That's awesome Dan! I have found a preserve that is only 8.6 miles from my house that I am trying to get access to. I'm awaiting word back from them. I have great hopes, but only time will tell. Thanks again for letting me tag along for your wonderful adventure!
Loved it as always, my two favourite wildlife TH-camrs, to answer your question, 400mm everyday of the week, you can cover the 600mm range through to 800 with TC’s the 600mm can never do 400 2.8
Great video Dan and what a place Simon has there. Shame about the tawny’s but they are stunning birds and often overlooked for barns or SEO’s! As for the lens, if had the money myself would defo go for the 600 f4 for the reach, good luck with the conversation with the missus! 😂😂
Hi Dan just subscribed due to the fact I follow simon on his channel. I don't have a camera but I really love your wildlife photography and its great that you're dad enjoys quality time with you. Regards Cliff and family ❤
Happy New Year, Dan! What a wonderful team up with Simon Eardley. I’m really impressed by quality of the blinds and the set up with continuous lighting. I’m also blown away by the image quality that you have been able to consistently deliver on your channel! The sharpness and resolution of the images is second to none, and the colors are beautiful and vibrant without being oversaturated!
I’ve followed Simon for some time now and had the great pleasure of meeting him and his wife Dawn at the NEC show last year. What they have achieved at their new homestead is nothing short of stunning. Great shots of the sparrowhawk, Dan 👌🏻.
My best 2 Nikon guys meet up for what is a cracking video. Some stunning images, Ive a feeling Dan that you will be back again to Simons place along with Pops.
I’ve followed Simon for about 1 half now what a fantastic photographer. What a cracking set he has done, you took some stunning image keep. Where was pops this.look what pops has missed out
Great video. I've been looking forward to this one (cue Fig Rolls).🤣 Stunning portrait of the male Sparrow Hawk. That one alone was worth spending a day in the hide. By now you will have submitted the application for a second mortgage back to the bank so you can buy the 600 F4.👍
What a fantastic hide and a wonderful day spent birding couldn’t ask for more Simons done a brilliant job on the hide and Dan you shot some wonderful pictures fantastic video mate one to remember thank you Simon and Dan for sharing
Great video, looks a lovely place and hopefully when we are touring the area we can get a day in. One thing Simon is also good at is finding cracking perches for the birds🙂.
Amazing foties Dan. I especially liked the Jay with it's crest up and the sparrowhawk foties. If you have plans to take Dinky Doo to Arran please remember to get in touch with me and hopefully I'll have plenty of info for you. Say hello to pops for me. 😀😀😀😀😀
Brilliant vid mate. Great hide isn’t it, loved it myself. And that sparrowhawk, what a brilliant bird to come in. I hope you had a chance to use the Camera Perch Hide plate! 😊😊😉😉
Great Vid Dan and pics…as always! I have used both 400 and 600 Primes. For me, the 400 (often with 1.4 Extender) is best for (me) photography on the foot. Great IQ with flexibility of 400, 560 and 800 if needed. The 600 is fantastic where ‘reach’ is the primary objective, particularly if you are happy to use a Tripod or Monopod. Both are great, with a nice ‘overlap’ of Focal Lengths. I’m going for the 400 TC with Z9, but the 600 may have to follow at some point! Thanks for the advice on Lens Covers etc. Keep posting 👍
What an impressive setup! Lucky to own & use both - one with a Z9, the other with a Z8. Both have their advantages & disadvantages. For walkaround, 400TC, hides, 600TC. Keep up the good work.
I have so been looking forward to this video. Two amazing presenters together. When life sorts itself out for me, I’m definitely booking a session in that hide. Thanks guys for bringing something special every week.
Another great video dan thanks 👍. I've followed Simon for a few years now I collected one of my bean bags from him when he lived in brig, very local to where I used to live. A really nice guy even stuffed it for me as I was going away and wanted to use it straight away 😅
Enjoyable as ever. Older f lenses are worth looking at. I’ve been out shooting red squirrels in Llangefni with a 40 year old 400 2.8 on my z8 and the 600 FL\ED f4 works great on it too. And they are quite reasonable on MPB now. Lovely to see you two together.
Dan, great video as always. I started with the 400 f/2.8 TC but found myself constantly adding another TC or going into crop mode. So I traded it for the 600 f/4 with TC. I do miss that light gathering ability sometimes but really haven’t looked back.
Great video, I’ve been watching Simon build up his homestead & it does look fantastic. Regarding the lenses, if I were you I’d go back over your Lightroom catalog & review the focal lengths of ALL your images & if you see you’ve been shooting at the longer end with the TC engaged, then I’d go for the 600 f/4 TC lens. I watch your videos as well Dan & also feel there have been times you could have done with just that little bit more of reach. Steve Perry has just done a really good in depth video on his TH-cam channel about the two Nikon super telephoto lenses ( 600mm f/4 TC & the 400mm f/2.8 TC ) where he answers that question, which one would I get more advantage from & it’s really worth a look. As I said great video & good to see two of my favourite wildlife photographers in the same video. 👍👍
Hello Dan & Simon, Sorry I am a bit late watching your video. But what a treat to see more amazing image. Love the tips too. I was thinking it was not too many years age when shooting image over 800iso we used to bin, but now..... Long lenses have never been cheap. I have alway wanted a 600mm, but got a 500mm pf before the Z system now I have the 600mm f5.6 and thats as far as I will go. Just love the light on these images, they are just so good. Thak to Simon for the use of his hide and tips. Thank you for all your work too. One last thing rember to bye your wife something nice just before the delivery comes? Nice new black box with 600mm on it.
Great vlog Dan. Top bloke Simon. I've been subscribed to his channel for some years now. Though I've never met him He always replies to my comments. In a way that makes your feel,as if you're one of his mates 👍Ps Dan, I met your dad up at the long eared owls in the snow on Wednesday. We had a chat (nice fella). Tell him, I stayed looking out for owls till 4pm. And a only had one distance glimpse. So I went again Thursday and met Mike Phelps (I'm starting to feel a bit star stuck 😂) Anyhow had no joy again. 😩. Hopefully one day I'll bump into you to Dan . Best regards Mick👍
Great video Dan thank you. With regards to your lens question, I think I would probably go with a 400f2.8. I already have a 400f5.6 (canon) that with a 1.4x gives me sharp images at f8. The light transmission however is a problem and I quite often find myself at high ISO’s. The R6mk2 is fantastic in low light but every now and then I can’t help thinking that the 2.8 would be perfect. The £10k plus price tag makes it a bit of a lottery dream at the moment though 😂
I ha d a similar decision to make whether to buy the 400 or 600 . And had some advice from a wildlife photographer to go back through your photographs and see how many were taken at 600 and how many were taken at 400 nearly all of mine were taken at 600 that’s the lens I went for. Never regretted it.
Amazing shots from two true photographic artists, I was lucky today with the Sparrowhawk in my garden fancying dinner on the Blue tits I'm feeding, but my shot was a mile away from the shot you took. Fantastic as always,
600mm f/4 works really well with the external 1.4 tc, engage the internal tc as well and you have 1178mm I would not want to crop on top of that as that already is a very marginal field of view
I’m using Z9 & Z600mm f/4S TC currently and not liking them as much as my Canon counterparts. Not the lens’s fault but I guess more due to Z9’s AF performance. Not as responsive and accurate as my R1 & R5ii. 😢
Great to see my two favourite presenters together. Stunning work, well done.
That's awesome Dan! I have found a preserve that is only 8.6 miles from my house that I am trying to get access to. I'm awaiting word back from them. I have great hopes, but only time will tell. Thanks again for letting me tag along for your wonderful adventure!
I don’t believe it both my favourite wildlife photography tubers in the same place
great video and great shots

