncing 32 bit recordings from transmitters is a headache I am not willing to take.
    Even cheap RODE and DJI sets offer timecode.

    • @JeffCorcelius
      @JeffCorcelius 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, if this doesn't have timecode then I don't think its worth it. When it was first announced I thought it was two channel transmission not one at a time.

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’ll need to make certain you’ve updated the firmware to the most current version, which offers the 32-bit option. When the SKP is connected via Bluetooth to the Smart Assist app, you should see an option for “update available”. Once this is completed, you will see 32-bit Recording in the device menu settings under the “Recording” tab. If you look in Advanced Settings > Device Information, your firmware version on the SKP should read 1.10.0 (current as of today in App Version 2.2.0)

      But, are we sure it's 32 bits float (as it's been said on the Internet) or just 32 bits ?

    Can you start simultaneous recording for more than on SKP on the app?

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can. The SKP can be paired as its own Bluetooth device via the Smart Assist app - once linked, you can access it's menu options, which includes Start/Stop for recording, enabling 32-bit float recording, phantom power on/off, selectable lowcut, and a few other options.

    • @Scotvis
      @Scotvis 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robb.blumenreder Thanks Robb - though after asking this question here on YT, I messaged Sennheiser and they said you can't trigger recording on more than one SKP simultaneously from the app. My use case is a series of classical music workshops where a high quality stereo recording is needed. Very limited time in each workshop, so having the stereo pair with SKP's on a stand would really streamline things. The issue of course is that it would be preferable to use the first gen recordings to SD card rather than the EW RX unit DA to the camera AD (or field recorder). However, the recordings need to be in sync with each other, i.e. exact same start time. Sennheiser did say you could 1) start recording on the multiple SKP's then 2) send a slate tone to the mic input of the SKP's, then 3) remove the leads to SKP mic inputs and the phantom power plug on mics will be recorded, so notionally you do have a route to a sample accurate match of the two files. It is a bit inelegant though :(

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Scotvis My apologies for the confusion as I misunderstood the question (ack! I'm sorry). My colleagues did advise you correctly as the "Start Recording" option is on a per device basis, so you'd need to start them either on the device themselves (manually pushing the physical record button on the SKP) or enabling the "Start Recording" option within the app by opening each device setting. While timecode would be a wonderful option here, the SKP doesn't have this feature built-in; short of the suggestion for the slate tone being sent on the 3.5 mm inputs and removed (I agree, inelegant), a clapboard could be a "standby" alternative.

    Can I record and transmit at the same time? Is that just for XLR mics or for lavs too?

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes - the EW-DP SKP can record 24-bit or 32-bit float audio in .WAV format from either the XLR or 3.5 mm connection to a removeable MicroSD while simultaneously transmitting to the EW-DP EK receiver. It's important to note that the 3.5 mm connection will take priority whenever in use, so you're not able to have both an XLR mic and lav mic active at the same time for transmission or recording purposes.

    • @LennertK
      @LennertK 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@retroidgamer Could you elaborate on which patent they could be violating? I'm not a lawyer but as far as I know, just because a patent exists doesn't mean no other company can create a product that contains a similar functionality. The patent holder would first of all have to enforce the patent (i.e. take them to court I guess?), and then it would be up to the court to decide if the new design actually violates the patent. If the design is different enough it could be fine, or maybe the patent you're referring to is structured very broadly which could also make it unenforceable (again, up to the court). Sennheiser could also be licensing the patent. I'm not saying you are necessarily wrong of course, just that there are ways where Sennheiser could be operating in a perfectly legal way even if an applicable patent exists

Just a quick note for clarification as the video states, "...The SKP plug-on transmitter is compatible with our entire family of Evolution Wireless Digital products, including: EW-D, EW-DX and, of course, EW-DP". As you pointed out, AVX is a different series, so it wouldn't be cross-compatible with products from Evolution Wireless Digital (or, previously, Evolution Wireless G4/G3, etc...). Sorry for any confusion and I appreciate the feedback!
