Excellent video. Closeups showed the detail needed to understand what was needed to be done. These old hands had a little difficulty squeezing the clips on the face plate. Another video suggested writing the date and mileage on the side of the filter. I did but then realized that was probably helpful only if I was going to inspect the filter. I put information in my calendar with a one year reminder.
All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor below the filter will have downward air flow direction. Otherwise the blower would be full of dirt and debris.
How many Air Filters are in the Outback, just the main engine one and this cabin filter, right? Valvoline Oil Change place wanted over $50.00 for an air filter for my daughter (I was not with her) so trying to figure out what filter they were talking about. I don't see an engine nor cabin filter that costs anywhere near that much.
There is an engine air filter and a cabin air filter. Service centers charge a tremendous amount to change air filters. You could check them both to see if they are dirty but it wouldn't hurt to just replace both. If you or a friend can replace them, it doesn't cost much. I have a video on changing the engine air filter here: th-cam.com/video/FFtMqPuzaMM/w-d-xo.html
It should be the same for the Wilderness. I have a video on replacing the engine air filter on a Forester. I'm guessing the procedure is nearly identical on the Outback: th-cam.com/video/h8qrfPhbWS8/w-d-xo.html If the engine looks similar, it should be relevant.
As a female I change mine all the time. I follow the videos just like anyone else. In my opinion schools should have mandatory automotive classes for female students. And dads and moms...teach your daughters!!!!
The snap-in filter cover in this video is installed inside out. Apparently, it still does latch in place if installed that way.
Good catch! I'm going to pin this comment so others can avoid this same mistake.
I noticed that too! Also: the up label on the old filter does not refer to airflow direction, but to specify orientation of the filter instead.
This is how I learned I have a 12v outlet in the glove box, lol. Thanks for the video!
Absolutely flawless video. Changed my filter in less than 3 minutes. Thank you
Easy to understand. Good visual and description as you go. Very helpful. Thank-you for making this video.

Thanks, this was a great walkthrough.
Also worked for 22 Outback. Couldn’t find any videos on it.
Awesome video. I watched once and was able to go out and change mine without any difficult! Thanks.

In other words, the blower is pulling air through the filter and pushing it into the cabin, yes?
Thanks… but might it be showing just what way the air is flowing from, inside car to out through vents?
Why with the replacement air filter do you have the airflow going down versus the factory air filter the air flows going up
Thanks for this video! You did great one-handed.
Thank you.. glove door is a little tough
totally agree! I have tried twice now with breaks in between and still can't get it to release!
Yay! I have a 2020, but I think it's the same steps from what I've read

Just an FYI, but you installed the cabin air filter door backwards. Otherwise great video!
Got it done-Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I had to change out my wife’s this morning.
Great video.. Would this be the same for the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness? Also would you know how to change the engine filter also?

@@Rickmakes Thanks for your reply. Have a great weekend.
Thank you.
My 2021 Outback does not have the button in the glove box. So I guess I will have to take it to the professional 😢
Which button?
Love when they charge my girlfriend 20 dollars to perform this.
In my area, they would like to charged me $60. I denied.

@@ddr5ecc768tried to charge me $60 as well, what are they smoking???
I just paid $89 at Subaru to replace one. Never again!
It's such a scam.