Great video Dan. I had a great session at Simon’s hide. Great set up with a variety of photo opportunities.

Nice to see you both sharing your talents 👍👌👌
Another fantastic video well done
Great video, looks a lovely place and hopefully when we are touring the area we can get a day in. One thing Simon is also good at is finding cracking perches for the birds🙂.
Brilliant video yes I follow Simon he’s done brilliantly with hide and wildlife area fantastic birds 👍🏻👍🏻
Definitely the 600 👍🏻👍🏻

Awesome 👌 Sparrow Hawk was stunning 👍
My two favourite presenters, cant wait :)
Dan is an awesome bloke and briefly met Simon at the rutland bird show a genuine great chappie
Brilliant vid mate. Great hide isn’t it, loved it myself. And that sparrowhawk, what a brilliant bird to come in. I hope you had a chance to use the Camera Perch Hide plate! 😊😊😉😉
Brilliant video mate.
Great video 2 wildlife photographers at the top of their game, hope you got offered a fig roll. Well done
Hi Dan, enjoyed the video the answer to your dilemma might be keep the 400 and buy the 600 pf lens. It's light and sharp and reasonably priced !!!
Great Vid Dan and pics…as always!

Hey Dan, I find anything under 500mm just not enough reach, so for me it would be the 600mm f4.
P.S The full beard looks great👍💯📸

600 hands down m8
Great video ........serious lens envy would have to be the 600 mm love the images with close up detail.
Two of my three favourite TH-camrs. Pity you couldn't get Mike Lane there! Thanks, guys.

Evening Gentlemen. Hope you are all well. You stay wrapped up pops us old timers need to be kept warm.
Try and convince Pops - he needs the 600f4 and you will be able to share it!
Regarding the choice of the 600mm or the 400mm with the TC’s just get both. I did. Well it was a compromise. I got the 180-600mm for Christmas.
Cracking video Dan , i would stick with the 400 more practical
What camera are you using?
Get Pops to buy you both of them.
I ha d a similar decision to make whether to buy the 400 or 600 . And had some advice from a wildlife photographer to go back through your photographs and see how many were taken at 600 and how many were taken at 400 nearly all of mine were taken at 600 that’s the lens I went for. 400mm F2.8. For Sports like Football and lawn hockey and 600mm f4 for birding
Amazing shots from two true photographic artists, I was lucky today with the Sparrowhawk in my garden fancying dinner on the Blue tits I'm feeding, but my shot was a mile away from the shot you took. Fantastic as always,
You will reach the point where you will simply accept that you need both lenses :)
Where the hell was Pops?
600mm f/4 works really well with the external 1.4 tc, engage the internal tc as well and you have 1178mm
I would not want to crop on top of that as that already is a very marginal field of view
Seem to be having broken audio
I had to restart it was so annoying, sorted it out though
Music if working fine
I’m using Z9 & Z600mm f/4S TC currently and not liking them as much as my Canon counterparts. Not the lens’s fault but I guess more due to Z9’s AF performance. Not as responsive and accurate as my R1 & R5ii. 😢
600mm mate
that's y ive bought the 200-800 its all ur fault im hooked on wildlife now urs and steves fault lol
