I’m autistic and sometimes struggle with instructions but this was really straightforward. I would’ve struggled without you, so thank you!
Your video explains it better than the official Linux Mint forum, lol. Thank you! Cheers!!
It's a disaster! LOL!
Really appreciate your time and effort in putting this tutorial together, very handy for a beginner thanks a lot.
Thanks very much !! This thorough tutorial allowed me to get through the Windows power shell command line steps for the Integrity and Authenticity Checks, after downloading the Linux Mint iso. ! I watched and paused as i went through the steps. Very clear and so very helpful!! Looking forward to getting started with Linux Mint!
Excelente tutorial, simple, sin introducciones, sin publicidad. Like, suscribir, compartir, todo. Gracias.
Thanks for the help! It was pretty easy to do following the steps you laid out.
I will make a comment to the linux mint community forum, your instructions are far superior to their mess of "instructions" for integrity check. You did explained the process far better! thank you!
Thank you so much! I love videos that really break things down and walk through it, Im very computer illiterate when doing things the first time and have gotten very frustrated with trying to install many versions of debian to use.
Wow ! What a nice tutorial. Very concise and precise. I was stuck and it was really a tough thing for me to begin without this video. I simply followed the steps and accomplished the task swiftly. Thank you very much.😊
Thank you so so much for this, it helped me so much. I was totally freezing up at the instructions. You're a lifesaver
I would’ve struggled without you, thank you so much, dude!!!
Thanks for the video. I watched other videos on installing Linux Mint and for some reasons they ignored this important step.
Thank you for this video. Clear and to the point..
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was stuck here for hours before this tutorial.
CLEAN!! Thank you for your help and thanks to all others also helping out by showing us the "how to do it" i found your video very clear and concise, (watching videos and following instructions is my way of learning).
Not talking down on nobody but if someone would remake this video but in different languages it would be amazing (spanish in my case).... I would if i knew how to but im trying very hard to catch up with a lot of "IT knowledge".
y'all have a grrreat one...
Worked for me, thank you it's appreciated.
very good straight forward video, thanks, you made switchign to linux easy & enjoyable
Thank you it was really easy to follow the steps, I verified the reason behind the failed execution on my linux mint iso installed
Thanks for the tutorial.😀
Thank you so much for this...I couldn't have done it without your help
Thank you, your instructions worked perfectly.
Thanks for the vid! I'm about to install Linux for the first time and haven't used command prompt since...well since windows 3.1 lol. Nice straight forward video. Thanks for the help.
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! Although it should've been mentioned to create a folder to store the sha256sum files and iso before being able to open the PowerShell window.
Thank you truly. Your comment was as helpful as the video itself!
Greetings friend. This is the clearest and most comprehensive step-by-step information I've found about it. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much! This video is a big, big help!
Thank you for the guide!

Got it thanks for the video.
Great instructions thank you,

Thank you so much for this. That link to the windows instructions from the Mint site doesn't exist anymore. The article I read didn't work. This is the only one that worked. God bless you!
i did it! yaaaaay thanks for posting ^__^
Very nice thank you !
very very helpful thanks
You’re awesome. Muchas gracias.
it Says file not found: I write this in powershell: CertUtil -hashfile .\lmde-5-cinnamon-32bit.iso SHA256 and it says NOT FOUND... What's the reason?
Thank you very much for this tutorial. You just saved my ass!
Thank you so much!
Vielen Dank für dieses Video
thx a lot dude
THANK YOU! Finally did it!
Omg! 55 yo luddite here. It fkn WORKED!! ZOMG! Literally sooooo happy! Thank you! 😅 (phew)
Awesome video to help us beginners gain confidence and lose some of that fear of the unknown.👍👍
Tnx it was headache
CertUtil -hashfile method failed on both command prompt and powershell. But good sources won't lie. With that said I'm really enjoying the fact that Mint is more or less just as easy or hard to manage as Windows. The perfect escape from Windows 11 and sometimes 10. I got Mint 20.3 using the 5.4 kernel allowing me the use of Nvidia proprietary drivers so I can play Minecraft Java 17 with Tea shaders in 900p 50% resolution scale while rendering between 3-4 chunks in 60fps. My NVS 2100M hasn't let me down yet.
You are not checking the image file with pgp because you don't trust the developers or the website. As it says in the written guide, it's for Authenticity and Integrity, it's to make sure you are getting the file unmodified from the original source, not corrupted or modified in any way. You don't really have to do any of this but better safe than sorry
Not working for me either, in PowerShell. I may have to mess with my path :(
THANK YOU
Troubleshooting for -hashfile command fail : The instructor has PowerShell directed to his desktop as he moved the files there.
1: move / drag all files to the desktop.
2: In Powershell type Set-location desktop then press enter
3: follow everything he did.
thank you sir
Thanks blud cool
Thank you
nice.
do you have the same video to explain how to do it with linux pls ?
When I open the text file in Notepad to get the key, the versions aren't neatly listed as they are in the video. They are not listed at all. There is just a paragraph of letters, numbers and symbols. Anyone know why?
if having trouble not finding the file maybe you're in the wrong adress. Type dir and see if the ISO is there. if not you have to look where the ISO file is and go there through the powershel using command cd pastename to open paste until you reach your file. Once you're in the right place it'll work
Thanx mate
gpg : The term 'gpg' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the
spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.
