    I've just returned recently to the shootin' and fishin' game after a few years doing something else and I can't get over how much 'lighting' technology has progressed. The last lamp I had for my game was a hand held spotlight powered by a large 12 volt battery from a Honda Gold Wing motorbike or if a longer lasting power source was required someone would have to strap a car battery on to his back!. With a 100w halogen bulb the motorcycle battery would last for one and a half hours and the car battery around six hours..or less if the guy carrying it collapsed#1 ...a reasonable quality headlamp such as the one tested in the video but with a tighter main beam are just as powerful as the old 12volt battery powered spot lamps....'you'd have to have been round in the old days to fully appreciate just how incredible these lights are

    I have this light and I love it! I take it with me when I go fishing and when I go hunting. Of course I don't leave it on even when I am not needing it but all in a all its a great light. The key to keep it to last longer is that I don't let it drain the battery all the way and every time i come home I put it to charge to have it ready for the next day. I have had mine for 2yrs now and it works like new. I ain't trying to convince anyone to buy I but just want to share this info with y'all. Have a blessed one!

    Hi Hiram. I enjoy the vids. Hey, would it be possible for you to take the light outside again and do a side-by-side comparison with your Thrunite headlamp. That might give us viewers a better measurement of actual light output. Perhaps you could even compare both headlamps to a standard Minimag flashlight since just about everyone has one of those.
    Appreciate the vids Brother. Have a great day. 👍😎

    Strobe mode on a flashlight is to disorientate an attacker while you hit
    them with something or run. I have The Edge Mini flashlight which is
    really bright, and has an aggressive removable bezel so you can strobe
    an attacker and wack them in the forehead or eye etc. Strobe works best
    with a really bright light. Some lights have an sos flashing mode but
    nobody uses morse code they use a cell phone lol. I bought a 2 pack of eveready headlamps that are pretty bright, and great so I can use 2 hands when working on something. I seem to be using a headlamp a lot lately. Very useful tool. This one is odd because of the top headstrap, which makes me think it is heavy even though it is advertized as light. I also have found that you can put a headlamp over a baseball cap. I am just reading up on this headlamp so I have no opinion yet.

    • @celticwitan
      @celticwitan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like rechargeable flashlights, but in a disaster when there is no power it will go dead. This does have a car charger. What I like about my Edge flashlight is that it takes 1 AA battery.. easilly found in a disaster.. maybe in a remote control for a tv in some rubble.

    • @louiechidwick6034
      @louiechidwick6034 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@celticwitan I think lumens are deliberately exaggerated by manufacturers because they know that it's a measurement that is poorly understood by most buyers (just like "candle power" was).

    Headlamps are a compromise (like all portable lighting). A 5000LM lamp is fantastically bright. But you are left dazzled by it for a few minutes after using it. You mainly need that power, when searching for an animal or person at night. Lamps from 5000-9000LM are impressive. But probably overkill - unless you can step them down to 20% for general use.
    Personally - I prefer a flat topped lamp at 2000LM; to work on something complicated, for a short period. Plus a lightweight, far lower power, wide beam option. to find my way around. Unfortunately, you almost never get both from one head-lamp design.
    My far older, less powerful Petzl MY0XP runs on 3 AA batteries (which can even be changed in the dark) This is better for extended, or general use. It provides a near omnidirectional soft light to move around; without blinding other people you are with. You can step it right down; and use it to read in a tent. But, if you flip down the defusion lense; you get a concentrated spot lamp to work on something. Pure power is not the answer most of the time. The ability to zoom and target your objective, is actually more important.

    I got one of these recently (same brand) it was over a week late (got it on Amazon) and it came from China. it's the brightest light that I own. I have read other reviews where people had issues from batteries exploding (I'm assuming that was exaggerated) but mine has been great.

    • @rage801
      @rage801 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      eakinj if you mean exploding as in catching on fire then yes that happened to mine. one of the headlamps I got just caught on fire and the other one as soon as I would plug the batteries in the coils would heat up. within seconds they were glowing so I just threw both headlamps away you're better off spending a few more bucks to get better quality

    • @eakinj
      @eakinj 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had any issues with mine at all, not sure if this actually made the difference but I never actually used the batteries that came with it. I haven't used it for real long periods though, I think the longest has been for about 30 minutes. I've actually moved on from this unit anyway, I haven't been doing much camping lately so I had actually forgotten about it til your comment. I agree though, it's better to buy something for a little more money that's proven, I just never had the issues with mine though that others seem to have had. I think I just got lucky (and again, I've only used it up to 30 minutes so, who knows what could happen if used for longer periods of time.) OH! the exploding part, someone said (and I'm trying to remember the exact way they put it) they put in the batteries, plugged it in and the battery compartment exploded (the batteries not the light itself) something like that... it's been a year so I don't exactly recall.

      If there is one thing in this day in age that everybody should be aware of is that you never, EVER !!!, leave any device that utilizes LiPo batteries unattended as they're charging. That includes cell phones, tablets, battery chargers, whatever. If you have anything LiPo charging in a given area and you're going to be leaving that area for any given length of time ?? UNPLUG IT !!! or run the chance of a fire.

      Really handy when you're under a house and trying to show the otber workers where you are (static light does not stand out very well, turn on the srobe and they'll know exactly where you are). Also, if someone was jogging or hiking and was attacked, using the strobe setting will disorient attackers and confuse aggressive animals).

