- POLICE are investigating a string of top Australian horse-racing figures, including champion jockey Danny Nikolic, for alleged race fixing in what is shaping as the biggest corruption scandal to hit the sport in decades.

Horse racing has always been fixed and always will be trust me I know we invented both corruption and horse racing here in Ireland

Fixing is one thing, which can be done a multitude of ways without Drugging, Doping or otherwise Harming the Animal. One could argue that all Sports are "Fixed" - just check the Numbers...
But drugging & doping & using poor training methods is unacceptable, if Trainers, Owners, Jockeys, the Industry in general & the Public continue to accept such poor standards in Racing, often in exchange for BRIBES or FIXED WINS, then they only have themselves to blame when their foolish & corrupt "investment" delivers a RETURN with Interest!
The UAE Godolphin Stables are notorious world wide for Doping & Drugging Horses, with MANY Drug Busts involving literally Plane Loads of banned Substances - but such Big Money manages to clear away all restrictions, penalties & prohibitions to participating in Races while engaging in such corruption...
Kind of like Qantas getting away with Slave Labor & Risky Work Practices in regards to Baggage Handlers, after FIRST contracting UAE Company Staff - who work under slave conditions in the UAE as standard practice...
Its not on, with the Horses or with Qantas - and once the Industry & Racing Participants SEE such a BIG Stable & such BIG Names & such BIG Money being held accountable, then others committing the same acts of corruption will start sweating bullets, knowing its only a matter of time before their heads, their careers, their stables & their money are on the chopping block!
Besides, it's extremely DANGEROUS for the Jocky to be riding an Exhausted, Doped or Drugged Horse - the injuries to the Jocky from such falls related to Drugging or Poor Training are life threatening, can cause Brain Injury, Paraplegia or Quadriplegia & NO ONE is responsible or required to pay for the Life Long Care of such Jockeys/Riders when it happens!
For this fact alone, all Racing Participants - including the Public when purchasing tickets, should be TAXED to generate a Collective Financial Kitty for the Jockeys & Riders when such incidents happen; since no Insurance Company is going to make payment on an avoidable Accident caused by MALPRACTICE & ILLEGAL Drugging or Racing & Training Conditions.
Horses can't race when injured for very GOOD REASONS, for the safety of the Animal, the Jockey & other Staff - so using Drugs to disguise injuries, hype up or slow animals down is not only CHEATING but is outright DANGEROUS to everyone & not should not be tolerated in any form, at any time, by any Racing Authority!
Besides Horses LOVE to Race each other, in the Wild, in the Paddock or on the Track - as do Dogs...
The other week a Dog Trainer was in the News for giving his Dog Alcohol to Fix a Race; the Dog could be seen flying out of the Gate but then STRUGGLING to Run!
Its just CRUEL & outright MEAN to Drug & then confuse an Animal like that, who literally LIVES to Race & Loves it!
No one wants people like that in the Sport - they can occupy themselves with other activities instead & be prevented from harming any other Animal or cultivating such cruel & corrupt behaviours in the sport - just like the scandle a few years ago about Dog Trainers using Live Rabbits to motivate the Dog to Run!
If someone can't Train a Dog to race Legally, then theyre not a Dog Trainer.
If someone can't Train a Horse to race Legally, then they're not a Horse Trainer.
Simple as that.
Same as excessive use of Whips on Horses, if you need to beat the Horse black & blue to motivate him to Race, then maybe Racing isn't for that particular Horse & it's time to find a Horse that wants to be there in the first place!
I once saw a Brumby Demonstration at the Annual "Horse Lovers Show" in Melbourne, where the Handlers were proudly talking on a Microphone about how they Sedate Brumbies to Transport them & referred to the practice as "Training" Brumbies!
Firstly, Brumbies are the most tranquil, calm, relaxed Horses around - if you can't work with a Horse who is that NATURALLY chilled out & relaxed & so happy to please - even as a WILD Horse, then maybe you shouldn't be working with Horses at all! God only knows what they do with a Hot Blooded Horse who wants to protest & fight every request made by a Human.
A similar "Fashion" is occurring with Pet Dogs, where people are turning to sedatives & "Doggy Prozac" to achieve Training Goals! If you gotta drug your Dog to "succeed" at Training your Dog, then owning & Training a Dog is just not for you. Get a Gold Fish instead.
And the Vets who assist with such practices by prescribing & providing access to such Drugs, shouldn't be working as Vets either - if you can't do your job without cheating & taking short cuts, then get another Job.

