Steps to Perfecting your VR Settings in X-Plane 11

- In this video, I am going to go over how I get my settings in X-Plane 11 VR, just right. It is tricky to accomplish and I want to show you how I go through the process. Also make sure you stick around to the end because I show a few great plugins that I use (OVR Settings, Fly with Lua and VMI Twick). They have really made a big impact on sim performance and visuals.
For those of you that want to get more than great settings, I have included a link below for Rod Machado's books and training. His training has been great for me, as it is not dry like some of the books you find out there on the subject. Rod also has a ton of experience and was the voice from when you were learning to fly in Microsoft FSX. After this setting tuned up for VR what is your FPS when not on VR? This info can be a good reference for others to set things outside VR first that will also be good to VR with little tweaks. :)

I have a question, after setting the required parameters in the OVR Settins plugin, can this window be closed so that it is not visible in the cockpit?
Are you able to use a joystick or game controller instead of tge hand controllers with xp plane 11 vr?
I am able to play with an extreme 3d pro joystick currently, works in VR as well

i have a gtx 1060 gb and 16gb ram i7 7700 and i was wondering if my system will be good enough for the vr headset.At high settings in 1080p i get avg 665fps ,i hope this will be enough but i know with some tweaking it should work fine,Great video anyhow.
Your video looks really nice! So smooth! I wonder how have you captured it? What tools did you use?
I use OBS. Works great.
VR Flight World I use OBS too with OpenVR input plugin, but the resulting video is lagging a lot for me...
Not sure if this will help but I use Oculus Mirror to record my screen. I also have my OBS settings so it uses my graphics card more then my CPU. Cant remember what the setting is called. Not at my computer at this moment. Is your sim running smooth at a high frame rate. I record mine at 60 fps.
@@VRFlightWorld My sim running at 45 fps in VR which looks good enough. But when I'm capturing it with OBS, the video is not smooth at all. It's like 5 fps. But I have a completely different setup though: I have a Windows Mixed Reality headset. Maybe this is the reason :)
I would try a few experiments. Try recording without the openVR if possible. I would also definitely play with the OBS settings. Make sure you don't have a crazy high bit rate. You could also try lowering your recording FPS to 30.
What gpu did you use and did you overclock it? I have a 2060 super and I'm hoping it will run this smooth. Also, will a 2060S run mfs2020 in vr.
Quick question, I have xplane 11 and oculus rift 2 and for some reason the check box to enable vr is grayed out. Any idea why?
hi, thanks for the video, i have some Qs:
1- while using ingame AA do we need to turn off steamvr AA/SS ?
2- I use the JarA330, but cant fix the pilot position as it should be and have to go through a long process back n forth to be aligned (menu reset view doesn't work well), is there a way to assign that specific pilot seat position with a key like we can do it in non-vr version via num-pad ?
3- If using Vive(steamvr), are similar plugins available ?

Hey. So it is great timing for question number 2. I am releasing a video on Tuesday about this. Their is a plugin that works great to fix this. It is VR Tools. I release that video on next Tuesday at 08:30 PST.
So I would have to do some experiments with AA/SS with Steam VR. Technically I run mine in the Oculus mode. But I should do some experimenting for the Steam VR users. I would probably lean toward the in game AA/SS. But I would have to do some experimenting to test this out. Also with the last question, I would have to do some research. I'll look into this. If I find something that replaces OVR settings then I'll put it as a reply to your comment. Sorry I can't be more helpful on the two questions.

Is there a way to be in the plane at start-up instead of being in the (hanger) settings when using VR?
That was a great and to the point with the video, Dan! How's your experience with Vulkan API update? Have you seen any improvements with the VR performance? Austin Mayer (Founder of Laminar Research) explained that one of the main reasons for Vulkan was to improve the VR performance.
At first I was disappointed, as I was getting the same, if not worse results. After playing with it for a bit, I realized the my CPU was causing me the issues. So I gave it a test and found that it wasn't as stable as I had thought. Once I fixed this, the Vulkan update made a big difference. I was then running ORBX TrueEarth Scenery in London on High. Which is what you see in the video.

had too low of voltage for the overclock that I had set. So it was getting errors. Turned up the voltage a bit. Used OCCT to do the test. Found no errors after doing a few adjustments to the voltage.

For some reason FPS VR doesn't want to run in xplane 11, that sure would be helpful right now because I deleted MSI afterburner after it was causing issues in a different game.
Run X Plane 11 vr on my i5 laptop 16gb ram with 1050ti 4gb seems to run it ok ,I use quest 2 with usb cable
I got a rift s, gtx 1080 and 8700k OC up to 4.7 but i still get stuttering flying on london. My only difference is that i installed xEurope...I can fly it only with 30fps locked on OVR
Have you tried with vulkan turned on?
@@VRFlightWorld Yes, actually with cessna i still can mantain 40fps, i cannot with zibo. However i my performance are better than OpenGL version :)

Ya. If I were to add a different aircraft i might have to lower things. But i am running the ORBX TrueEarth scenery for Great Britain. I am currently running the newest nvidia studio driver. Switched to that driver because I was having trouble with editing software.
How can I compress a route time then I use VR?
Is it possible for you to include subtitles in the movie? I would like to use a translator. Thank you ;-)

Ya I can appreciate that. It can be a lot of work to do it this way. Wouldn't be too bad if the sim restarted instantly but mine is definitely not instant.
You can just turn down all the graphical settings to the lowest, make sure Vulkan is checked, then play around with the settings from there as needed.
I hope this works with my 2070 and quest 2.
Index and a 2080 super works but it really sucks. They really need to optimize the damn game.
