    Context like this is what I've needed to help me understand trans issues and why the portrayal of these characters can be transphonic, even if it wasn't intentional.
    It also makes me feel pretty bad as a nonbinary person myself that I've repeated some of that same harmful rethoric and behaviors that I myself am at least partly the victim of. But now that I know better I'll know to think twice before I say something that favors cissexist propaganda.

      I'm glad that this video helped to highlight some issues that you hadn't considered before! And it's okay, we can't know everything. As an AFAB nonbinary person, I can research the experience of transfeminine people as much as I like, but I will never experience transmisogyny. We are constantly learning and growing!

    I liked the video, I found it quite informative, although I recognize that I am ignorant and harbor prejudices on this topic. I think I still need to tread a good path to "evolve" as a person. Anyway, it's interesting to note that it was Rin and Erica who stood out for me in the game. In Rin's case, apart from her angelic personality (a profile in severe danger of extinction), I understand that her presence and subsequent interaction with the character provided the most moving and emotional moments. In Erica's case, I admired her friendly, honest and charismatic demeanor. In addition, she knows how to be authentic, has empathy and is insightful about what happens (I like the comments she makes). I wish I had had a close friend with that profile in my youth.
    A seemingly harmless scene marked me when the group was united and Vincent had said that Rin had declared herself to him: Erica called Tobi to talk alone for a moment because she wanted to give the three men privacy - with greater familiarity together - to talk without the more impulsive and immature (and perhaps predictable) interference of the prospective boyfriend who is younger and might have a narrower view of relationships in that context. This demonstrates tact and empathy on Erica's part.
    Although I regret the fact that the game did not approach and portray the transgender universe in a better and healthier way, I suppose that the fact that the game was "shorter" may have contributed to the company opting for a more objective and "familiar" plot involving the more conventional "public opinion" (even if it is degrading and harmful in certain respects). Truth be told, I think the universe could even be explored as an anime for a more mature audience and the interaction with the three protagonists could evolve in a deeper way IF there was more time available. By summarizing or rushing a plot that could easily be extended for the benefit of the game itself, the player will inevitably have less chance of becoming familiar with that universe while it blossoms in a more "serious" and proper way.
    I don't want to be devil's advocate, but when I first completed the game, I had the strange impression that I had played a dlc and not a full game. Perhaps this impression is fueled by the fact that I liked the game's proposal and having met Persona 5 Royal months ago, but when I think that the story has a limited time to be told and very few scenarios are explorable (if it weren't for the cutscenes, the bar, the stopping points between the nightmares and the 3D puzzle moments would be the only "stages" that could be visited), I believe that "Full Body" could be twice as tall, for example. That way, the game could develop the story more calmly - bringing more deep elements and enriching situations - and even introduce Rin more often into the plot. By the way, although I know that fiction sets a precedent for any fertile imagination, I have to admit that I didn't like seeing Rin associated with extraterrestrials. I think this origin made the story kind of ridiculous (or harder to be believable on a serious level even because the design and the colours of the creatures seems childish) and didn't make for a more satisfying ending in my opinion. I also remember your remarks present in the video.
    In any case, it is always interesting to be able to have access to better information on subjects that are usually "marginalized", ignored or even avoided. Your video was very well produced.

    More people need to see this! Lindsay Ellis also has an overview of how media perpetuates transphobia, but I see this video as an upgrade version as it specifically targets gamer audience. And oh boy do I wish gamers can be more aware of transgender media literacy

      Thank you so much! I get a lot of comments from gamers specifically on this video coming to bat for Atlus and blaming a lot of the issues on translations and cultural differences, but that doesn't mean that a western audience can't still learn things and also absorb (intentional or unintentional) harmful ideas about trans people through games made outside of the US

    I think that Peterson's respectable surface image and calm tone is very good at instigating dangerous beliefs and anger which is unaided by uneducated stance on most of the subjects he talks about such as trans issues.

    My only issue is Naoto calls herself a woman at the end of her Social Link, not a man

    • @GameAssist
      @GameAssist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, naoto is an interesting one - her story could have so easily been written as a transmasculine one, but atlus took a very different route. i wonder if they would change anything nowadays if they wrote a character like naoto into persona 6? - daz

    uhh Naoto and Kanji's stories aren't about LGBT... Kanji is just about masculinity and Naoto's is about being discriminated against in a male dominated job. Also idk I don't think atlus are that hateful, they quite literally just don't know much about trans people due to Japan's culture and I don't think you can necessarily blame them, now it doesn't make it ok ofc, however it should be said that understanding needs to happen a little bit more often when discussing atlus and this subject matter, I don't think atlus are malicious people, all I see them on that topic is that they are very ignorant of what there even making jokes about and probably see it as harmless.