I was in the industry in the Schreck days and i can confirm that (like every cashed up industry) there is a portion of criminals and associates but 98% are trying to win
I think you're right, David. I don't believe that races are fixed or 'thrown.' I think the vast majority of horses are well-intentioned by trainers and their jockeys are riding as well as they can. But I do think that drugs are a huge problem. They're not throwing races, they're tying to find anyway they can to win them, including injecting their horses with loads of chemicals.
Everyday there is a race "fixed" whether its the trainer telling the jockey to go easy on the horse so he can get a low mark from the handicapper then BANG! Enters a good race with low weight..always happens.
MSW - takes in account horses AGE / WEIGHT and handicap. Follow these races to black type they are VERY GOOD Horses most of them cost $100,000s to train/buy.

Horse racing & dog racing in every country has always been corrupt.
When jockeys are scanned for listening devices things may temporarily change, but don’t bet on it.
It's deeper than jockeys and drugs. Believe me the shit they do is ridiculous. The only slim hope you have is to live away from others and always have eyes on your animals 24/7. Once they get at them once they can pull them up every single time without telling a jockey shit. They use frequency to pull them up. It's not a guess. I know. They got to all my dogs. But even worse. They can get to humans. And you won't know. They can make you ill or feel Ill with this technology alone. If you start getting headaches after dealing with the cheats my advise is move asap and don't tell anyone.
I heard jockeys have to spend 3 years as a stable hand ,before they can have a chance of being a race rider , obviously they must be a certain calibre and a rat ,willing to be the biggest part of the thievery and deception of vunerable punters ,the first ones looked after in this chain of corruption ,are the bookmakers it's said don't bite the hand that feeds you ,so bookies are supplied with outsiders most days 90 out of every 100 ,bookies win big and trainers look after that ,and scientifically get there cut by spreading money far and wide ,on horses they know will win one day in the future ,hopefully governments will stop this very grim waste of time ,and the damage it does to many communities of the world especially ,has them thieves get more greedy the punters will go down more and more suicides,by gamblers than any other vice .

The problem is that if you look at Les Samber, you will see his image seems quite clean. I’ve been studying criminology for almost 3 years by now and by the looks of it, I would assume that the culprit was using Samba as a mask for very illegal business.
It would be interesting to have a look at Les Sambas betting records or dealings in the racing business because if you can fix a match or race.
Not only can you launder the money in the races, but you can launder, gain profit or keep a clean record in the industry with simply knowing someone who can either bet or lobby information for you.
If doubt they would be able to find who did it unless they can find evidence of who he hung out with in and outside of racecourses…

Plus, Organised Crime Targets such Athlete's, Trainers & Animals - they usually cause them to generate a large debt & then put them to work to pay it off by fixing Races/Games/Matches.
But instead of making a Crime Racket a Million Dollars from one or two Fixed Games & eliminating the Debt, which may be $500,000 or a Million Dollars; they keep putting such compromised people to work at Fixing the Scores to generate as much profit as possible before anyone catches on.
A Cricketer or Footballer may generate over $100 Million Dollars in Profits when they only owed some Gangsters $500,000 in the first place.
Such Organised Crime Rackets use Drugs (Cocaine is a favourite) or "services" such as securing Contracts, a Pay Raise or solving problems with superiors or competitive peers using Violence or threats of Violence to generate such a Debt

Approaching the 300m Stax On Max, when weakening, was tightened for room between Cyclone Sarah (N Callow) and Smoking Aces (D Nikolic) which both shifted ground. N Callow and D Nikolic were both advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Rounding the home turn Mesmerize Me and Retaliate were held up for clear running until approaching the 200m.
When questioned D Nikolic rider of Smoking Aces, first placegetter, advised that passing the 400m he had two sustained looks to his inside to establish where Retaliate, race favourite, was positioned in the field as his mount was travelling well at this stage. Having established that Retaliate was back to his inside amongst other runners D. Nikolic then elected to ride forward and establish a break rounding the home turn.
N Callow (Cyclone Sarah) advised Stewards that shortly after straightening he looked to his outside on two occasions after having received a call from B Rawiller, rider of Retaliate, who had made ground to his outside.
So whats new, Im 50 and when I was 20ish I used to run bets for bookies, good vid , but nothing new .

It's happening everywhere - in the USA they had a major inquiry after something like 15 horses a week were "Breaking Down' on the Race Tracks - ultimately it all leads back to Transnational Organised Crime sadly

I worked in the industry for about 15 years. I knew a few jockeys very well as well as stewards, trainers, commentators & the higher ups. It's a dirty industry & i had eyes & ears wide open but i was a nobody so i saw & heard a lot of things that really didn't shock me at all.... Seedy, seedy characters
This is why you should never back to win. You are better off lay betting on exchanges. Even if the race is fixed you have to have a winning lay bet. Certainly better odds than the lottery.

Lisa Casey Danny Nikolic has since been run out of the racing game. They eventually got him for threatening a steward and his family (I think it was). Nothing ever comes from the corruption of actual horse racing. Very rarely anyway.
