  • Graham from Diode Press reached out: he needed a better design for making his mezzotint prints.
We struck a deal: we'd machine his new arm adapter and he would make a Saunders Machine Works print!

Love it John! It's fun to think about using all this cutting edge technology/CAD/CAM to create a tool for a print process from the 1640's!

When using the mirror command you will see there are 3 options listed for pattern type. Pattern faces, pattern bodies, and pattern features. The default is pattern faces and that is why you had to select the cylindrical face and the bottom face of the counterbore. If you choose pattern features instead, you can then pick the feature out of the browser. Any face belonging to that feature will be included in the mirror operation.
Is there a reason you like to draw holes using sketch geometry instead of using the hole command to just place the holes? I think that method would be faster for you. You could do the counterbores and the thru hole at the same time. There are some nice tools for centering holes on faces when you use the hole command as well.

Right click tree top (file name), create new component. If you activate that component before sketching, all sketches, workplanes, etc will be organized within that component. Helps a lot for larger assemblies :)

+NYC CNC If there's anything else in fusion I can help you with, I'm a tweet away @sambirchenough

+Sam Birchenough: One can also sketch and create the component, but instead of using "Cut" or "Join" in the menu, use the New Body or New Component. But, if you want the two objects to be locked together, you would still need to assemble them.

    Great video!
I have been using Fusion 360 for a while now and components are still a bit of a mystery.Someone explained them as a folder but more...still working on the more.

+Colin Smith I was reading down through the comments to see if there was any mention of the component / body issue. I'm familiar with Inventor, Solidworks, Solid Edge etc and can't understand why Fusion takes this odd approach. I struggle with converting bodies to components and there is very little help or documentation to explain what's going on. What was the big idea? This must cause a lot of confusion and frustration to users of F360.

Some information on Components and Bodies in Fusion.
Depending on who I talk to I hear positive and negative reviews on the approach that Fusion takes with components.

Just trying to learn Fusion 360 myself. I used to get along in AutoCad (light). Not any kind of expert, but I could assemble a drawing. Unfortunately, AutoDesk priced me out of that and eventually my version got so old it was unsupported. I think they are on the right path licensing Fusion 360 free to students, start-ups and "enthusiasts" (hobbyists). Once you start making serious money with the product, the price becomes less important in the general budget.
I'm getting a lot from your F360 tutorials, but you frequently emphasize how quickly you can do things, which can make them a bit hard to follow. Please; a bit slower (and detailed) for those of us who are just learning.

Hello! I was wondering where did you get the wedge shape panel ? I currently trying to make my own mezzotint rocker and I was wondering if you can share me some info about the dimensions of the actual tool. Nice work!

+NYC CNC On my stationary I have unlimited volume - no problem, but on my laptop with built in speakers, other videos are ok, but I had to have full volume in youtube, and in the operating system - and still had some trouble hearing what you're saying. If I compare to eevblog, oxtools, keith fenner, vintage machinery etc you are abit on the low side. Thanks!