    • @ReneeNme
      @ReneeNme 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      + ydnarnosfatsug Audrey is absolutely correct. The strobe function on flashlights and headlamps are meant for users to be able use them for emergency situations. I own 3 different TrustFire flashlights and all of them have 4 functions. High, Low, fast strobe, and SOS ( strobe ) mode. Yes, strobe functions can be a pain sometimes when you accidently access them, but if you ever get stuck in a bad situation where you might need those functions to be able to signal for help you might end up being grateful for those functions. As a side note: One of my TrustFire's resides in the drivers side door panel of my wife's car. She drives to work along a busy roadway of a nighttime and I've told her that should her car ever break down along that stretch of roadway and she was forced to walk along the edge of the road to get help to make sure that she has the flashlight on strobe mode, not static. Why ?? As First Name Last Name4 stated, a strobing light will attract attention faster than a static light. It's just the way our brains are wired.

  • @INUID

    The 5800mAh batteries maybe have 600-800mAh. There are some smaller batteries inside the Fake-Batteries. Be carefull using this sort of Fake-Batteries, because of the filling material (Flour or Sand arround the much smaller batterie inside), they can get very hot inside under heavy load.

    • @matsbugs1
      @matsbugs1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +keith moore 18650s aren't really "special" batteries they are a well known cell now, to put in perspective, my Nitecore headlamp will take either 2 cr123 batteries or a single 18650. the 18650 can be recharged over 500 times, have about 30% more charge, and the batteries had for around $10 each.
      I guess my point being, you don't need to hunt around the house for a battery when the batteries you got with it last for years of use instead of weeks.
      Not a serious headlamp, not waterproof, and it probably only puts out 500 lumens, but that is still very reasonable for the price. I would buy one if on a budget.

      Matthew Dundon special to me is not being able to go to the drug store and get them! my criteria for outdoor gear is availailbity and commonality, if you decide to go out all of a sudden but have to order a battery or charge them then they're not for me!

    • @matsbugs1
      @matsbugs1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, you can get them most places though. Anywhere that sells e-cigarettes should sell 18650s now. I've always found the endless reliance on super old alkaline technology annoying. In the next few years they will become more and more common.

    • @keithmoore7390
      @keithmoore7390 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Dundon maybe, but until I get more used to them i'm sticking to what I know and can get cheap and fast, I tend to go on whims rather than planning all trips.

    • @maineiac114
      @maineiac114 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If worse comes to worse they do have converters that take three regular AAA batteries that can be used to replace the 18650. 18650 batteries last longer and are rechargeable, which in the end saves money. If you are looking for convenience of getting AAA's that may work for you. If using for a good period of time the best advice is always bring spare batteries. You also may look into alkaline versus GOOD rechargeable batteries, (Sort of like trying to compare Duracell to Rayovac, Rayovac is much cheaper but they don't last long however they are easy to get. There's always a trade off you just need to know what you can get and to me the best way is to be informed and come to your own conclusion after examining the facts from multiple reputable sources.

  • @RViscara

    Mind you Hiram this is no reflection on you or your stove reviews.
    So the chinese sellers have gone from 2000lumens to 5000lumens.. Boy I thought it was already a complete joke that they where saying these where 2000 lumens. Now they actually have the nerve to say these are 5000lumens. If I where you I would claim a refund of your money and everyone else do the same for its falls spec claims that are not even remotely close to the numbers given. Make these sellers pay the only way they understand by hurting their wallet. I am not advocating that people steal or be dishonest but merely make that they can't make outrageous claims on their products. I mean really 5000 lumens? where does it end?. I can take a photographer Gossen Lumix light meter and measure it and I can bet you its not even over a 800 lumens.

    • @RViscara
      @RViscara 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Baltimore Strouse you don't get the point it's not about brightness is about these Chinese sellers making such silly statements that theses are 5000 lumens when they are not even close to 2000 lumens flat out lying to sell products these are 400 lumens or 500 lumens at best. The point is where does it end and no one says enough is enough with the lies about specs

    • @RViscara
      @RViscara 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured thats what its closer to and more generous than I would give it as its lumen but I can live with that description. For them to state its 5,000 lumens is a utter flat out lie and false advertising and not even close to its real lumens. Why? to fool people thinking its brighter then the others and Amazon and Evil Bay do nothing about it. Reviews seldom report it or are paid reviewers from the company selling the items. The only people who can stop this abuse is Amazon and Evil Bay who know good and well whats going on but wont say anything about this to the Chinese why? they are partners in crime as far as I am concerned.

      colin arner thanks. But once again everyone avoids the big pink elephant in the room and won't say anything about it. Hilarious that not one person on this thread ever said anything about these Chinese Sellers making such insane false claims of their products so they can flat out lie all in order to sell product. That is false advertising that is considered in my book a scam! Yet no one says one word. Are we that much of politically correct morons that we are afraid to call out such insane flat out lying claims on a product? If a smart phone had the claim of a two month battery life when it only last 8 hours boy you would never hear he end of it on the news. Yet these Chinese sellers get away with it on eBay and eBay or its customers never say anything like its not happening? What is wrong on this world now? Have you all turned into cowards? To afraid to offend anyone? To afraid to speak out? Seriously wow.

    There's no way it's 5000lumens nor 5800mAH baterries. I had a similar product bought @ ebay with less lumens and it gets really hot on high after a few minutes. i'm afraid it might blow up in my forehead that's why i set it on low mode. I have Primos, Steamlight and Coast more expensive but far more reliable. If you want 16850 power buy Coast HL8r. 800lms. It's worth it. I stopped buying cheap Chinese flashlights.