Try to reinstall gpg and restart your system, if it still doesn't work then go manually to the folder that contains the gpg and the rest of the executables, copy the path to the folder on windows explorer and manually add it to the path (you can find a tutorial on TH-cam on how to manually modify the path)
*Path as in path environment variable, not the path to the folder
I downloaded Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon. When I clicked on the link to go to do the verification and authentication and got a 404 page error. Thus this was useless to me 😢
If you run into issues, make sure the downloads did not fail. I did not make sure this was the case (I might not have had enough space), and the powershell commands failed.
thx 🙂
On my computer, the GnuPG "installer" didn't bother to install a path variable... so gpg commands were not recognized. Quickest workaround is to move your key files to where gpg lives and run the authentication from there. ... or put the full path of gpg.exe in for the command, but it will expect the .txt .gpg files to be there also unless you also include the full path for them. (There's got to be a better way to verify that an .iso is good!)
You can add it manually in the path if for some reason the installer didn't, no need to move files around
Is there a way to check for the authentication of a SHA1 signature?
Second time Fingerprint key has spaces in between but its matched with first fingerprint key command while removing spaces. Is it okay
What's the difference between integrity and authenticity here ? I'm assuming authenticity verifies trusted ISO file and integrity verifies if it has been altered or not.
Integrity is checking if the SHA256 checksum of the image file is the same as in the sha256sum txt file. Authenticity is verifying that the sha256sum you have downloaded is the real one and not modified
I followed your guide. And it said it was bad. Should redownload and try again? Or what do I do?
When is GPG used?
What is the GNUpg thing? How do we know that is safe?
I have a problem with the authenticity check. I'm on Windows 7 and when I put any of the links in the command prompt, all I get back is "The system cannot write to the specified device"
mine did not match 2:38. what do I do now?
Shouldn't you verify the GnuPG too when you install it on your pc. Or at least it says so on the page.
i dont get this. when i right click save as the TWO files from linux mint connamon, i get TWO files. a .txt, and a .gpg....no .iso, i have been struggling with this & im lost. i have installed linux before & there was none of this verify nonsense, it was a .iso.
shift-right-click gives me one option
Installed it but used the LINUX OEM option and didn't verify the ISO as it was tooooo complicated. Please advise and shall I reinstall like you say?
As long as you downloaded it from a mirror listed on the official website then you should be okay
How do i grab tg3 download???
I wonder why not many people use Linux....
I almost gave up (again)--here we had Mint, which is supposed to be so easy, and then there is basically no help out there digestible to the beginner. For example, the website doesn't say to put these commands in the cmd or powershell, etc. stuff like that. It may be retarded, but I did not know that at all. Just kind of figured it out. This video saved my life, but it was very rapid and, as with many other instructional videos, I wasn't sure if I should continue because he doesn't anticipate any questions one might have--such as, "What about that ISO Verifying Tool they were talking about? I thought that was supposed to be two clicks?" I see why it's not applicable now, but it would have been nice if he'd said something about that. Sometimes you do an entire process and then find out, oops, this wasn't the one I needed. He obviously cared enough to put this out there, but wow, if this was a class, I would have been the dumb kid in the back who would figure he'll just work at McDonald's for the rest of his life. This was a giant hurdle that makes me afraid there will be hours of stuff like this in the future. At this point, I'm determined, but it's too bad there isn't something with a little more hand-holding because beginners need it.
verify signatures failed: No such file or directory ...... can you help me?
I had to restart my computer after installing GnuPG & then it worked for me.
okay but what we do if they dont match ??
I'm on windows 10. There is no open powershell when I right click on desktop.... How do you do this one windows 10?
go on search and type powershell
You have to hold down the Shift key while you right-click.
What if it says “verify signature failed: no such file or directory”😅
You aren't in the right directory, use cd to change it to the one where you placed all the files
i am getting stuck on the command at 2:32 any help?
I got messed up there, too, and it was because I wasn't typing in what he said exactly. He does say it clearly if a bit rapidly.
So big problem. Um... GPG is not recognized as a cmdlet, function, blah blah blah. This is where I hit a brick wall.
Edit: I missed the part where you have to download a GPG4win file. However, this video doesn't even show how to install that program correctly. How are we expected to figure it out ourselves?
Definitely copy files to desktop so they can be found while running commands... I didn't listen the first time 😁
yes... this worked for me too.
How many times in history has anyone ever downloaded a maliciously tampered version of Linux (is there a channel for that)- whqt happened?
Total number process 1 unchanged 1 thats all Im getting.
W
Linux users be like
Yet another set of reasons a newbie would be driven away from linux.
Good tutorial but if Linux expects to have any kind of user base growth this whole mess needs to be automated. There is zero chance a normal everyday Windows or Mac user is going to jump through these hoops. This would be their first indication that the whole Linux environment is overly complex and unwelcoming and broken from a usability standpoint.
I was told mint was user friendly. This is absolutely ridiculous
A bit too fast as an instructional device. Think as though one had never seen any of this before.
Doesn't work
Thank you SO MUCH!!!!! (Linux Mint 21.3 Totally VERIFIED!) You saved my LIFE!!! (I was LOST but now I'm FOUND! Thanks to your EXCELLENT instructions!) Thank You Jesus! God BLESS you! Keep up the GOOD work! #linuxmint #linuxmint21.3 #linux
it Says file not found:
I write this in powershell: CertUtil -hashfile .\lmde-5-cinnamon-32bit.iso SHA256
and it says NOT FOUND...
What's the reason?
The file iso is on my desktop.
Help me out please!
Have you found a solution?
Make sure the command prompt/PowerShell is pointing at the right directory (you can do this with the cd command)
just download it and use and antivirus like windows simple
I'm a noob but I have downloaded to desktop from several different servers. I keep getting:
CertUtil -hashfile .\linuxmint-21.3-cinnamon-64bit.iso SHA256
CertUtil: -hashfile command FAILED: 0x80070002 (WIN32: 2 ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)
CertUtil: The system cannot find the file specified.
CertUtil seems to be the issue but I can't find why.
