I watched the whole series. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and post it. I'm restoring a M15000 and a Series 15 Warn winch. Its interesting to see how you tackled some of the same issues I had. Sucks you had to buy a new motor.
Yeah... the motor really threw me off. I still have it. At some point I'll try to figure it out. Right now I'm just glad it's done. Hope it was helpful. Thanks for watching.
I’m doing mine now.. struggling a little with operation. It rattles and acts like something is out of order. I’m sure it has to do with setting up the brake system. I basically put the new brake in the spool and then let the coupler set the depth of it... but something isn’t working correctly.. Warn has been impossible to get ahold of lately- extreme long phone waits..
Yeah. Be careful with the brake. I was able to get a hold of Warn a while ago via email. They sent me the diagram of the pre-set required for the brake tension. Its finicky. Its also the reason Warn only sells the full brake assembly (you can't buy shoes, etc). The brake pre-tension is roughly 1/4 turn of the brake spring. Good luck!
Do you happen to have the part number for the new short harness? I have a buddy that needs to do this to his 9.5ti, and having an issue finding the correct part number for the new short harness.
The problem on the old motor ist the new color between motor tube/housing and brushes cage/housing, you need ground contact on 2 brushes but with the new color is this not possible
Good point. I had to ask Warn how to do it. It's one of the reasons they sell the brake assembly as a full piece. Essentially, when the brake shoes are aligned around the shaft, you have to preload the spring about 90 deg. While holding it like that, the assembly gets pushed into the drum. It was a PITA.
I have a dead 9.5ti I'd like to rebuild. I've watched the entire video series several times, great work, very helpful! Is it possible to keep the brake assembly in one piece while taking the winch apart for a rebuild?
I think the brake assembly is different depending on the age of the winch. The brake is inside the drum, so if you keep it in the drum, and don't remove the shift, you should be able to take the bridge and left, right sides off. Good luck!
I have this winch on my 2003 jeep rubicon tj. Mine is gray. I have heard they are great winches. I replaced cabel with a red 23000lb To yo synthetic 100 ft cabel. What is your ex0erince with this winch
Dear i need to know about the current rating of these solenoid. Is it 200 amperes for forward and 200 amperes for reverse or these 4 solenoids are in series with 400 amp rating. I have 9.5ti warn which have 4 solenoids with 100 amperes rating each.
What grease did you use on the internal gearing? I have the warn 9.5 CTI which is almost the same. New it's 1,800$ I just replaced the freespool gear and cover sold as 1 unit for 165$.
They're not too finicky about grease. I've used marine "red and tacky" stuff as well as grey moly grease. The red stuff is what I found in a 40yr old warn I just bought. If you do any water, that's the way to go. Just remember that these winches should not be forgotten about on the bumper. Most people treat them as disposable, but they should go through a maintenance cycle like any other machine. Good luck!
@@comfort_in_discomfort I just looked up on warn they recommend Aeroshell 64..a moly based grease...but thanks...you did help me by showing which direction the ring gear goes in the end cap.
Do you know this 9.5ti or 9.5cti warn winch is water resistant? If the car gets flooded through the electric box, will this winch break down? I am thinking of buying a used 9.5cti-s.
No winch is fully water proof. However, they will all work if they are wet as long as maintenance is done. If you are planning on getting a winch wet, you can do some preparation with dialectic grease on the contacts. Ultimately they are all rated for hard use, but require maintenance after. Why not consider a winch that has a separate solenoid box? You can mount the box up higher where it can stay a bit more dry.
Good question. Let's see: Genuine warn parts (seals, 4 solenoids, sticker) = $120 roughly Local fasteners (for the cover) = $15 Ebay for a used winch controller =$50 Paint (I already had it but let's say I bought it) =$20 So that's about $205 in parts. The motor was an Ebay purchase. It cost roughly $150. So all told around $350-400 +/- Was it worth it? I'm not sure. It took a while, especially the cleaning and sandblasting. But it was enjoyable.
@@comfort_in_discomfort I feel it’s worth it... you can still find some old new 9500ti in stock I was looking last night and they are 1300 so yes it is it’s a good build if you enjoyed it
@@crider46 yeah. There are new cheap units like Badlands, for around $4-500. But it's not a Warn. So it's a trade off. This one is going to go on my Jeep.

Just awesome - I have one that I wanted to tinker with - I just received the damn bible on this thing - no excuses now.
Wow
Definatly show us what happened and why to the motor pls

Also check that your forward/reverse lever is tight. Mine made a noise because it wandered to a "between settings" position.

By short harness, you mean the one that connects the solenoids to the socket plug? I purchased mine on ebay. I used Warn 86688 as the part number.
The problem on the old motor ist the new color between motor tube/housing and brushes cage/housing, you need ground contact on 2 brushes but with the new color is this not possible
I never thought about ground contact on brushes...
How did you set the brake and install it? You didnt film the installation of the break

It's an excellent winch. Mine is an older version that's not as easy to service. But I have zero issues and also upgraded the cable to synthetic line.

The warn winch solenoids are rated at 250A continuous and 480A peak. Two are used for forward, two for reverse. Hope that helps!
But my system trips each time when the current exceeds 200 Amp
@Struggling_Hard461 You may have a motor winding issue, or a different ground problem. Good luck!
