Hey thanks, I enjoyed that. A genuine adventure, no frills, just beautiful trails and a calm, practical approach to each challenge. Well done mate. Refreshingly authentic.
Amazing ride, but scary , braking down out in the forest, glad it all worked out well in the end, I’ve got the same bike but in stock version, scary prices on the fuel pump replacement, I hope mine is alright! Cheers from Geelong! ❤️🦘🦘🦘🇦🇺
One good thing about those tracks is they are fairly short and end up back on a main road. There's always other bikes and 4wd's around too. I rode mine stock for a long time but got bored during lockdowns and started modifying it. Great bike!
@@OzADVRider I took the road tyres off, and fitted Nobby tyres, intention of some dirt trail riding but mostly just ride it to work , no time for bush rides, and the Nobby have done over 6,000 klms, which is amazing I thought, yes they’re pretty much bullet proof bikes, mines a 2008 model.
I would still be looking at replacing the high pressure filter or at least ultrasounding it. Gen 1 dl650 has the same style of fuel pump assy as my sv1000s. I did what you have just done and 1000 ks later was up for a new pump. Look carefully at the parts diagram online and you will see the high pressure filter. It may be included as the complete housing.
Yes, still a bit worried about the HP filter. I've replaced pump, regulator and strainer and it's running great. Suzuki sells HP filter and regulator as one unit, I may replace it still.
Good ride, riding can fix most of those "got stuff going on" moments...If I was more organised I would think about packing my mocha pot, a brew by the creek seems like a good idea...the day I did Bannermans, found some tracks off/around Old Binks Track..check your maps, plenty down that way.
Thanks mate! I much prefer my trackside coffee rather than a cafe. I've done some exploring around Binks track, lots to choose from. Colbrook reservoir is really nice. There was some snow in wombat today, we're heading there tomorrow, hopefully not too slushy.
@@OzADVRider Just got in from work to watch the remainder of the video, really appreciate the "shout-out" .... got up to your coffee break before I had to pretend to do some work.👍
Tracks look pretty good but the ruts are a pain. So, how are you finding the front tyre? What are you mating it with (as in the rear) 😂 Hoping you have the fuel pump sorted.
Something was wrong with it to stop in the 1st place. Not sure if it would of ran if I assembled it correctly on the track. I've now replaced the pump, strainer and regulator and it's running great.
It must be the high pressure filter because i see there was no much fuel. I have the same bike same year and i live with the fuel pump problem the last 4 years. I have uninstalled and get the fuel pump to pieces about 8 times these 4 years. Usually i clean the high pressure filter with carburator sprey and blow air from the other side and replace or clean the strainer. The bike is getting strong and wild then for the next 6-12 months and as long as i keep the tank topped up with fuel before the 3rd bar ends. If once i dont top up before then (at around 300-330 klm) then the acceleration decreases rapidly and cant go over 6000 rpm or 5000 sometimes and top speed hardly 100-110 klm/h. For some reason it seems that the fuel pump isnt happy when is not swimming in the fuel. Maybe its my fault because for many years i used to let it go till the last bar before i put fuel. Is your problem gone now with the new motor inside? How is the bike going with half empty or nearly empty tank?
Since fitting a new pump, strainer, regulator and cleaning the HP filter the bike runs great no matter how much fuel is in the tank. It is running rich however and using more fuel. I need to try and reset/ re-tune the ecu. Not sure what is happening with your bike. It really shouldn't matter how full your tank is.
@@OzADVRiderI cant explain it either maybe loses some pressure when gets out of the fuel probably because of some oring that doesnt seal 100% and needs replacement?I dont know,They seem ok though. Also sometimes even when i can reach 190 klm/h it is making some hiccups during acceleration in high revs until i reach this speed. The fuel mid consumption is always normal near 4,2 l/100 klm all the years.
Hi, the front end is off a Yamaha WR450F. I have a video playlist of the swap here Front end swap: th-cam.com/play/PLZuMNmWRcxqg0p9Rl8ibVcb3iMpKsEGPR.html
Yep. While this bike has been very reliable, I have no interest in replacing it with a more modern bike. I have considered fitting carbys to the vstrom, bit beyond my skill set though.
That’s adventure riding at its finest

Glad you enjoyed it!
Captain Andy to the rescue!!! Hope the fix wasn't too much of a hassle... after you found those missing parts too!
Apart from having to go searching for the missing link it wasn't too hard (or expensive) to fix.
Ran great today.
Another great video thanks Oz ! And fantastic to hear your bike running again at the end !
Thanks!
Bike is now running great!
Frankenstrom is alive again!!! Good to have mates with trailers :-) Regards from the Flinders Ranges 😊
Thanks mate!
Have a great trip!
Great vid so rough when the bikes breakdown especially if your flying solo, well done on the diagnosis glad to see it up and running again 😎👍
Cheers mate! Don't think I've ever broke down like that before.
Lucky it was all down hill so I could get out and have good friends willing to help.
Great video as always mate.
Thanks Santos!

Just ordered my spare pump the other day. Good wake up call. Cheers Andy.
Thanks again Andy.
Bike seems to run much better with the new pump.
Good video, unfortunate but good video mate.
Thanks mate!
I was having a great ride until my bike died.
Went back today, it was super slippery. Couple of spills but my bike went great.
“I’m entering Wombat State Park”
(Cue the Wombat)
Still haven't seen a wombat there!
It was a Wallaby that identified as a Wombat.
@rickreasoner8664 Maybe. Plenty of wallabies about.
I know it’s not an ideal situation but I must say I was laughing slightly as you were rolling down the hill. Was thinking “Gravity Run”. 😂😂😂
It was interesting rolling as fast as possible on a slippery track.

I like the dual venture more than expected and it works well with the rear motoz adventure
Interesting. So was the fuel pump the problem? If you had assembled correctly, would you have been on way again? Nice Video.

An argument for carburetors and old tank bikes..
