    Love varigated threads and are ideal for hand quilting when you don't know which colour to use when you have different coloured fabrics. Love the video.

    That is beautiful thread- I would be too afraid to use it, but it would be such a shame not to, and what wonderful books to own. Perhaps you could use the thread in a piece of jewelry maybe a butterfly or moth or even a bee and include some beadwork, something you can wear that can become a family heirloom one day. Whatever you decide it will be beautiful I know.x

    The thread and the books are all amazing! I looked the books on the links you provided.
    In my humble opinion, to do justice to such a special thread, I think a Faberge style egg would enhance the luxury and extravagance of the 24ct gold.

    The thread looks beautiful. But oh my it was the books that fascinated me, what precious things to own. As you were flicking through I caught sight of what I think are Charles Rennie Mackintosh style roses. I think they'd look amazing using your thread. But whatever you choose will be beautiful.

    Hi Sarah, I think it is wonderful you plan on using the gold thread! My heart sang when you said you are going to use it. It’s too beautiful to leave it in a box as a skein and whatever you do with it will be beautiful too. I think the earlier suggestion of a brooch is great, wearable work, get it out there in the sun. Looking forward to seeing what you do. Thank you for your wonderful work.

    When I saw the cover of the Dillmont book I knew I had it! ~ except the flowers are magenta and leaves an olive green ~ and it’s all in German! I also have the 2nd Series ( Bibliothek D.M.C. Vorlagen fur Strickereien). I thought I had the little chubby one, but mine says, “EMBROIDERY or The Craft Of The Needle,” by W.G. Paulson Townsend of the Royal School of Art-Needlework and Government Examiner for Art 1899. Somehow, they seem very similar. I also just found a darling little volume: Teach Yourself EMBROIDERY, by Mary Thomas, London 1938, 1962. Bought these just after marrying in 1973 and have had limited time for embroidery ~ mostly have done silk ribbon, for its relatively fast and spectacular results. As to your 24K thread, it should be a subject of your eye that you really love. If it were my choice it would be a beetle or perhaps a dragonfly. BTW, perhaps you could suggest a place to donate my needlework books after, well, you know ~ I AM 76 y.o.💁🏼‍♀️

    I have an undying admiration for Thérèse de Dillmont! She was fantastically knowledgeable about any kind of needle art. It’s a shame that she died so young.
    Would this thread be suitable for a small piece of Or Nué? I have always found this technique very attractive.
    Maybe a sun and moon scene on dark fabric? DMC have a few free patterns on their website that are very pretty.
    Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing what you will come up with… 🌞

    Really interesting. I have just spent 2 hours leafing through the Encyclopedia of Needlework. It's fascinating. I've been collecting vintage French linens with their gorgeous embroidered monograms and esquisite little darns. They were taught needlework in school. I think an embroidered bee would be gorgeous with your gold thread

      @@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Funny. We had a sewing test in high school. Small piece of cotton and 2 lengths of thread to do various techniques. I liked it, finished it and my friend was struggling. Her cotton was dirty, sweaty, thread grubby; I did it for her best I could and she got a HIGHER mark than me lol

    • @looloo4029
      @looloo4029 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MoMaryR that may well have been your friend’s finest moment at high school! The teacher might have given her a higher mark than you received for your sewn piece because she held out little hope of your friend handing in a beautiful piece of stitching and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sewing sample. By contrast, the teacher most likely knew that you were a talented sewist and maybe expected perfection from you!
